Who are you?

My name is Olasubomi Archibong. I am Nigerian. Hail fromthe Southern Part of Nigeria, from Cross Rivers State to bespecific. I was born into the family of Mr. & Mrs. Archibong. Icome from a family of five, my elder brother; Tayo and myeldest sister; Oyinkan.

I love dancing and travelling. On the dislikes list are waiting in queues and bad food.As an undergraduate, I studied Architecture at the School of Architecture,University of Lagos, Nigeria. Graduated the Fourth best student in the entiredepartment. For the last one year, I have endlessly been seeking opportunitiesavailable for me to make a positive impact in the society through AIESEC.

Why are you applying for MCP 16/17? What makes you the right person for the role?

After my very first interaction with Kenya through my very first exchangeprogram with AIESEC in USIU, the question for me as always been “How can I payit forward to AIESEC?” for giving me such an experience that changed me for thebest. I took up an NST Role, was part for the AFROXLDS 2015 (Kenya) CongressCommittee and for the last five six months I have serving as Member CommitteeVice President in charge of Marketing and Public Relations. But I feel like there isstill a little more I need to give back to this amazing entity that made me what Iam today.I think I am the right person for the role because unlike the conventionalperspectives of the role as the toughest in the AIESEC hierarchy. For me it will beanother day in the life, living my dream and making sure I am able to replicate myexperience to as many Kenyans.

Who motivates you in life? Why?

For the past five years, I have been listening to a poet that goes by the name ofJermaine Lamarr Cole from the shanks of Fayetteville, North Carolina in theUnited States of America. Also known as J.Cole, he inspires me every single daybecause we share the same childhood story, same background and gradually thesame come up. I am motivated by the way he has handled success, being one ofthe most successful poets in the history of man, but still walks in the street, takingpictures with fans in the street, living in a basic accommodation in Queens, NewYork and not forgetting family. This keeps me going every day. Having said that, Ihave very valid dreams that someday I will be very successful and I will live lifeexactly the way Mr. Jermaine has thought me. Humility is key. As MCP, I can drawsome daily inspiration from Mr. Cole to make sure that members don’t see me asthe Almighty MCP but as another friend.

What are your biggest failures in life? Describe how they shaped who you are?

Just after my exchange in Kenya, I was super motivated and ready to rule theworld. As a team member, who knew barely anything about AIESEC, I decided torun for the post of Local Committee President for AIESEC in Lagos. I was upagainst the current Vice President for Talent Management, Eyewuene Akpieyi.Losing the elections by one vote difference was a failure for me, but this made meunderstand that if I had just put in a little more effort I would have made itthrough. Hence, I applied for the role of Local Committee Vice President,Marketing. In this role, I was still green in the beginning, but I knew the power ofputting in effort in everything I do, and by the end of my term I was a member ofthe Global Support Team for AIESEC International.

Creativity/

Solution-

Oriented

My ability of think on my feet and come up with solutions to problems will

greatly contribute to the overall growth of my team in being solution-

oriented. As MCP, this trait I find very handy simply because of the

challenges that this role is susceptible to.

Jack-of-all-

trades

Owing to my AIESEC Experience I have been opportuned to work in every

portfolio in AIESEC. Hence, I have a very broad understanding of every

portfolio in an ideal AIESEC entity structure. As MCP, this will enable me

assist my team with understanding their JDs and what exactly is expected

of them.

Competitive Naturally, I am very competitive. Must be the reason why I was the one of

millions that made it to earth. Competitive because I believe nothing is

impossible to achieve as long as you give it a 110%. As MCP, I will like to

instill this mindset in my teammates, not only competition with other

AIESEC entities but also within the Member Committee. This can be

referred to Healthy competition and will hence lead to more results.

Quick-

Decision

Making

This can be seen as a strength and also a weakness to me, but as MCP it

may symbolize weakness. But, with the presence of my team, decisions

will be made after I have heard the views of the Member Committee. This

will slow down the decision making process considerably all in efforts to

avoid regretting all made decisions.

