OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL DENVER, COLORADO Food For Faith Living from the desk of Fr. Mark

The mystery of God is beyond our comprehension. The recognition and appreciation for what God does and how God presents God to us, is the beginning of faith. Only this conviction opens us up to seeking God’s messages to us and sincerely striving to live in the fashion God invites us to live. Every week, the readings contain these essentials for faith-living. Neither heeding them nor remaining ignorant about their meaning is faith. Often, it leads to people practicing religion and assuming it is faith. Think again. Every time God rescues the people (1st reading) they respond and promise to be faithful only to weaken when the next crisis arises, often the result of their failing to remain true to God’s covenant. It’s the entire Old Testament summed up in a sentence. The greatest act of faith rests upon the greatest love humanity received! It is the person of Jesus, God joining us, God showing us He is ever present, loves us and will never abandon us. If we don’t believe this, rely on it and respond to it, then faith is just a word, unreal. St. Paul (2nd reading) says it clearly: when we embrace this truth,” we put away the old self and way of life and, renewed in the spirit, we put on the new self in Jesus.” This is what becoming a new creation” means. We live our faith and share it with others. St. John (Gospel) completes the full and true meaning of God feeding us (1st reading). Their food needs replenishing daily. The bread, which gives life to all, is “Jesus, the true Bread of life!” Those who eat the Bread of life will never hunger and whoever believes in Me will never thirst.” Such nourishment is what living in the spirit means. We seek to love each other and be life-givers seeking the common good and unity of all! Do I believe?

QUOTE FOR THE YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE Saint Thérèse of Lisieux lived in a Carmelite convent with her older sister Pauline. Pauline was with Thé-rèse throughout her brief life, illness, and death at the tender age of 24. It is no accident that Jesus sent out his disciples in pairs. Having a spiritual companion, as Thérèse did, can be of great help and comfort on the sometimes difficult spiritual journey. Cultivate spiritual friendships in your own life. - Take Five for Faith

RESPECT LIFE May God’s people understand that the Lazarus of the 21st Century is the unborn child, and respond accordingly. Scripture: Luke 16:19-31 -Excerpts from the 40 Days of Life Campaign
