Logos

Message: use this app for a new way to start and organize your fitness life.Description:Logos for a fitness app. The app contains reci-pes, tips, workouts, schedules, and reminders as well as a workout community to keep in touch with.Programs used: Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illus-tratorDate: February 19, 2015Course # & Section: Comm 130, Section 2Instructor name: Brother KerrObjective:•Create three completely different, original lo-gos to fit a company or personal image that will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs.•Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No Illustrator pre-fabricated flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or live-tracing. You may use an image or drawing as a guide to trace it with the pen/pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)Process:I used Adobe Illustrator to create these logos. I used shape and color and over lapped them to create pictures and used the text tool to write out my words. I then changed the size of my text and the color and font to create a well designed logo for my company.

BrochureMessage: Inform my audience about how I started my fitness journey and what they can do to eat and exercise better in order to start a new life for them-selves.Description:An inspirational montage made by the blending of two or more images, and the use of typography.Programs used: Adobe Indesign and PhotoshopDate: March 28,, 2015Course # & Section: Comm 130, Section 2Instructor name: Brother KerrObjective:•Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.•Create an original, new logo and use it in a bro-chure.•Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality images, not including the logo. One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the image.•Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three paragraphs, headers, and subheaders.•Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.Process:I set up my brochure in Adobe InDesign. I created an offset brochure. I had four pages to create my brochure. The front and back on one page and the rest where the inside pieces of my brochure. I used a calming color scheme to create a calming and inspiring feeling when looking at my brochure. I used some of my own images as well as some from the internet to give it a personal touch. I used a tape measure to wrap my text around on the second to last page. I used images as my back-ground instead of a color. I also used contrast with my colors. For the image of the tape measure I used the ‘paint brush tool’ in Adobe Photoshop to remove the background of the image with a mask over top. I then ‘placed’ the image into InDesign where I used the ‘text wrap’ option to wrap my text around the ‘alpha channel’ of the image. I created the logo in Illustrator using the shape tool and text tool. I created a circle and matched the color to my image on the front of my brochure. I then used the text box to design the inside of the logo.

Message: We are raising money for the Chil-dren’s Hospital by putting on a 5K where all pro-ceeds will go towards the hospital.Description:A monochromatic 5k flyer to raise money for Chil-dren’s Hospital using only Microsoft Word and a scanner.Programs used: Microsoft Word and library scanner (Epson?)Date: January 31, 2015Course # & Section: Comm 130, Section 2Instructor name: Brother KerrObjective:•Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together)•Find, scan and import a high-quality image.•Create a full-bleed design.•Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message and audience.•Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.Process:I scanned the runner image on the scanner at the library and then used word to delete the background. I then put a filter on the image to make it as black as possible. There were still words that showed up on the runner’s legs so I used black circle and rectangle shapes to cov-er them. I then used the mountain background, which I also scanned at the library. I added the black box on the right so I could have contrast for my text and added the white rectangle at the bottom to create contrast and hierarchy.

ImagingMessage: I love quotes and I wanted to create a picture that brought the Einstein quote to life. I loved the message and I think the color scheme works well with the message..Description:Show photography and editing skills using Photo-shop and a color scheme.Programs used: Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Inde-signDate: February 7, 2015Course # & Section: Comm 130, Section 2Instructor name: Brother KerrObjective:•Learn basic photography skills.•Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout.•Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.•Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharp-en tool on separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.)•Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.5×11 page layout.•Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic ele-ments in Photoshop.•Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8″ (0.125) from all four sides..Process:I choose my favorite picture I had taken for the first assignment. I wanted a color scheme and after look-ing through the Visual FOCUS book I decided on Big Split Complimentary. I decided to use the exact color scheme example in the book rather than change it because those colors were already pretty visible in the original picture. I used a Canon rented from the library to take my picture. I took it right outside of my apartment complex on my way to class. I edited the photo in Photoshop and fixed the sharpness, color levels, contrast, and tone. I also used raw camera fil-ter and brushed up specific areas of the photo. I also used the color brush altering tool in order to get the colors closer to my color scheme. I then cropped the photo to a square in order to create a polaroid picture look for my lay out. I used multiple squares. I used some circles and feathered them out almost com-pletely to create and faded color in the background.

Do not imitate existing logos or use previ-ous designs. Don’t use photos or live trace.•Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Photos are okay on business card and letterhead as addi-tional design elements. Letterhead should be 8.5 x 11, full-bleed optional, but trim only .125. Busi-ness card should be 3.5 x 2 and printed above center on a vertical page.•Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.•Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of white space.•Include contact information: name, address, phone, website, and email on each piece. Use periods, bullets, or spaces in phone number; no parentheses/ hyphens.Process:I first created the logo in illustrator and once I had it finished I used adobe InDesign to create a letterhead using shapes and text and adding the logo to the top left corner. I kept the design sim-ple and .5 from the margin so that typing over the letterhead wouldn’t be an issue.

You aren’t alone, but you are stronger than you know.Description:An inspirational montage made by the blending of two or more images, and the use of typography.Programs used: Adobe Indesign and PhotoshopDate:Februauy 10, 2015Course # & Section: Comm 130, Section 2Instructor name: Brother KerrObjective:•Unify a layout with a consistent theme and domi-nant spiritual message•Learn to blend two or more images together gradu-ally, using masks•Demonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements•Use a mask to apply a filter to one part of the image•Apply typography principles (titles, quotes, events or scriptures…your choice)•Format type: Legibility; Small copy & Title with vary-ing text size.