High

Expectation

Setting

I am subconsciously tempted to expect very high standards from people

around me. Overtime, I have seen this to increase burn outs but the job

gets done at the end of the day. As MCP, this is will help the Member

Committee to remain on their toes from start to finish.

Overly

Analytical

As an individual, I take time to analyze situations before jumping into

conclusions. This enables your statements to be grounded with facts. As

MCP, this will help the team work smart and not necessarily hard. As half

the HARDWORK is done by thorough research and data analytics.

Provide an analysis of the external environment in Kenya and what trends AIESEC in Kenya can capitalize on to grow in 16/17?

The external environment of Kenya is largely characterized by the following:1. Social Media Revolution2. Entrepreneurship is the new rave3. Starts-Ups being nurtured in HUBs4. 2017 Elections approaching5. Poverty is still the order of the day in the low-income society

The poll results above shows the thoughts of millions of Kenyans onthe direction the economy is going.

Increased focus on ICT.

Kenya has been named one of the most IT intelligent cities in Africa by CNN aswell as a hub for IT start-ups. There is a massive need for IT talent in mostcompanies and this shift will come in handy in creation of GE opportunitiesaligned to the start-ups. ICT will also make things smoother for our stakeholdersranging from EPs, corporates and students by providing better service, supportand AIESEC being easily accessible through our various platforms.IT has madethe world a global village and AIESEC Kenya will have a shift on using digitalmarketing of opportunities and positioning AIESEC Kenya as a national brand.

Demographics

Escalating birth rates and higher life expectancy are rapidly increasing thepopulation of Kenya where 23% of the population is between 18-28 years. Thegrowing population is going to significantly intensify existing on creatingmeaningful job opportunities to address youth unemployment in each market. This will improve the growth of our opportunities by leveraging on targeting mostof these youth hence increasing all our products TXP, GCDP and GIP.

Rise of the individual

Advances in global education, health and technology have helped empowerindividuals as never before, leading to increased demands for transparency andparticipation in government and public decision-making. These changes willcontinue and are ushering in a new era in human history in which more peoplewill be middle-class than poor. AIESEC Kenya will be able to harness on strongindividuals as the best talent to take the entity to the next level.

Provide a holistic analysis of AIESEC Kenya. What trends do you see helping the organization grow as well as trends you see holding the organization back in 2016/2017?

The performance of AIESEC in Kenya in the past five has been generallysatisfactory and there is ample room for improvement. Some of the highlights inthe past five years: the last UBS AIESEC in Kenya won for a tremendous growthin 2012/2013. The performance of the entity has been undulating ever since.Currently, AIESEC in Kenya is gradually stabilizing with significant growth inGCDP. Productivity has also been steady rising since 2010.

YouthSpeak Initiative

Kenya currently stands at the 15th position globally with 670 responses in thecollection of YouthSpeak responses. This is very healthy recognition for theentity. This responses also ripple into worthy credible of the YouthSpeak Forumwhich aims to bring over 1000 young people from across Kenya and also topdecision makers to discuss issues affecting Kenya. This initiative will put AIESECin Kenya at the fore fronts of issues regarding young people in Kenya.

AIESEC 2020

The whole organization is evolving right before our eyes. It is somethingrefreshing for our members. New goals will be set. More motivation for members.New wheels driving the organization to shape our operations around worldissues, be accessible and grow disruptively. This is a good time for the mid-termambition to rekindle the vibe in sleeping members and push them back to work.

United Nations (UN) Partnership/Youth Action Summit

Partnering with the United Nations to push the Global Goals was a very strategicmove from AIESEC International. Also, embedding the Sustainable DevelopmentGoals (SDGs) in the YouthSpeak Survey also increased the credible of the surveyin itself. The partnership at the international level makes it easy for us in Kenya toreplicate the same partnership. The Youth Action Summit in the same light gaveAIESEC as whole the opportunity to be hosted at the UN Headquarters in NewYork and hence will enable us created more relationships post YAS.

Provide an analysis of entity partners and provide insights on how we can change/improve them.

