Azimut has always been synonymous with good yachts and the latest off the yard again stands testament to this: the Atlantis 34, rightfully described as a work where substance and comprehensiveness meet. More to the point, the boat is the result of a challenge to come up with a sea vessel that contemporaneously is a great open and a great cruiser. Another work of art in this edition is the Pershing 82, a sea craft described by boat lovers as something coming out of innovative aesthetics perfected with attention given to comfort and unmistakable performance.

A contemporary reinterpretation of Pershing 80, this new vessel, 23.99 metres long and 5.50 metres wide, is capable of reaching a top speed of 45 knots and a cruising speed of 40 knots, with a range of 300 nautical miles.

12Al Marakeb a UAE-based manufacturer of

powerboats, has announced that 2012 was the company’s best on record, with sales of its boats doubling compared to 2011. The Sharjah-based manufacturer said the company also increased its production capacity by 70 percent.

Local sales increased by 60 percent while the company’s network of regional and international agents grew, helping to boost export sales to 40 percent of total sales. The company aims to increase exports in 2013 by signing several more international agents in Africa and Europe.

Nour Al Sayyed, architect and head of Design and Production at Al Marakeb says UAE’s boat-ing industry has witnessed a steady increase in demand last year.

“This is an indication of a maturing market and as a result there is great growth potential which Al Marakeb aims to capitalise on.

“The demand for our boats is out there, and through constant upgrades, investing into expand-ing our factory capacity, and a consistency in the services that we provide, Al Marakeb is surely to meet the market demands and perhaps one day have the capability to produce and sell over 300 boats per year worldwide,” he says.

Al Marakeb will also introduce two new mod-els to their fleet line-up, bringing the total to five different models, while existing best-selling mod-els will see feature enhancements designed to increase appeal and value offering.

One of the new models, Habbar 25, was launched in January 2013. Costing just AED 28,000 it is a basic 250-ft unit, simple and practi-cal, especially for fishing aficionados.

The other new model, Scylla 35, will be Al Marakeb’s top-of-the-range offering. Set to be released in June 2013, this 35ft long, upscale boat will offer a comprehensive list of features includ-ing a cabin, and will be priced at AED 145,000.

To meet increased sales and production, Al Marakeb has increased its workforce by 50 per-cent.

“One of our unique sales propositions is that every craft that leaves our workshop is different,” says Al Sayyed. “It is part of our brand mission that the client feels he owns a unique and luxuri-ous product, at a highly competitive price. This is

an attribute of Al Marakeb’s product offering that we will ensure continues.”

In addition to the new product offerings, Al Marakeb also has several product and feature introductions that the company believes will fur-ther strengthen brand appeal. For one, the Spartan 25’s basic specifications will be increased such as hinges on the back seat bench, a longer and wider console unit – all at no extra cost to its original range of AED 38,600. It also gets CE certified (EU Certification for Rec-reational Craft) for two metre waves. Additions to Dino 31, Al Marakeb’s best seller for 2012 which saw sales quadruple compared to previous year, will include among others, a compass and a windscreen, all at the same cost of AED 60,000.

Last but not least, the Triton 35 is an upgrade to the former Triton 33, where it gets an access platform with teak wood finish thus increasing length. Other supplementary features will be the windscreen, stainless steel bow railing and an upgraded sound system. Maintaining the competi-tive pricing strategy, the new model will be priced at AED 105,000.

On the back of the expansion plans and in-creased product line up, Al Marakeb’s marketing plans are also being raised a notch over the next 12 months, including the introduction of annual fishing competitions in March and a charity event in September. The company will also be back at the Dubai Pre-Owned Boat Show in November 2013 where it will reinforce its growing reputa-tion alongside some of the more established competition.

DOHA (Qatar): U-5 Graham Trucking’s Jimmy Shane snatched a dramatic victory in the Oryx Cup UIM World Championship in Doha Bay on Saturday afternoon to conclude the 2012 season of racing in the Air National Guard H1 Unlimited Hydroplane Championship.

“It’s been a great first season in this champion-ship for me and to cap it with a win in the Oryx Cup is superb,” said an ecstatic Shane.

