Judging for the Art & Craft competitions will now take place prior to show day.

All exhibits must be delivered to the Art & Craft pavilion at the showgrounds between 10.00am and 12.00 noon on Monday 4 November 2019 (unless

otherwise indicated in the schedule).

No exhibits will be accepted after this time.

Please note there are different submission requirements for the schools’ competitions in sections 20 & 21.

GENERAL REGULATIONS

1. Only Members and Complimentary Pass Holders are entitled to free entry. 2. Entries to be lodged in writing with Secretary, subject to these regulations on or

before the stated closing time. No late entries will be accepted. 3. The appropriate Entry Fee as set out in this Schedule must accompany each entry.

No rebate of Fees will be made. Stamps as payment are not accepted. 4. The Committee/Secretary shall have the power, without assigning any reason to:

a. Reject or cancel any entry at any time. b. Prohibit the participation of any person or exhibit in any class or event. c. Cancel any event or class. d. Alter the time at which any class or event shall take place. e. Alter the conditions of any class. f. Remove any exhibit from the Showgrounds. g. Transfer an exhibit or exhibitor to any other class.

5. The Society shall not be responsible for loss, damage or injury occasioned to any exhibit or property any exhibitor from any cause whatsoever.

6. Exhibitors enter entirely at their own risk, in case an exhibit, whilst on the Showgrounds causes injury or damage to any exhibit or exhibitor the person or property of any member of the Society or the General Public, the owner of such exhibit shall indemnify and keep indemnified the Society, its’ Officers, Officials and Members from and against all damages, costs, claims, expenses, and liabilities incurred in connection with such exhibits. The exhibitor shall be liable to the Society and its Officers for any damages or losses occasioned to them by the exhibitor or their agent.

7. The owners and/or controllers of stalls, side shows and stands shall keep indemnified at all times the Society, its Officials, Members and property against all damages, costs, claims, expenses, or liabilities incurred in connection with the conduct of any stall, side show or display stand.

8. The Committee/Secretary of the Society reserve the right to adjudicate any entry or question in dispute or doubt and to make any determination upon matter whether covered by the conditions of entry or not. The decision shall be final and binding. The Society shall have the sole and absolute control of all matters affecting the conduct of the Show. The Society has adopted the rules and procedures of VAS Ltd in respect of hearings and appeals.

9. Raffles or collections on the Showgrounds prior to or on Show day are prohibited without written consent of the Committee of Management.

10. No side show or stall holder shall reserve space on the Showgrounds. 11. Each exhibit is required to take part in parades in the Arena at times set out. Failure

to do so will entail non-acceptance at subsequent Shows. 12. PRIZES AWARDED WILL BE DISTRIBUTED ON SHOW DAY AND WILL BE

FORFEITED IF NOT COLLECTED. 13. OH&S REGULATIONS MUST BE OBSERVED AT ALL TIMES. 14. THE MAIN GATE TO THE SHOWGROUNDS WILL CLOSE TO VEHICULAR

THE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETIES OF VICTORIA

RURAL AMBASSADOR AWARD

Steward: Mrs L. Leask 5433 3444

Plaques will be given to winners at local country Agricultural Shows. Regional winners will be

provided with an official jacket to be worn at the State final at the Royal Melbourne Show.

The State final winner will receive a major prize and must compete in the National Finals.

The State winner will be announced at the Royal Melbourne Show.

AIM: The competition aims to:

• Highlight the talent, creativity & ingenuity of young Rural Victorians and encourage them to be role models in their communities.

• Encourage and reward enthusiastic, skilful, industrious young people involved in Rural environments.

• Assist entrants through participation to develop strong communication and leadership qualities and directly assist the winner through the support of a bursary.

• Enable applicants to gain greater proficiency in their chosen field and develop stature and reputation in that field.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY:

• Apply by completing the application form.

• An unsuccessful applicant may re apply providing they meet the guide lines.

• Previous State winners are not eligible.

• Be aged between 20 &30 years inclusive at the time of their local Show.

• There will be NO joint winners. If a decision cannot be made, advice will be sought from the Chairman of the Youth Affairs Committee.

• Judges decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

• Finalists may be involved in a rural or agricultural based industry or associated with a Show Society but do not need to reside in a rural community.

• All Finalists will be invited to join an RAS Committee of their choice for the 12 months following the competition.

CRITERIA: Entrants must wear smart, casual, tailored clothing and will be judged in accordance with the following guidelines. Communication Skills 20 points

VAS Ltd JUNIOR SHOW AMBASSADOR

AIMS OF THE COMPETITION: To give young people a chance to take part in a competition whilst still residing in their local district. To be part of a local Show and therefore highlighting the importance of Shows. AGE: Open to males and females aged 16 – 20 years at the time of the local Show. JUDGING CRITERIA: Entrants must wear smart casual clothing and will be judged in accordance with the following guidelines: Community involvement 20 points Rural and general knowledge 20 points Ambition/goals 20 points Communication skills 20 points Personality and confidence 10 points Grooming and deportment 10 points TOTAL 100 points Winner at show society level will compete in a group final. A piece of patchwork machine pieced and quilted, max. size 1 square metre. Exhibit tickets must be attached to all exhibits. All work must be made in the past 2 years and must not be washed or dry cleaned. Names, initials or private marks must be covered. 1. A piece of Patchwork machine pieced and machine quilted, maximum size 1 square metre.