Endless changes to the GIS

After the AIESEC International Congress 2015 India, there has been numerousadjustments to the GIS, which is a good thing. Change is always welcome, especially when it is positive. But, the problem sets in trying to relay tutorials onhow to use these systems and the next day a change has been made. The changesmade to the GIS may be one of the hold backs to hit 16/17.

KENYAN STUDENTStudent: Hello what is AIESEC?Me: Well, AIESEC is a global youth organization but you have to experience it to really understand. You can join us as a member working in a team and better yet you can also go to one of our 126 countries for a 6 week internship working on a societal project.

COMPANYCompany: Good Morning sir, so tell me about AIESECMe: AIESEC is a global youth run organization and we have the best global talent in the world. Working with us will tremendously grow your company by accessing our youth network.

PARENTMOM: You keep mentioning AIESEC. What is it about?Me: I want to stand out in the university. I want to have more than just a degree. AIESEC will train me to be a better leader mom.

PROFESSORProfessor: Young man what is AIESECMe: Sir, since I came to this university I have really grown. AIESEC is a global organization that instils values such as striving for excellence, demonstrating integrity, living diversity, enjoying participation and many others. Through this values and our vision of peace and fulfilment of humankind I believe this is the best student organization in the University.

5 YEAR OLDStars story to the 5 year oldonce upon a time...long time before you were born there was a war. People were fighting and then someone decided to stop the war from ever happening again. He formed AIESEC. Now you are safe because AIESEC brought peace.

After achieving the AIESEC 2020 midterm ambition AIESEC continued to growrapidly and there was a shift from being program based to leadershipdevelopment in every experience. This enabled the improvement from being aperformance based organization to more align to our vision which is peace andfulfilment of humankind’s potential. The refreshed AIESEC way based itsleadership as the main solution to the world problems. It’s also based on whatAIESEC does well which is offering leadership development as well as itsmembers who understand the essence of leadership. It defines leadership as asummary of: world citizen, self-awareness, solution oriented and ability toempower others.

Describe your understanding of the refreshed AIESEC way and its importance to AIESEC in Kenya.

Importance to AIESEC Kenya

The AIESEC way is a guide to our members on the purpose of our existence aswell as the unique way that the organization is achieving it. AIESEC Way enablesAIESEC Kenya to place its confidence in youth who unlock the keys to a betterfuture. These youth can be able to take up cross cultural experiences inchallenging environments to improve their leadership skills. It keeps the entitygoing with a clear task of engage and developing every young person in thecountry.

What is your understanding of AIESEC 2020 and what is its relevance to AIESEC in Kenya?

The AIESEC 2020 mid-term ambition is an evolution of the AIESEC 2015. This isgoes to say that we don’t have completely start afresh because we have a newmid-term ambition. We just need to put in more effort and make some changes tothe way we run our operations.

In February 2016, the 2020 Roadmap and new AIESEC XP would be launched, sobased on this I would align my year plan by making 2020 a core in planning for MCprocess. Also, I would devote the first national conference to alignment with 2020through the co-creation and co-design of an AIESEC in Kenya Agenda, AIESEC inKenya 2020 Vision and Roadmap (drawn from the global output). But, I wouldexpect being part of the current MC team 15/16 for AIESEC in Kenya, we wouldactually start implementing change management and network alignment ofAIESEC 2020 now in the network and me as MCP16.17 and my team follow-upwith simple actions and change management.

In 16/17 what will be the most relevant market for each of the AIESEC programs? How will you ensure that AIESEC in Kenya increases its market share in those markets?

OGIP: Undergraduate students who want to pursue professional internships, final year students looking for job opportunities and recent alumni.

OGCDP: Social studies students who want to have practical societal impactexperience, freshman and sophomore students on long vacation, studentspursuing foreign languages e.g. Alliance Françoise students taking an internshipin Rwanda to improve their French.

Outgoing exchange needs a strong sales culture from offline to online marketingof opportunities. Empowering members to do the right planning for strategicmarketing. Having a strong supply and demand alignment and capitalizing on

conversion.