“I must congratulate Jimmy on a great drive today,” said David sportingly. “It was not meant to be, but there is always next time.”

The Qatar Marine Sports Federation (QMSF) hosted a 25-minute Marathon Aqua Bike Race two hours before the main Oryx Cup UIM World Championship event. Twenty-four Qatari, Kuwaiti and Emirati racers took part in the 10-lap race on a tricky, wind-affected 2.5-mile course around the island in Doha Bay and there were 14 finishers.

Thamer Ahmad Abu Faisal held off a strong challenge from fellow Qataris Waleed Mahmoud Al-Sharshani and Rashid Rashid Al-Mohanadi to seal victory and the first cash prize of 20,000 Qatari riyals. Ahmad Rashid Al-Dauas and Mohsen Al-Hajri completed the top five, albeit one lap behind.

Oryx Cup UIM World Championship finalSteve David (U-6), Jon Zimmerman (U-9), Tom

Thompson (U-11), Jimmy Shane (U-5), Brian Per-kins (U-88) and J. Michael Kelly (U-37) started the

five-lap final on Doha Bay and lane choice was left to how the boats lined up when they entered the course (‘get in score’ or ‘score-up’) one-minute before they took the flying start. Kelly ran as the ‘trailer’ boat and had to start five seconds behind the other five racers.

The race was delayed by 40 minutes because an exceptionally low tide made it impossible to crane the boats on to the pontoon, but eventually got underway at 3.40hrs. Kelly was dramatically disqualified before the boats reached the back straight on the warm-up lap for failing to leave the inside lane and that left the door open for Shane to edge in front of David through the start and the first turn.

The Maryland driver, who confirmed the runner-up spot in the National High Points title race this weekend, had the measure of David and the Florida man had no answer to the speed of the U-5 Graham Trucking hydroplane. As the race progressed and Thompson struggled at the rear of the field and Perkins began to fall behind, Shane and David edged clear of Zimmerman.

Shane drive a faultless race to take the che-quered flag and become the fourth racer in as many years to win the Oryx Cup, his success de-priving David of a clean sweep of all the heats and final in Doha.

Boats and race equipment will remain in Qatar for the next four weeks and the American teams and drivers will return for the start of the 2013 Air National Guard H1 Unlimited Championship at the start of February.

Once again, the world’s major marine industry players from a wide cross sec-tion of the trade will gravitate to Dubai and transact business and check on the

latest boat models and technological innovations as this Middle Eastern international gateway city holds its much-awaited 21st international boat show.

“Considering (that) Dubai is a gateway to the affluent Middle East and Asian luxury buyers’ market, in which one third of the world’s larg-est superyachts are owned by GCC nationals, the Dubai International Boat Show has cemented

its position as the region’s largest and most pre-ferred sales platform,” said Helal Saeed Almarri, CEO, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), organiser of the event, in a press statement.

“The Middle East,” he added, “has established itself as one of the fastest growing leisure marine markets in the world and the show continues to be a major factor in driving the marine industry’s business in terms of research, product sourcing and networking opportunities.”

The DWTC has confirmed that 19 of the world’s most luxurious superyachts will be show-cased at the event, representing a 40-percent

The boating industry in the UAE is “get-ting back quite strong” compared to previ-ous years, according to a top official of the Italian Boating Industry Association, who also stressed that the slowdown was not solely caused by the global financial crisis, but also by the Dubai International Boat Show “which had a moment of weakness.”

“The market is getting back quite strong in 2012 compared to 2010 and 2011.

This has to do not only with the crisis but also with the Dubai boat show which had a moment of weakness,” Emanuele Spadaro, Marketing and Event Manager of UCInA, the Italian boating group, told Arabian Yachts.

“now the problem is solved. Dubai is again the leader of boat shows in the re-gion,” he added. Spadaro said the Middle East market is “mainly super yacht-orient-ed,” adding however that owners use their boats not in Dubai but elsewhere around the world, the main destinations of choice being Europe and the Caribbean.

“People here are buying but are not us-ing their boats in Dubai,” he said. Spadaro said the reason for this is not the lack of marinas as some quarters have said. “Dubai has 2,000 berths. Two thousand is a big number,” Spadaro said, adding that the UAE could actually still lack the support infra-structure to keep the marinas occupied.

