What a joy it has been to join you in ministry here at Crossgates UMC, Brandon!
Thank you for the many ways that you have made me feel welcomed and a part of the family here at Crossgates UMC.
God has great things in store for us as we share in this kingdom journey with Him.
August begins a new season for us in the life of the church. Families begin to get back into a routine as school begins
and the “regular” cycle of church activities kicks off. As you begin to get back into a routine, I encourage you to make
church and a life of faith a priority for you and your family. Often as we set our routine for the year, we begin to have
to make choices and set priorities for the things that we want to be certain are a part of our daily lives. I remind you of
the importance of making Christ and His church high on your list.
You will notice in other parts of this newsletter the many opportunities that you will have to connect and grow in your
life of faith. If you are not already involved in a study or small group, then I invite you to join me on Wednesdays or
Sundays (or both) for a time of growing together. On Wednesday nights as our Dinner ends and other group events
begin, I invite you to join me for “Hangin’ with the Rev” as we talk about issues of life and faith. If you have a topic
or question that you would like for us to talk about during these sessions, feel free to email it to me at:
[email protected]. These sessions will not be long, unless the group continues to have good conversation.
( I hope to join the youth in worship on Wednesday nights as well!)
On Sunday Evenings at 6:30 I invite you to join me in the Sanctuary for “Strength for the Journey” a brief time of
prayer and encouragement in faith for the week ahead. We will be through in time for you to pick up your children and
youth, so join us for this special time of worship and reflection to begin your week.
We have been blessed with an incredible ministry team and wonderful opportunities to grow and serve. Help us by
playing your part by being faithful to attend, give and serve Jesus Christ through the ministries of Crossgates UMC!

City-wide United Methodist Churches Youth Fall Bash
We will be teaming up with Brandon FUMC, Evergreen UMC, The Pointe, and Trinity UMC for a City-wide Youth Fall Bash. There will be food, inflatable games, worship, and a devotion to kickoff the new school year! This event will be August 13th at Brandon FUMC beginning at 5:30 PM.
Youth Volunteer Meeting
If you are interested in helping with the youth as a small group leader or band member this fall, please plan to attend our Youth Volunteers Meeting August 10th at 4:00 PM. It will be right before the CUMC church-wide Fall Kickoff. The focus of this meeting is to see who is interested in helping lead the youth and make sure we are creatively using our resources and strengths. This meeting is VERY IMPORTANT to attend, because we will also discuss the vision of where we are going in the future and how we plan to get there.
Sunday Night Youth Small Groups
Youth small groups will begin August 17th. We will now begin small groups promptly at 5:45. Small groups will be followed by snack supper at 6:30 and closing prayer/wrap-up at 6:50. Come be a part of what Christ is doing through the relationships built in small groups.
Wednesday Night Youth Worship
Youth Worship will begin August 20th. We start each Wednesday with the Fellowship Meal at 5:30 in the gym, followed by worship music, a Bible lesson, and hangout time from 6:30-7:30.
BHS Football Tailgating
Tailgating at the home BHS football games is back again this year!!! Join us in the tailgate area for tailgating food while you watch the game!
BHS Football Team Meal
The BHS Football team will be coming to our church on September 5th before they play Clinton to have a meal and hear a devotion. The United Methodist Men will help with this ministry by providing the meal and servers. Thanks UMM!
Musicians Needed!!!
We are starting a youth praise band, and we need your help! We have a few youth
who can play instruments and sing, but they need some adults to play and sing
alongside them. If you can play guitar, keyboard, drums, or bass guitar AND would
like to play a special part in the lives of some teenagers please contact John Joiner
at: [email protected] . This would be an awesome opportunity for you to
help lead worship for the youth while also sharing your gifts and talents with the
youth in the band with you. We mainly worship on Wednesday nights, and
sometimes on Sundays before small groups.