IGIP: Upcoming start-ups for GE opportunities, more regional corporates and ashift to adapting to "diverse cultures in corporates" recruitmenthaving a strong sales culture in the entity. Aligning recruitment to Businessstudents with interest in Sales, Networking by going to events that are strategicfor building partnerships and alumni involvement in finding warm contacts.

IGCDP: Growing number of issue based NGOs, CSR opportunitiescoming up with a national project that will cover an issue that is dominant in allthe 47 counties. In the past year AIESEC Kenya won 5M KSH as CSR withMicrosoft. Participating in more CSR will leverage on the financial sustainabilityof the IGCDP program.

In your opinion what is the relevance of AIESEC Kenya in the sub region, region and global network? What will be its contribution to each in 16/17?

Sub region

Developing the East African Region. AIESEC Kenya was the first to start in theregion and has expanded to the other countries such as Rwanda etc. It isperceived as one of the top performing countries and serves the purpose ofgrowing the region. This can be done through various activities such as:

• Spearheading the launch of an East African GCDP Project and GIP products• Playing a support role in the region through CEEDerships, faci roles as well as

regional idea hubs to build regional capacity.• Participating the Pioneers conference.• Leveraging on the regional companies that are emerging to form strong

partnerships.• Stronger social impact in East Africa by being change agents, addressing

significant issues in the region and valuing the diversity of cultures in theregion.

Region

• Drive Africa initiatives such as "Unleashing Africa"• Push corporates for regional partnerships e.g. Ecobank• Outsourcing talent• Showcasing impact of Kenya in the region.

Global Network

AIESEC Kenya’s relevance to the global network is to ensure that the globalvision is met. There are always different challenges and the world needs differentthings. AIESEC Kenya has the relevance of creating cross cultural experiences foryouth to undergo leadership development so as to improve the world hencemeeting the vision of peace and fulfilment of humankind’s potential.

6

Page 8: Archibong Olasubomi MCP Application_AIESEC Kenya

Which entities would you like to partner with for each program which in your opinion will bring the most purpose/relevance to AIESEC in Kenya? Why?

Most relevance to AIESEC in Kenya:

There is actually no entity partner that is not valuable or that won’t bring in a substantial amount of relevance. But AIESEC in Kenyaneeds to focus on Sub-Regional dominance. This means that we in the East African region we will be known as the Number onsupplier of top talent for both programs, we will also be renowned for creating the best projects suitable for providing solutions toSub-Region. For us to achieve this we need to start building long-lasting relationships with entity partners from the East AfricanSub-Region.

As MCP of 2016/2017 you will have the chance to take the first step into the 2020 midterm ambition. What is the AIESEC in Kenya you dream in 2020?

Five years from now, I envision an AIESEC in Kenya that the government of Kenya calls upon when it comes to issues affecting youngpeople in Kenya. I envision the talent pipeline capacity of the entity so strong it becomes a hub for various companies to recruit freshemployees. I envision an AIESEC that has taken time out to tailor all her operations around the sustainable development goals, hence, by 2020, we will be globally recognized as a major contributor to the fulfilment of the global goals. By 2020, I envision anAIESEC in Kenya that is accessible to all young people nationwide, in all Universities and gradually perpetrating high schools. This isthe AIESEC I envision for Kenya.

List some contributions that MC F1, MC All Stars, MC Panda, MC Bolt and MC Cannon has made to the national plenary over the past five years and how your vision and focus builds on these contributions.

MC F1The MC is famously known for the launch of Kuleana as a national project. This team was the best in results in Africa hence winning the coveted UBS award. The team had very strong interactions with the alumni having the annual "Innovation Cafe" and monthly alumni golf. My vision and focus will pick the National project as an initiative that can also be run during my term.

MC All StarsThe team is famously known to have launched the "Amplified Conference" as well as the one team having three MCVPs taking up MCP roles after their terms. The team also took over 80 delegates to AFROXLDS and won the “I am a regional citizen campaign”. The main vision and focus from this term is external relevance by being a role model entity for the region and strongly participating in regional conferences to strategically position the entity for partnerships.