2. An article of hand embroidery. Any type (excluding cross stitch). 3. An exhibitor may represent only one Society at a Group Level and one Group

at State Level. 4. An article having won at a Show will compete at a Group Final. The winning

article will compete at the next Royal Melbourne Show.

5. The Melbourne Group 14 winners of the current show will compete as a finalist in the following State Final at the Royal Melbourne Show.

6. An article having won at State Final is no longer eligible to compete in the competition.

7. Each article entered, must be the bona fide work of the exhibitor. 8. If for any reason a winner is unable to compete at Group or State Final Level

then the second place getter is eligible to compete. 9. A person will not be permitted to win at more than one Show within the State

in any one year. Persons not adhering to this rule will be required to forfeit/refund prize money.

COOKERY SECTION - RECIPES

VAS Ltd RICH FRUIT CAKE COMPETITION RECIPE 250g Sultanas, 250g chopped Raisins, 250g Currants, 125g chopped Mixed Peel, 90g red Glace cherries, 90g chopped blanched Almonds, 1/3 cup Brandy or Sherry, 250g Plain Flour, 60g SR Flour, ¼ tsp. Ground Nutmeg, ½ tsp Ground Ginger, ½ tsp Ground Cloves, 250g Butter, 250g Brown Sugar, ½ tsp Lemon Essence or finely grated Lemon Rind, ½tsp Vanilla Essence, ½ tsp Almond Essence, 4 large Eggs. Method: Mix together fruit & nuts and sprinkle with sherry or brandy. Leave at least 1 hour or preferably overnight. Sift together the flours and spices. Cream butter and sugar, add essences. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Alternately add the fruit and flour mixture. Mix thoroughly. The mixture should be stiff enough to support a wooden spoon. Place mixture in a prepared 23cm (9”) SQUARE cake tin and bake in a slow oven for 3 ½ – 4 hours. Allow to cool in tin. Note: To ensure uniformity, raisins can be snipped into 2-3 pieces, cherries 4-6 piece, almonds crosswise 3-4 pieces. VAS Ltd CARROT CAKE COMPETITION Open to all carrot cake enthusiasts everywhere. 375g plain flour; 345g castor sugar; 2 tsp baking powder; 375 ml vegetable oil; 1 ½ tsp bicarb soda; 4 eggs; 3 medium carrots grated (350 grams); 2 tsp ground cinnamon; ½ tsp ground nutmeg; ½ tsp allspice; 2 tsp salt; 220g tin crushed pineapple drained; 180g pecans, crushed. Method: 1. Preheat the oven to 180c (160c fan), grease a 23cm (9”) round cake tin and line with baking paper 2. Sift the dry ingredients together into a bowl. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and oil, then add to the dry ingredients. Mix well then add the carrots, crushed pineapple and pecans. Mix to form a smooth batter and pour into the cake tin. 3. Bake for approximately 90 – 100 minutes or until a bamboo skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. 4. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes in the tin on a wire rack. Upend and allow to cool on the wire rack. TIP – A well-kept competition cake making secret –lay a tea towel over the cake rack before turning the cake out to prevent the imprint of the cake rack appearing on your competition cake. BOILED FRUIT CAKE RECIPE Boil together 4oz Butter, 1 cup Sugar, 1 cup cold Water, 1pkt mixed Fruit, 1 cup plain Flour, 1 tsp mixed spice,1tsp bicarb of soda. When cool, add 2 eggs, 1 cup SR Flour, 1 cup Plain Flour. Place in 20cm (8”) cake tin and bake for 90 minutes in a moderate oven.

VAS Ltd JUNIOR BOILED FRUIT CAKE RECIPE 375 g Mixed Fruit, ¾ cup Brown Sugar, 1tsp Mixed Spice, ½ cup of water, 125g Butter, ½ cup of Sherry, 2 Eggs lightly beaten, 2tbspns Marmalade, 1 cup Plain Flour, 1 cup SR Flour, ¼ tsp Salt. Place the sunbeam mixed fruit, sugar, spice, water & butter in a large saucepan and bring to boil. Simmer gently for 3 minutes, remove and allow to cool. Add sherry, eggs and marmalade, mixing well. Fold in the sifted dry ingredients, then place in a greased and lined 20cm (8”) ROUND cake tin. Bake in a moderately slow oven for 1 and a ½ hours or until cooked when tested. VAS Ltd CARROT AND DATE MUFFINS A COMPETITION FOR JUNIOR CAKE MAKERS UNDER 18 ON THE DAY OF THEIR SHOW. Ingredients: 2 ½ cups SR Flour 1tsp ground cinnamon ¼ tsp ground nutmeg 1 cup Brown Sugar ( firmly packed) 1/3 cup pitted dates 1 cup coarsely grated carrot 1tbs orange marmalade 1 cup Canola oil 2 Eggs lightly beaten ¾ cup orange juice 1 cup reduced fat milk icing sugar for dusting METHOD:

1. Heat oven to 190c (moderately hot). 2. Line and spray a 12 hole muffin pan with large paper cases. 3. Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl, stir in dates and carrots, then add the

combined marmalade, oil, juice and milk. Mix until just combined. 4. Spoon mixture evenly into prepared pan holes. 5. Cook for 20 minutes. To test if muffins are cooked, insert a cake skewer, if

it comes out clean the muffins are ready. 6. Stand muffins in pan for 5 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool. 7. Serving suggestions: Serve warm or cold dusted with icing sugar. 8. Serves 12 (if you only eat one each).
