On behalf of the European Squash Federation, welcome to the 2019

European Team Championships Divisions 1 & 2 in Birmingham. Welcome

players, coaches, spectators and officials to the Edgbaston Priory Club,

one of the UK’s premier sports clubs, home to the British Junior Open

and the Nature Valley Classic - a WTA premier level tennis tournament.

Edgbaston Priory Club is also the current holder of the Women’s European

Clubs Championship, which it has won five times. We come to a club with a

strong heritage in racket sports, and some very impressive facilities.

May I take the opportunity to thank Edgbaston Priory Club and its CEO

Robert Bray for agreeing to host the Championships, which were last

hosted in England (Nottingham) in 2003; and to England Squash for its

support of the Club’s bid. These Championships are now in their 47th year

for men and 42nd year for women. We have a full complement of 36 teams

across 22 nations competing this year, including a number of the world’s

top 20 players. It promises to be a truly world class showcase for our sport.

The Championships would not have been possible without the significant

support from a very committed organising team led by Mike Edwards and

Mike Harris, and supported by Rob, Julie, Lucy, Kam, James, Sue and a team

of other volunteers, and a team of referees from across Europe. Thank you

to you all. My thanks also to Barry Brindle and Pavel Sladecek in their ESF

roles on this Championship.

Team squash creates a special experience, and we can expect some prolific

battles over the next four days, played in the best of spirit. I wish you all a

successful and enjoyable championship.

Zena Wooldridge OBEPresident, European Squash

WELCOME FROM THE ESF PRESIDENT

Page 4: AT EDGBASTON PRIORY CLUBAT EDGBASTON PRIORY CLUB

Welcome to the Edgbaston Priory Club, Birmingham!

We are absolutely thrilled that the 2019 European Team Championships are

being staged in England for the first time since 2003. The Edgbaston Priory

Club is a fantastic venue with a team who have a strong track record of

hosting major squash events, including the British Junior Open. I know the

club will deliver a fantastic event for players, officials and spectators.

The European Team Championships is an event that goes from strength

to strength and is very much embedded within the squash calendar. It

provides a brilliant opportunity to showcase some of the very best squash

players in the world and it is an event that England has always enjoyed

competing in and one that the athletes love to play. The event is another

great opportunity to develop the game across the region ahead of the 2022

Commonwealth Games which will be hosted in the city, and we hope that

it will further enhance the development of the game within the region and

inspire a new generation of players.

Our sincere thanks to the European Squash Federation and the Edgbaston

Priory Club for bringing the 2019 European Team Championship to

Birmingham.

Enjoy the squash!

Keir Worth

WELCOME FROM THE ENGLAND SQUASH CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Dear players, coaches and spectators,

On behalf of Edgbaston Priory Club, I am delighted to welcome you to

Birmingham and the European Team Championships 2019.

This is the first time that our club has hosted this prestigious event and

we are extremely proud to do so. In 2022 Birmingham will host the

Commonwealth Games so this tournament provides an exciting precursor

for what’s to come.

Thank you to all our supporters, sponsors and volunteers who have made

this event possible.

We are also delighted to be hosting a charity racketball day in aid of

Edward’s Trust on Sunday 5th May which promises to be a fitting end to

this exciting week.

The event is held in memory of Aidan Keane, a former member who passed

away suddenly in 2017; Aidan was a huge supporter of the Club, especially

squash and racketball. Please give generously to this worthwhile cause.

We have a thrilling tournament ahead of us, with 36 teams from 22

countries competing for the coveted European titles.

Enjoy squash at its most competitive!

Rob Bray

WELCOME FROM EDGBASTON PRIORY CLUB CHIEF EXECUTIVE

Page 6: AT EDGBASTON PRIORY CLUBAT EDGBASTON PRIORY CLUB

Set in 14 acres of beautiful grounds, just five minutes from Birmingham’s

vibrant city centre, the Club today offers 21st century tennis, squash and

lifestyle facilities – the perfect place to train, play, relax and unwind.

The club is committed to preserving this inspiring space as a private

members’ club, building upon our proud heritage and achievements in

racquet sport and providing modern fitness and leisure facilities for current

and future generations to enjoy.

The Club plays host to a number of prestigious international tournaments

attracting the world’s best players. It trains aspiring young players through

a performance programme and inspires the next generation through

community programmes delivered in schools and parks.

Birmingham is a transformed, and still transforming city, with a proud

industrial heritage. Today the city is a major international commercial

centre, and an important transport, retail, events and conference hub, and

host to many international sporting events.

Its major cultural institutions, including the City of Birmingham Symphony

Orchestra, the Birmingham Royal Ballet and the Barber Institute of Fine

Arts (at the University of Birmingham), enjoy international reputations.

It also has a range of international sporting venues, including Edgbaston

Cricket Ground, Villa Park, Edgbaston Priory Club (home of the Nature

Valley Tennis Classic), the Barclaycard Arena, and The Belfry golf resort.

The growing confidence of the city is reflected in the award of the UK bid

to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

PLAYING ORDER: The playing order of matches in all Ties on each day of the Championships will be randomly drawn by the CAP, witnessed by at least 2 independent observers, by 22:00 hours at the latest on the day before the Start Date.

In Men’s Ties, if 4 matches are played on one court, the #1 player must play 2nd on that court. If only two matches are played on a court, the #1 player must play 1st on one court. The playing order of all matches will be drawn against 6 possible permutations.

Page 23: AT EDGBASTON PRIORY CLUBAT EDGBASTON PRIORY CLUB

In Women’s Ties, the #1 must play 1st or 2nd with the playing order of all other matches being drawn against 4 possible permutations (1-2-3, 1-3-2, 2-1-3, 3-1-2).

TIES: Players will be required to complete all matches in a Tie unless the result of the Tie has already been decided.

If the result of the Tie has already been decided on count-back before a Match commences, then that Match will not be played, and the result will be recorded as ‘un-played’. If the result of the Tie becomes decided on count-back whilst a Match is in progress, then play will cease at the end of the current Game and the result will be recorded as ‘unfinished’

A Tie is decided on count-back in line with Rule K3 only if the result of the Tie cannot be changed, however many more matches, games or points are played in that Tie.