MC PANDAThe team is known to have had a very strong succession and leadership pipeline with 12 MCVP applicants in the first round. It's the team that also launched the new financial model with an increase in TN and EP fee for sustainability. The team also successfully hosted pioneers conference with 300,000ksh profits and new partners such as VIVO energy and KASNEB. The main vision and national focus from this team is having strong leadership pipelining.

MC BOLTMC Bolt hosted one of the best AFROXLDs conferences in history. The team launched the OD model which comes in handy when tracking the growth of the LCs. The team also had a shift of focus hence strengthening OGX in the entity and being one of the top in the Unleashing Africa campaign. The main vision and national focus from this is scaling up impact to have strong results to be a role model in the region.

MC CANNONBoom! This team first and foremost has given me the best six months of my life. Here are some of our achievements for the past six months.Won the #UpgradeYourWorldKE campaign ($50,000) hence enabling us leverage on media presenceLaunched the AIESEC AcademyThe resource and opportunity hub will also be very useful in 1617Setting the pace for Africa, standing in second place in Africa and 16th in the Global YouthSpeak Survey by the end of 2015 (670 responses).

How would you like to see AIESEC in Kenya positioned externally by the end of your term? Provide a summary of your strategies to achieve your goals.

Being one of my focus for 1617, external positioning with be achieved using thisthree propellers:

Strategic partnerships: This is an initiative that MC Cannon has already startedworking on, MC 1617 will take this a notch higher by establishing strong bondswith more media houses and opportunity hubs. This is as a result of the recentlyestablished relationship with OPPORTUNITIESFORAFRICANS, this opportunityhub grew our OGX sign ups from 90 to 350 in three weeks. More of the same willlook very good on AIESEC in Kenya.

Events: It will be unsafe for us to assume that AIESEC in Kenya has reached thepedestal we planned to reach when it comes to familiarizing the organizationwith the media, corporates and even universities. One good event is all that isrequired to engage all our stakeholders from partners to parents. This is alsoanother avenue for us to get into the media and showcase to Kenya what we do.Another platform that can be explored is events online, considering the budgetthat will be put into live events, Kenyans have been proven to be very active onvarious social media platforms. That said, it's a channel that can be leveraged onvia tweet meets to reach out to as many Kenyan youths.

National Awards: A very good example of this was illustrated by MC Cannonwhen we applied to partake in the OLX SOMA awards, although the category forwhich we applied was closed, we were opportuned to make contacts during thenetworking space which helped us much later. In an ideal situation, applying forsuch awards an emerging winner comes with a lot of perks add to the inevitablerecognition which we long for.

What is your ambition for the exchange program goals for 2016/2017? Using the Global OD Model and AIESEC in Kenya OD Model as a framework, what are your goals for entity development in 16/17? Provide an explanation of your goals and briefly state strategies to achieve it?

GCDP: Increasing the quantity and customer centricity by starting the implementation of our financial model, increasing our conversion rate and developing leadership in every experience by embedding the LDM in our programs.

GIP: Kicking off and reaching maturity strengthened up by having a strong sales culture, strong client networking and alumni involvement.

GOALS FOR ENTITY DEVELOPMENTFront and back office alignment to Talent Capacity for growth: Our members need to understand the AIESEC 2020 ambition how, what for and why they should work. Talent capacity should continue as a priority and has to be translated into productive members. This can be done by recruiting the right talent, trainings, appraisal, rewards and recognition.

Direct societal impact GIP and GCDP MOS: By understanding better what we are doing we are able to develop societal impact and develop leadership in every experience and sustainable solutions to our partners and stakeholders. Through taking surveys, sharing stories and absorbing EPs into AIESEC we can gauge the experiences we deliver.

External connection focus: AIESEC in Kenya is a strong product and we can leverage our reach and make our product wider. This can be through being the voice in East Africa, CEEDers and working towards moving up the ladder as a leader in our global model tier.