“People go boating and dock their boats at places where they can enjoy their time,” he said.

In addition, the newly established Super Yacht Experience, which falls under the umbrella of the prestigious global Superyacht Builders Association (SYBAss), has confirmed that 11 of its members have already confirmed participation in the event.

The 21st Dubai International Boat Show will provide a platform for the widest range of boats in the GCC, latest innovations, world premieres and regional launches. The event kicks off from March 5-9, 2013 at Dubai International Marine Club – Mina Seyahi, attracting over 750 compa-nies and brands. More than 26,000 visitors, 5,000 VIPs and high net worth individuals are expected to flock to the event, according to DWTC.

Last year, the show had 33 global and regional launches with multi-million dollar sales recorded and around 784 major boating companies from 49 countries in attendance.

Debut

DWTC said Malta, Armenia and Malaysia will be joining the event for the first time. Eight country pavilions are confirmed this year while Turkey returns to the boat show with the biggest con-firmed floor space of 800sqm – eight times larger than in 2012. The state of Florida (US) will have a new dedicated pavilion due to strong demand from the United States, according to DWTC.

Meantime, among the major superyacht play-ers displaying their latest models and designs are AMELS, ART Marine, Benetti, Fincantieri, Gulf Craft, Heesen Yachts, KaiserWerft, Lürssen, Mondo Marine, Oceanco, Palmer Johnson, Sanlorenzo, Sea Pros, Sunseeker, Trinity Yachts and Westport.

Key segments of the show also include the Marina Display area, comprising the largest on-water display in the Middle East; Luxury Supplies & Services housing the finest luxury fixtures and fittings from around the world; and Equipment Supplies & Services, an indoor area filled with exhibitors specialising in products essential to the supply and servicing of the leisure marine industry.

The Supercar Promenade complements the strong line-up of segments at the Dubai Inter-national Boat Show. now in its third year, the Supercar Promenade showcases the world’s most exclusive vehicles on four wheels alongside high-end marine crafts. Manufacturers and dealers will be situated within the purpose-built promenade at the Dubai International Marine Club - Mina Seyahi.

Atlantis 34, the latest from the Azimut Ben-etti Group’s Open specialist, was created for the upcoming boating season: It’s a completely new design, an aggressive response by neo Design and the Atlantis Design Department incorpo-rating the distinctive style and features of the larger models while entrusting the engineering to Seaway.

Presenting a new model with a hull length of less than 10 meters also signifies that Atlantis intends to resume its place in the medium/small sector. Atlantis 34 is the result of a challenge to come up with a boat that contemporaneously is a great open and a great cruiser.

Maximized

This means intensive effort was put into maxi-mizing the open spaces as well as the interior areas, where you’ll find a master cabin separated from the rest of the

interior in addition to a pleasant open space in the bow that is both convertible and well-lit thanks to the hull’s large windows.

The exterior line echoes those of the larger models, which began with the collaboration between Atlantis and neo Design that, by itself, has produced a range of five new models – from 34’ to 58’ – completely updated in only two years.

The boats are unmistakable with a free board, which takes up 60 percent of the total eleva-tion. This means a muscular hull that houses extremely comfortable interior spaces and a deckhouse that fills the remaining 40 percent of the visible area.

The exterior sports a swim platform function-ing as a 2.5 square metre private beach that can also hold a tender (up to 2.5 m). The table for six in the living area can be transformed into a sun pad and the sunroof is equipped with a manual

soft-top, standard for this series. next to the helmsman’s station is a comfort-

able chaise-lounge, a convivial spot that will become the centre of on-board life. Two sym-metrical, 21-cm.-wide walkways lead with ease and safety to the bow, where you’ll find a spa-cious sun pad.

DeckThe deck is well equipped with storage, bottle

holders and lockers. Below, the living area is dominated by a large, V-shaped sofa/dinette that converts into a double bed (200 x 250): a genuine dinette for lunch as needed, served by a well-equipped galley, 1.9-metre-high and featuring a double hob cooker and an 80-litre refrigerator.

