This is especially evident at American Gypsy Tattoo in Lago Vista, which has perfected the art of tattooing and created a place that offers a chance for anyone to take their art and bring it to life. American Gypsy tattoo was founded in 2011 by the husband and wife team of David Justice and Kelly Ellett. After doing business for six years in Marble Falls, they packed up and moved their family to the North Shore. David and Kelly are both the owners and tattoo artists behind the success of the American Gypsy brand. After opening in their new location in Lago Vista, David and Kelly’s goals have been to train artists in the tattoo industry and expand their unique approach to the art of tattoos. To differentiate themselves from other tattoo shops, they work individually with each client, by appointment only, to help customize a piece of fine art that they will wear for the rest of their life. It’s important to them that the artwork be developed through a collaborative effort between artist and client. American Gypsy Tattoo was inspired by David’s first experience at a tattoo shop in Lufkin, Texas. It was a “pick and stick” flash shop and was a terrible experience for both the clients and the artists. Knowing how that particular tattoo shop worked, David realized he had to make a change. He and Kelly decided to design a space that would take the art of tattoos to another level, and so far their plan has earned rave reviews. Be sure to schedule an appointment early, as David and Kelly are usually booked for up to two weeks in advance. They can be found putting needles to skin for about nine hours each day and it doesn’t stop there. Between appointments they also offer piercings as well as laser tattoo removal. American Gypsy Tattoo believes that tattooing may have at one point conjured images of dark alleys and grungy corners, but now it’s an artistic journey where they serve as the paintbrush and each client is the inspiration. I named it in honor of the history of this area, the Old Farm Community. How does the Old Farm Community Center serve the community? I saw a need for inexpensive hourly space rental for groups such as children’s gymnastics, yoga, pilates, zumba, meetings, church services and art classes, and the Old Farm Community Center fills that need. In 2013, I started Trade Days which allows local artists to showcase their art on the first Saturday of each month.
