Challenge: Move existing buildings and taxiways in the midst of an active airport. Solution: Design an 11,245 ft. long by 200 ft. wide carrier runway and parallel taxiways to meet FAA Airplane Design Group VI standards . Because the runway is in the middle of an active airport, construction staging is heavily influenced by aircraft ground operations. Existing utility systems remain operational 24/7 until new utilities are brought online.

New O'Hare Int'l Airport Centralized De-Icing Facility and Control Tower

Challenge: Design a fully automatic, advisory system to reduce the number and severity of runway incursions and prevent runway accidents while not interfering with airport operations. Solution: Initially installed in 2008, the deteriorated infrastructure required a complete replacement and upgrade. Our team was able to successfully integrate the latest design and construction standards within the operational constraints of the nation's 4th busiest airport without disrupting service.

Challenge: Centralize and improve efficiency of de-icing operations and stormwater management. Solution: A new centralized facility that eliminates secondary de-icing for planes while improving gate utilization, terminal capacity, runway safety and airfield operations. The control tower features an observation deck and 9 console stations for de-icing operations.