The head features separate access and natural ventilation. Aboard the Atlantis 34, you’ll find space for a comfortable master cabin, well-insulated from the rest of the interior, with maximum headroom of 1.95 m and considerably large bed (147x200 cm).

The oak wood finishes with lacquered insets are same as those used in the fleet’s larger mod-els. Lockers, cabinets and wardrobes offer a stor-age volume of more than 1,350 litres, distributed between the dinette/galley and the master cabin. Characteristics such as these make this boat a true cruiser, allowing two couples or a family to enjoy a pleasant cruise.

SubstanceSubstance and comprehensiveness make the

Atlantis 34, entry-level for this range, a particu-larly appealing and quite competitive boat for those looking for both quality and comfort com-bined with compact size.

It features two Volvo Penta D3, 220 hp en-gines with Duoprop Aquamatic sterndrive, one of the most efficient and durable systems for powering boats of this size, and also an excellent choice due to its low maintenance requirements.

The performance offers a maximum speed of 32 knots and a cruising speed of 29 knots. Pershing has unveiled 82 feet of cutting edge design, excellent performance and top comfort for on board living in the latest model of the brand in Mondolfo,

penciled once again by the yacht designer Fulvio De Simoni, in collaboration with AYT (Advanced Yacht Technology – the naval research and de-sign center of the Ferretti Group) and the team of architects and designers of the Centro Stile Ferrettigroup.

A contemporary reinterpretation of Pershing 80’, this new vessel, 23.99 metres long and 5.50 metres wide, was designed to enhance the plea-sure of yachting and to ensure maximum perfor-mance at sea.

It has a thrust provided by two powerful MTU 16 V M93 of 2435 mhp (1792 kW) with Searex SR140S propulsion system together with Rolla surface piercing propellers. It is capable of reach-ing a top speed of 45 knots and a cruising speed of 40 knots, with a range of 300 nautical miles.

The propulsion system is run by AutoTrim, an exclusive functionality that optimizes the perfor-mance and the consumption of the boat at any speed and with any load, in a completely auto-matic manner.

Featuring a streamlined and aggressive exter-nal profile, Pershing 82’ immediately shows the strong sporting spirit that distinguishes it, given its elongated lines that make it possible to have larger internal volumes, providing wide spaces which guests can enjoy, offering greater comfort and liveability.

External linesAs regards the external lines, the eye-captur-

ing distinctive feature is the sun-deck with an optional retractable helm station, which can be reached by means of an innovative carbon steel staircase, created from the collaboration of AYT and Besenzoni.

Lowered automatically into the cockpit by an electro-hydraulic control, the staircase disappears upwards when not used, leaving a wide free space in the cockpit.

An exclusive area that welcomes the guests on board, a simple and practical sun deck: at the bow, next to the retractable helm, there are two comfortable chaise lounges next to the pi-lot’s seat, in which a practical minibar has been placed. Aft is a sunbathing area with separate backrests which – upon the ship owner’s re-quest – can fold electrically. Finally, to ensure maximum safety on the sun-deck, there are two

Main deckDown on the main deck, one of the most com-

fortable areas, one is immediately struck by the wide spaces in the cockpit and the main saloon, which are divided by a retractable door which is electro-hydraulically controlled, to offer maxi-mum comfort.

Practicality, combined with design, reigns in the large cockpit, designed to make the best of sociability aboard. There is a sofa and a seat which can electrically be transformed into a comfortable sunbathing area, a mobile bar with BBQ and a fiberglass table. As in other models of the range, even on Pershing 82’ the sun- deck at the bow is completely independent from the opening of the large garage, allowing the guests to relax in the sun undisturbed. The garage has a folding bottom to facilitate the movement of the

Jet Ski and a tender.Besides in the cockpit, comfort and airy spaces

are also found in the main saloon, transforming live-ability into a modern lifestyle. At the bow, on the right, there is a big L-shaped sofa, while in the middle there is a sofa that can be joined to another one to form a horseshoe.

Designs Important brands designed the furnishings:

Besides the long-standing partnership with Poltrona Frau, designer of the dashboard, the seats and the chairs, there are lamps by Cassina, carpets by B.I.C and a folding table with a metal base and a crystal top by naos. The finishes made of open pore oak create an elegant contrast with the parquet slats made of wengè painted pol-ished oak.

