PANIC ATTACKS

REMEMBER: - PANIC ATTACKS ARE NOT HARMFUL!!

If left alone, they will run their course and stop after a maximum of 10 minutes.

By challenging your thinking, you can prevent a further attack being set-off.

(This is what is happening when you think a PANIC ATTACK is lasting for

hours).

Learn how to Deep-breath. Instructions for this can be found within the Stress

leaflet at your GP surgery.

Get hold of a relaxation tape, or learn Yoga or similar exercise, so that you can

easily recognize when you are tense, and do something about it. Do not AVOID situations which make you feel panicky. By staying in it, you will

give your mind the message This is not dangerous.

Steam Chicken with Honey

Melon Bowl (For 5)

Ingredients5 honey melons, 150g mashed chicken,

150g water chestnut, spring onion, 2

ginger slices

Seasoning

Tbsp bchamel, tbsp rice wine,

tbsp salt, 1 cup water

Methods

1. Bruise water chestnut, spring

onion and ginger; mix with

mashed chicken and seasoning

well into sticky, divide by five

bowls, steam for 20 minutes.

2. Clean and cut each honey

melons 1/3 off, dig seed out,

stuff method in, cover the 1/3part back, stem for 5 minutes,

done.

Once every three months over the age of 65 will celebrate the

birthday of the elderly members (a total of four times a year)

The Chinese legend of the Dragon encourages us to respect eachother and not to take advantage. Recently, a man whose

membership had expired for two years and had not rejoined

came to the office needing to use the phone and asked for a

translation service. He expects us to be here to help but is not

repared to contribute, whilst others fully support NCWA. Please

make sure your membership is up-to-date so that we can be here

when you need us.

Important information about swine flu

Swine flu is the common name that has been given to a new strain of influenza. It is called swine flu because

it is thought to have originated in pigs, but this is not known for certain.The most common symptomsare fever, sore throat, diarrhoea, headache, feeling generally unwell and a dry cough

Pandemic So far the new virus is known to have infected people in over 100 countries around the world.

However, this figure is almost certainly a large underestimate because it reflects only those cases which

have been confirmed by laboratory tests.

The situation in the UK

There have been over cases confirmed in the UK since the outbreak started here on 27 April. Of these, over 100 have

involved hospitalisation, and three people have died as a result of complications associated with swine flu.

The UK formally moved from a 'containment' to a 'treatment' phase for swine flu on 2 July. This meant that intensive

efforts to contain swine flu, via automatic school closures, for example, ended in order to free up capacity to treat the

increasing numbers of people who are contracting swine flu daily.

High-risk groups

Some people are more at risk of serious illness if they catch swine flu, and will need to start taking antivirals

as soon as they are confirmed with the illness. On occasion, doctors may advise some high-risk patients to

take antivirals before they have symptoms if someone close to them has swine flu.

The risk profile of the virus is still being studied but it is already known that the following people are

particularly vulnerable:

people with:

- chronic lung disease,

- chronic heart disease,

- chronic kidney disease,

- chronic liver disease,

- chronic neurological disease,- immunosuppression (whether caused

by disease or treatment), and

- diabetes mellitus,

patients who have had drug treatment for asthma in the past three years,

pregnant women,

people aged 65 years and older, and

children under five years old.

Swine flu vaccine

A vaccine to protect against swine flu is being developed but it is not available yet.

PASSPORT FEE RISES BY 7.7% to hit 77.50

The cost of a new passport is to rise by 5.50 to 77.50 prompting claims the increase was a backdoor

way of paying for ID cards.

The 7.6 per cent increase for a ten year passport will take effect on September 3. A childs passport,

which has to be renewed every five years, will go up by 3 to 49. The rise the first since 2007 has

been blamed on the recession, with the Identity and

Passport Service claiming fewer people were applying for passports which had hit revenue. This year,

demand has fallen and we must unsure this lost revenue doesnt affect our ability to deliver a quality

product and excellent customer service, said chief executive James Hall.

A Home Office spokesman said the price increase was not related to the cost of setting up the national

identity card scheme, because revenue for the passport service is ring-fenced.

The cost of renewing a passport under the fast track scheme is also set to rise, with an adult passport

costing 112.50 up 15.50, while those in a hurry to get a passport for their child will pay 96.50, also

u 15.50.
