25th Annual Rutgers–CamdenSummer Writers’ Conference

The annual Summer Writers’ Conference offers an intensive series of workshops, lectures, and meetings to Rutgers students

and the community.

Throughout the conference, nationally known and award-winning writers, poets, and editors host hour-long readings of their works during the afternoon.

The reading series is open to the public and free. Refreshments will be served.

Readings begin at 1 p.m. Location: Stedman Gallery, Fine Arts Building.

This summer’s Art Soup Stage Adventures presents a refreshing blend of Ice Age science and cool jazz, mixed with an Ethiopian folk tale – you won’t want to miss it!

Performances begin at 10 a.m. Free, but reservations are required. Location: Gordon Theater, Fine Arts Building.

Parking is available in Rutgers Lot 14 (Third and Pearl Streets) from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. only on concert days. For more

Known for presenting diverse exhibitions of work by regional, national, and international artists working in varied media, Hidden Treasures offers a unique glimpse into the Stedman Gallery’s own collection of works of art on paper. The exhibition will feature 50 works by renowned artists such as Salvador Dali, Helen Frankenthaler, Joe Goode, Jasper Johns, and Lowell Nesbitt, official NASA artist for flights 9 and 13. Newly framed for this exclusive public display, the works have been acquired over the years through donations and acquisitions, and will be displayed throughout the campus in public spaces after the exhibition closes.

From top to bottom: Shadow of Noman by William Hawk; Dismantling Rocktile by Richard Huck; and Thoth, Creator of Arts and Sciences, Confronts the Artist by Anne Heimann.

This exhibition is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, and Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

Presented by the Department of Fine Arts, the Mallery Concert Series continues its tradition

of entertaining the campus community and the general public with live music during the summer months. The

concert series is under the direction of Dr. Joseph Schiavo, music program director at Rutgers–Camden.

Concerts begin at 12 p.m. Location: Mallery Music Room, Fine Arts Building (second floor).

THURSDAY, JULY 7Jack Branagan: The Ice AgeWhat was it like to live during the Ice Age? Jack Branagan’s Earth Matters brings the Ice Age and its Mammoth Hunters to life through colorful shadow play, special light effects, large-scale models, and more! Since 1980, Branagan has performed more than 8,000 science-themed shows.

THURSDAY, JULY 14 Arpeggio: Cool Jazz for Cool KidsWarren Oree and the Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble will chill out children and adults alike with their ultra-cool jazz sounds. With nine CDs of original music, Arpeggio’s repertoire includes original and standard compositions. Audience members may be pulled up on stage for an impromptu jam session!

THURSDAY, JULY 21Catskill Puppet Theater: The Lion’s Whiskers A delightful musical adaptation of a traditional Ethiopian folktale, this show features a charming cast of human characters, as well as all of your favorite African animals, such as giraffes and lions! The show features masks and puppets ranging from three-quarter-life-sized to gigantic and is highlighted with shadow puppetry and original songs.
