OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL DENVER, COLORADO Food For Faith Living from the desk of Fr. Mark

The feast of the Most Holy Trinity is the definite and absolute statement which confirms the mystery we profess to believe in and live by. It’s as simple and confounding as this, that all we know of God is what God revealed to us as time passed. Each revelation comes as a surprise, is beyond comprehension, yet its results produce blessings and benefits which the human family enjoys and appreciates. This is the path of acceptance, allegiance and obedience. We come to trust in this Mystery and heed Its’ Words. This process is repeated time and again in the Scriptures. It also is the personal, private process each one of us uses to reach and live our faith. Ultimately, it is God’s generous gift to all, a life-giving gift which energizes our lifestyle! We reflect on this and we return to the beginning: it is a mystery, realized and responded to and, only hindsight, leads us to the confirmation of its’ reality and the conviction of its’ truth! That process is presented by Moses (1st reading) reminding the people of God’s actions and expectation. It leads to a renewal of the covenant and the fulfillment of God’s promise as the people enter the promised land. St. Paul (2nd reading) says it in different terms. The mystery revealed in Creation and Covenant enters human history as a person, as one of us, in Jesus, the Son. He is God’s Word personified! The mystery of His birth, death and resurrection lead to the enlightenment given us by the Holy Spirit. It is Jesus Who sends the Spirit as the fulfillment of “being with us forever” and inspiring us to live what we accept and appreciate of God’s truth and love. Thus God’s desire for oneness with us is confirmed by the Oneness of God, in the three persons of the Trinity we experience in history and our lives! This comes about by our becoming God’s daughters and sons, the Body of Christ and the family of God, beginning with our Baptism (Gospel) with God’s promise, “Behold, I am with you always until the end of time!” How wonderful are the works of God! Do I believe?

RESTORED ORDER FOR SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION As you may have heard, Archbishop Aquila is restoring the sacraments of initiation to their original order in the Archdiocese of Denver. In the coming years, the sacrament of Confirmation will ordinarily be received in third grade during the same liturgy as First Holy Communion. While we know - indeed, we hope - that these changes will raise questions for many, we have great confidence that the answers to those questions will help to deepen and enrich your own experience of the sacraments. The archbishop wants every Catholic in the archdiocese to understand the pastoral reasons for this decision. Everyone is invited to visit the webpage archden.org/saints, where you will find: The archbishop’s pastoral letter, “Saints Among Us,” in Spanish and English, Answers to frequently asked questions regarding the upcoming changes, An invitation to participate in a live Q & A phone call with Archbishop Aquila, And a video explaining the letter. The web address again is archden.org/saints where you can sign up for the archbishop’s live teleforum on Thursday, May 28 at 7:00 pm. Please join the archbishop in praying for a greater outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit across our archdiocese and beyond. Congratulations to the children who made their First Communion on May 23 at 4:00 pm Mass. They are: Alan Mendez, Aron Mendez, Iliana Quezada, Jayci Pounders, Joaquin Ortega, Tristan Castillo, Dalton Wells, Angelo Ciccone, Luis Acosta, Andrew Berens. A BIG THANK YOU to Troy Guard and Kim Zeylmaker (manager) of Sunnyside Burger Bar for their help with our Parish Fundraiser on May 17th. Thank you to all who participated, we raised $1,000 which will go toward the stained glass win-dows in the church. Grazie Mille! Mary Lou Rhine ACA May God deepen our faith and grant us a spirit of courage to become in-tentional disciples who long to advance his kingdom through our participation in this year’s Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal. QUOTE FOR THE YEAR OF CONSECRATED LIFE A good vocation is simply a firm and constant will in which the person who is called must serve God in the way and in the places to which almighty God has called him. –St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622) RESPECT LIFE May we come to know that divine life, in relationship, creates human life. Scripture: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made, that was made. -John 1:1-3 -Excerpts from the 40 Days of Life Campaign STVDP Please bring a couple cans of vegetables or soup for the food drive for Bienvenidos Food Bank which ends this week.
