Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan’s

SMT SURAJBA COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

(Managed by Indian Council of Basic Education)

JUHU, MUMBAI-400049

REPORT OF IQAC 2013-14

Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan’s Smt Surajba College of Education in its IQAC forum had decided to

have Quality Indicator as bringing out SOCIAL EQUALITY AMONGST THE SOCIETY for

the year 2013-14. It was decided aptly because it is one of the aspect of our institutional

philosophy also. Our philosophy explicitly and overtly believes that there has to be more

equality in society that peace and serenity remains in society. Equal opportunity remedies past

discrimination, fights present-day discrimination, and promotes diversity in our society. There is

also a strong economic argument for equality. If people are not able to reach their full potential,

the economy suffers.

Social equality is generally equated with the notion of equality or equal opportunity in society.

Although equality is undeniably part of social justice, the meaning of social justice is actually

much broader (Scherlen and Robinson, 2008). Further, "equal opportunity" and similar phrases

such as "personal responsibility" have been used to diminish the prospective for realizing social

justice by justifying enormous inequalities in modern society (Berry, 2005). The most recent

theories of and scholarly statements about social justice illustrate the complex nature of the

concept.

We are working toward a fairer society by improving equality and reducing discrimination and

disadvantage for all, at work, in public and political life, and in people’s life chances.

So we did the following to achieve the QUALITY INDICATORS for year 2013-14 following

activities were organized:

Sr

No

Program Objective

1 Equitable society with Equal Opportunity :

NATIONAL SEMINAR

1. Create Sensitivity

2. Deliberate some measures to reduce the

gap between groups and society

2. AMAN SETU: Building Bridges Across

the Heart

1.Understanding the aspect of Peace in

providing equality

2 . Ensuring the role of various agencies in

promoting peace

3. EXHIBITION ON EQUALITY 1. Familiarizing the society with the

concept of equality.

2. Developing inner talent of the student

teacher

Revised Guidelines of IQAC and submission of AQAR Page 34

4. 4 DAYS RURAL CAMP 1.Sensitizing the student teachers with

different dimension of EQUALITY

2.Develop psychomotor ability to perform

physical activities to develop empathy for

less fortunate people.

4. Screening of FILMS: SUJATA and

TAREY ZAMEEN PAY

1 Discuss and deliberate on issues of

Equality

2. Understand the strategies of developing

EQUALITY

5. EXTENSION ACTIVITIES 1.Student should be able to develop

Programs to sensitize the school children

towards Equality

2.Understand the responsibility of teacher

towards the society

Beside this there were many activities organized through daily teaching learning activities. Also

the entire ANNUAL PROGRAM of this year was focused on the aspect of Equality. The Guest

Faculty was invited to talk about Peace and Equality.Dr Ram Punyani, Dr Sudha Mohan and

Dr Gautam Gawali spoke on the aspect of equality and gave theoretically various aspect of

Equality.

The IQAC was in the entire year active, alert and focused to ensure that the quality indicator was

always in the focus and all the activities were geared and planned accordingly.

Not to forget the four MANDATORY MEETINGS that were organized at regular interval to

keep a check on the various activity. It indeed benefitted the entire college and all its member in

various ways. The IQAC also was able to do a lot of behavioural changes in the students and the

staff because of the focused attention given to the quality parameter.

The debate over equality of opportunity opens onto core political and theoretical questions,

including the delineation of public and private domains, individual versus group identity, and the

possibility of impartial standards. At stake in this debate are shared concerns with legitimating

and transforming political institutions, negotiating competing social values, and cultivating

practices of social justice. Indeed, it was a very fruitful endeavour.
