Research infrastructures are the backbone of modern scientific and technological systems and are therefore instrumental in increasing the competitiveness of Portuguese research.
As efforts progress to consolidate the European Research Area, the international dimension of thePortuguese research infrastructures cannot be overlooked.
As Portugal is setting its strategic priorities in science and technology, research infrastructures of strategic relevance should support consolidated areas of excellence as well as help promoting emergingareas of strategic relevance.