In addition, on the deck there is another sun-bathing area at the bow, with a dinette and an optional table, an idea that makes it possible to

have complete privacy aboard. Below deck, Pershing 82’ is a custom-made

model, tailored to the ship owner’s requests. The standard layout has four guest cabins: the master suite amidships with en suite, a VIP cabin forward also with an en suite and two cabins with twin beds at the bow of the master suite. There is also a third bathroom, which is used dur-ing the day, and two crew cabins (one for the captain and one for the sailors) which can be reached through the saloon, with a laundry room and a bathroom. On the other hand, the optional layout has 3 guest cabins with a lounge cinema room starboard.

The internal layout is designed to have the typical spaces found on a mega yacht, for ex-ample the galley, which is L-shaped, modern and completely separate from the saloon and the sleeping area, to allow greater privacy for the ship owner and his guests. The galley equipment, such as the double door refrigerator, the dish-

washer and the optional micro-wave oven are all designed by Bosch, while the oven is designed by Miele.

Sleeping areaThe sleeping area, which can be reached by

means of a comfortable staircase, is found next to the dashboard, a true example of class and elegance. In the master suite, amidships, there are wide open-view windows, which mark the aesthetic changes of the new Pershing range. The sinuous shape of the window draws in a generous passage of light that throws a pleasant play of lights onto the Poltrona Frau leather furnishings. Among them is the entirely revised headboard, which runs along the wall, made of two cen-tral cushions and two pockets near the bedside tables to hold the reading lights. All the other stuffed furnishings in the cabin have been once again designed in collaboration with Poltrona Frau: the desk, the pouf and the guardrail which

was strictly hand-sewn. It is also worth noting the particular position of the TV 32” that – hid-den away in the ceiling – can be lowered to be watched by means of an electrical system.

The bathroom of the master cabin, which is separated by a sliding door with glazed glass, is greatly lighted from the revised and enlarged windows. The attention to detail has been pushed to excellence: it is worth noting the Starlight glass mosaic, which captures the shades of the colours chosen for the leather articles in the master suite, the sink, which rests on the fur-niture top, the unmistakable design of Antonio Lupi and the particular retractable mirror which is also present on Pershing 80’. Then there are the mixers which were taken care of by Signorini.

VIP cabinThe VIP cabin, at the bow, has been studied

down to the least detail, it features an elegant central bed and two big lateral wardrobes, while

the two guest cabins are more traditional and practical with two twin beds. The design of the headboards is completely innovative, with a se-ries of pockets which were created by the skilled craftsmen of Poltrona Frau. Another touch of style is the choice of the bardiglio and zinc colours used for the leathers, providing a lively and sportive environment without sacrificing elegance.

The lighting has also been greatly innovated. The side windows are wider and the portholes can be opened, providing more air and luminos-ity in the internal spaces. The lighting system is made of embedded LED lights distributed along the ducts on the concealed molding providing indirect light and creating a great atmosphere even below deck.

In all, Pershing 82’ is a cutting-edge yacht that makes the best use of surfaces and heights, with-out betraying the DnA that has made Pershing famous in Italy and abroad.

Two powerful Caterpillar C18 engines with 873 horsepower each were installed, providing a maximum speed of 15.2 knots.

Agantur Shipyards, a 27-year old ship-builder based in Bodrum, Turkey special-izing in custom super yachts recently launched AD5, a 31.70 metre motor

yachts with original designs inspired by the characteristic and traditional sail boat forms of the Arabian Peninsula known as the dhow.

The designs of sailing yacht AD5 were ap-proved by the Royal Institute of naval Architects (RInA) and the construction started. However, when the first two blocks of the hull were fin-ished, the shipyard’s client decided that he would like to have a motor yacht instead of a sailing yacht.

In this new direction, while the first two blocks of hull were fixed, the rest of the design and calculations were redefined to accommodate the client’s wishes without altering the essence of a traditional dhow lines.

From the exterior lines to interior features

including the engineering, Agantur Shipyards did all calculations and design in-house.

ClassicalIn the beginning, AD5 sailing yacht was de-

signed more along the classical lines of a dhow, as well as the interior design. Yet, when the de-sign transformed to become a motor yacht, the interior design lines and the choice of materials were changed completely to catch the new lines of the motor yacht.