Supply and Demand development: AIESEC in Kenya isresponsible in East Africa by supplying EPs in the region aswell as coming up with strong projects to be done in theregion. Coming up with ultimate strategies such as buildingLC to LC collaboration will strengthen the bond for a balancein supply and demand in the region.

Smart marketing focus on conversion for ExperientialLeadership Development: Digital media is reaching placesnever imagined. Someone in Kisumu can easily access theAIESEC opportunities and apply. Using the media (TV, print, social media) by coming up with strong national campaignswill position AIESEC as an opportunity hub in Kenya henceincreasing our reach.

Customer experience translated into process optimization:Making what can be simple, simplified and what is complexsimple. Having a national vision and plan and teaching theLCs how to deliver these meaningful experiences. This can bedone through summits, portfolio camps, regional coaching, national conferences, idea hubs, regional competitions sothat the LCs understand the national direction, implementation and how to effectively deliver goodexperiences.

Putting yourself in the shoes of each customer for each of our programs. What would you stop, start and continue to improve their experience? Base your answer on the customer flow.

OGXStart: Early planning for the peaks, strong partnerships especially OGCDP in the region and OGIP for "countries with no visa issues", sharing of EP stories, monitoring the EP experiences and launching strong exchange campaigns.

Stop: Poor planning, delayed conversion especially with LCs, slow expansion to all counties signing up for opportunities

Continue: using the opportunity portal, coming up with ideas for process optimization, working on regional collaboration

ICXStart : Monitoring the EP experiences, engaging the partners even after sealing the deal, contacting past partners, having national projects, focus on GEStop: Having very long matching periods, doing few sales calls

Continue: Selling during peak periods, servicing of current partners, attending strategic networking events, regional collaborations e.g. fill a bus campaign

GLOBAL LEADERStart: Implementation of AIESEC academy, strong recruitment model to align talent capacity to results, implementation of the team minimums, tracking the LCs.

Stop: Having no focus on productivity, spoon feeding the TXP, underutilizing the conference touch points.

Continue: Investing in the training of members, using the OD model and national conferences.

Describe your proposed MC Structure

MCVP External Relations (ER) will merge the roles of BD and PR, this isgoing to make selling of AIESEC a lot easier when one person is handlingevents and also sourcing partners for the operations of the entity.MCVP Talent Management & Organizational Development (TM&OD)This is also being merged to control the OD Model and make it easier forthe MCVP TM to notice any slight fault in the OD model before things gowrong and too late to correct.MCVP OGX & Expansions: Expansions has been added to this role solelybecause the chunk of numbers expected from expansions will be sourcedfrom OGX. Yes, OGX is already an overwhelming portfolio, there will be12 month managerial position available to manage the operationsinvolving expansions. All other portfolios run as in an ideal AIESEC Hierarchy.

What kind of leadership does AIESEC in Kenya need in 2016/2017 term? How would you describe your leadership style and how will you use that to lead your team and AIESEC in Kenya in 16/17?

AIESEC in Kenya is at a stage where the LCs that usedto perform outstandingly are falling, some entities arerising at the same time while the rest are eithermaintaining the pace or undulating with theirperformance. Right now, AIESEC in Kenya needs aservant leader, one who shares power, puts the needsof others first and helps people develop and perform ashighly as possible. I have taken boatloads of leadershipstyle assessment tests and they all give me differentresults each time, as an LCVP, I remember emerging asa synergist, took it again with my MC team andemerged a commander. This two styles don'tcompletely express my leadership style and I feel this isso because I am able to adapt to the environmentaround me quickly and work well with the people I findtherein.

That said, I picture a very indigenous MC team come1617. One that already has a feel of the current stateof the entity and understands the state of emergency. As a synergist, which I connect more with, synergy willfirst reflect in the creation of sub teams within the MCteam. This will enable VPs get into their roles faster. The president’s board will be a platform for me to catchup with the progress of LCs and what changes need tobe made at the top to help the LCs achieve more.