The most distinct style of the traditional dhow form can be seen easily with the strong fore hull lines and the wide beam. During the transforma-tion, efforts were made not to change the hull lines with only the aft structure being altered to accommodate a swimming platform.

On the other hand, the superstructure was changed completely and gave birth to a beautiful crossover. Including the transformation phase,

the construction of the steel hull and the super-structure was completed in 8.5 months.

Supreme conditionThe rest of the time was spent in detail with

the fitting of the hardware, interior decoration and painting. The yacht was built in supreme condition.

AD5 was built according to RInA C+ Hull o Mach ‘Y’ Unrestricted navigation Class notation. The steel sheets that were used in the construc-tion of the yacht were selected with the highest strength values. These selected sheets were only allowed to be used after testing and certifica-tion.

From the sheets to welders, all construction aspects of the yacht have to be certified by RInA.The most advanced manufacturing methods were used such as the block construction system in-stead of the conventional piling method system

which allows speeding up the process and mini-mize deformation.

EnginesTwo powerful Caterpillar C18 engines with

873 horsepower each were installed, providing a maximum speed of 15.2 knots. From a bow thruster to zero-speed TRAC stabilizers, the yacht is fitted with almost every hardware possible such as Hamann sewage treatment system, Sea Recovery watermaker, sprinkler system, and so on.

Also the powerful CAT generators with 38kW each are programmed to provide no power out-age.

Other than the common rock wool insulation application, the entire yacht was sprayed with temperature and sound isolation using Delta T and Delta db.

In addition to thermal isolation, the yacht was fitted with tropical Frigomar Air conditioning system specially for the warm waters of the Ara-bian Peninsula.

The entire lighting systems are LED including the lighting for the engine room and even for the bilge system. Victron batteries are installed for service, VHF and emergency batteries.

Swimming platformThe large swimming platform allows going

onboard very easily with its generous pasarelle, which also carries a tender with the help of an electronic crane. When you walk up the stairs from the swimming platform to the aft deck, instead of a dining table, you come across a Ja-cuzzi with a set of large sunbeds. Forward deck has another large seating patio with a barbecue and foldaway sink.

Entering through the electronic glass door, one arrives at the navigation station and the helm at the starboard of the captain quarters. Oak veneer is combined with nougat color lacquer paint used at the helm station and captain cabin.

The spacious saloon, which is divided into three separate areas and includes a head, can be accessed from both side decks and also from the stairs next to the helm station.

Consisting of a working space, dining area and a very large sofa seating, the nougat color lacquer paint and walnut veneer are prevalent through out the saloon. The chrome detailing throughout the area enriches the simple yet el-egant line of the saloon.

Two staircases going up to the saloon allows access from both to cabins and also the galley and crew quarters.

Master cabin The master cabin, the single cabin and the

double cabin in the aft are all decorated withoak veneer and nougat lacquer paint combina-

tion and leather bedheads. There are two more single cabins with three separate beds in each at the forward that are decorated similar to the aft cabins save for changes in the veneer and touches of chrome linings.

environment with one wall reserved entirely for the refrigerator, bio fresh, deep freeze and the icemaker.

The crew quarters are designed for four crew-members and a stewardess with separate heads.

The entire yacht is equipped with nuvo music system and Lutron automation systems including throughout cabins. With one remote, you can control the lights, electrical curtains, air-condi-tioning, TV/SAT/DVD and the home theater.

It’s not just her lines or the features that makes her unique, but also the exquisite

drawings on her freeboard that makes AD5 one of a kind. In accordance with the requests of the owner and detailed work by graphic design-ers, the drawings on the freeboard are applied meticulously that includes oriental essence with Arabian thoroughbred horse motifs.

Just like all our other yachts, AD5 was built with immense care and passion. Although we are overjoyed with every adventure of design and construction a new yacht, it becomes hard to let them go as you get attached to them in time when you are launching each one to a far corner of the world.

Agantur Shipyards is currently constructing a sailing 37.4-metre steel dhow; a new 27.5-metre steel Gullet and a 12-metre GRP Tirhandil sail-ing yacht. Also in production is a 13-metre GRP Lobster motor yacht, while two 32-metre motor yachts, and a 38-metre sailing yacht project are getting ready to kick off.

This race will be remembered for the array of conditions experienced and the commitment of the smaller boats to finish despite the wind playing into the hands of the larger boats.

The 68th Rolex Sydney Hobart may have finished with one boat, Wild Oats XI, scooping all the serious silverware, but to limit the story to that fact would be

an injustice to the other 75 yachts that raced, as the event will be remembered for the array of conditions experienced and the commitment of the smaller boats to finish despite the wind playing into the hands of the larger boats.

And so this story.The pre-race weather forecast identified two

key moments that would shape the race’s out-come: the arrival on the first night of a north-easterly that would extend throughout the race area, and, a change late on the second day to a building westerly flow that would encircle Tasmania, blowing hard to the north and south of the island, with a tricky shadow in the im-mediate lee. The predicted timing of these tran-sitions favoured the faster yachts, particularly the 60-footers Black Jack and last year’s winner, Loki. In the end, the actual timing favoured only one boat.

The 2012 Rolex Sydney Hobart set off from Sydney Harbour on Dec. 26, 2012 at 13:00 AEDT. Yachts scorched towards the Heads under spinnaker in a brisk southeasterly. Wild Oats XI was first out. Her line honours rival, Ragamuf-fin-Loyal, was struggling to keep up.

For the smaller boats, the first afternoon was brutal. Wild Rose was among a group that had headed out to sea seeking an advantageous southerly current, only to conclude that it was too far out to make the move worthwhile.

The following morning Wild Oats XI drifted across the finish with everyone on tenterhooks. She had finished in 1 day, 18 hours, 23 minutes and 12 seconds, shaving 16 minutes 58 seconds off her old record.

For a few hours it seemed a group of fifty footers scheduled to arrive in the early hours on Dec. 29th might break the Wild Oats XI stran-glehold. In the end both Calm and the other contenders were brought to a halt by two park-ing lots close to the finish. When the predicted southwesterly eventually settled in it brought

30 knot wind, heavy rain and poor visibility. In such a race, it was only right that the far-

thest travelled - Yoshihiko Murase’s KLC Bengal 7 from Japan and Simonas Steponavicius’ Am-bersail from Lithuania - would finish minutes apart. They converged at Cape Raoul before racing side by side across Storm Bay and up the Derwent River. Ambersail crossed 6 minutes ahead.

On the following day, Dec. 30th , the winds were abating and competitors were able to en-joy the final stages. Close to 40 yachts finished during a captivating 24-hour period.

And there you have it, the story of the 68th Rolex Sydney Hobart.

عندما هبت الرياح اجلنوبية الغربية جلبت معها رياح ب�شرعة 30

عقدة، امطار قوية وروؤية �شعيفة.

يف مثل هذا ال�شباق، كان من ال�شواب فقط ان امل�شافر االبعد

7 م اليابان و�شيمونا�ش بنغال �شي اي كي موري�ش – يو�شيهيكو �شتيبونافي�شي�ش امرب�شيل من ليتوانيا – قد ينهي بدقائق اقل.

وقد التقوا يف كايب روول قبل املناف�شة جنبا اىل جنب عرب خليج

�شتورم و�شوال اىل نهر ديروينت. تقدم امرب�شيل بــ دقائق.

يف اليوم التايل 30 دي�شمرب، كانت الرياح تتجه للهدوء وكان

املناف�شون قادرون على التمتع باملراحل النهائية. حوايل 40 يختا

انهوا ال�شباق خالل فرتة 24 �شاعة.

كانت مناف�شات رولك�ش �شيدين هوبارت 68 رائعة. قد تكون

انتهت مع قارب واحد، وهو وايلد اوت�ش اك�ش اأي، الذي فاز بجميع

املراحل، اال انه الق�شة مل تكتمل ف�شولها مع اليخوت االخرى

الــ 75 التي �شاركت يف ال�شباق والتي تعر�شت لكثري من االحداث

االمر الذي �شيبقي هذا ال�شباق يف الذاكرة نظرا للظروف

القا�شية التي اختربها امل�شاركون وال�شرار القوارب اال�شغر

حجما على موا�شلة ال�شباق حتى النهاية على الرغم من الرياح

التي تالعبت باملراكب الكبرية.

لعبت توقعات الطق�ش التي �شبقت بدء ال�شباق دورا حا�شما يف

حتديد نقطتني رئي�شيتني يف نتائج ال�شباق: اوال و�شول الرياح

يف الليلة االوىل من االجتاه ال�شمايل ال�شرقي والتي طاولت حلبة

ال�شباق، والتغيري املتاخر يف اليوم الثاين وتدفق الرياح من

االجتاه الغربي الذي احاط بتا�شمانيا، والذي هب بقوة باجتاه

�شمال وجنوب اجلزيرة، ما �شكل ظالال خادعا يف اجلانب

املحجوب من الرياح. وقد رجحت هذه التوقعات كفة اليخوت

اال�شرع، ال �شيما بالك جاك 60 قدما ولوكي الفائزة يف �شباق

العام املن�شرم. يف النهاية، التوقيت احلقيقي الفعلي رجح كفة

مركب واحد فقط.

انطلق �شباق رولك�ش �شيدين هوبارت 2012 من ميناء �شيدين يف

26 دي�شمرب 2012 ال�شاعة 13:00. وقد تناف�شت اليخوت على ال�شدارة يف ظل رياح جنوبية �شرقية. وايلد اوت�ش اك�ش اي كان

اولهما. وقد كافح راغاموفن – لويال من اجل موا�شلة ال�شباق.

77اأعلنت “املراكب” ، اإحدى ال�شركات الرائدة يف ت�شنيع القوارب

يف دولة االإمارات العربية املتحدة، اأن عام 2012 كان االأف�شل

يف �شجل ال�شركة حيث ت�شاعفت مبيعات القوارب باملقارنة مع

عام 2011. كما �شجل فرعها يف ال�شارقة اأي�شا زيادة يف قدرته

االإنتاجية بلغت حوايل 70%.

% فيما وقد حققت مبيعات ال�شركة املحلية ارتفاعا بن�شبة 60

�شهدت �شبكة وكالئها االإقليميني والدوليني تو�شعا ملحوظا، ما

�شاعد على تعزيز مبيعات الت�شدير بن�شبة %40 من اإجمايل

املبيعات. وتهدف ال�شركة اإىل زيادة ال�شادرات يف عام 2013

من خالل توقيع مزيد من ال�شراكات مع وكالء دوليني يف كل من

هذا الطراز الذي تبلغ تكلفته 28،000 درهم فقط بكونه ت�شميما

منوذجيا اأ�شا�شيا مب�شاحة 25 قدما، وت�شميما عمليا وب�شيطا،

وخا�شة بالن�شبة ملحبي ال�شيد.

ومن جهة اأخرى، �شوف يكون طراز �شيلال 35 الراقي يف �شدارة

الت�شاميم التي تعتزم “املراكب” اإطالقها، يف يونيو 2013.

وتقدر قيمة هذا القارب الذي يبلغ طوله 35 قدما، وي�شم قائمة

�شاملة من امليزات مبا يف ذلك املق�شورة بحوايل 145000

درهما.

ويف �شعيها اإىل مواكبة االرتفاع الكبري يف املبيعات واالإنتاج، قامت

50 يف املائة خالل العام. بن�شبة العاملة قوتها “املراكب” بزيادة وتابعت نور، “اإن اأحد مقرتحات البيع الفريدة لدينا هو اأن كل

طراز يخرج من ور�شة العمل خمتلف ومميز. ويكمن جزء من

مهمة عالمتنا التجارية يف اأن ي�شعر العميل باأنه ميلك منتجا

مبيعا يف عام 2012 والذي حقق زيادة يف املبيعات بن�شبة اأربعة

اأ�شعاف مقارنة بالعام ال�شابق، ت�شمل من بني اأمور اأخرى، بو�شلة

وواجهة زجاجية اأمامية، وبال�شعر نف�شه وهو 60000 درهما.

واأخريا يخ�شع طراز تريتون 35 الن�شخة املعدلة لطراز تريتون
