2.12 How does IQAC Contribute/Monitor/Evaluate the Teaching & Learning processes:
The IQAC contributes significantly to improve the teaching and learning process; primarily by functioning as an agent for self-introspection at the end of each academic session. The parameters enunciated in the IQAC are questioned, analyzed and discussed as also the various practices adopted by the college during that year and this leads to re-thinking and pre-planning for the next session, thus reducing inherent complacency in the system. It helps in monitoring, promotion, implementation and continuous improvement in college curriculum, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. It also inspires students to maximize the utilization of library resources.

(C) Computerisation of Library
Library is under automation and its functioning is hoped to improve
much after complete computerisation.
(d) Efficient communication system
The college infrastructures like auditorium, conference hall, and
principal office have been equipped with audio visual and new & latest
modes of communicative systems. The teachers are provided with the
facility of collar mikes, mobile audio visual systems etc. for efficient
teachers learning process.
(e) Website:
To meet the requirement of time, the institution has launched its website
i.e. www.mdsdcollegeambala.com to disseminate its information on the
Website.
5. Feedback Mechanism
Students give the feedback about the teachers at the end of each session.
The feedback from the students is obtained teacher-wise and course-wise.
The questionnaire on the feedback performa aims at getting the responses
and reactions of different stakeholders. These feedback forms are analysed
and evaluative report is submitted to Principal. The outcome of the
evaluation and its analysis is intimated to the concerned ones for
understanding their strengths and weaknesses, and make improvements.
6. Teacher student Interactions
Informal interactions between students and the concerned teachers are
encouraged. All efforts are made to ensure healthy teacher-taught
relations and a positive teaching-learning environment.
7. Sexual Harassment Cell:- Sexual Harassment Cell is the
another milestone in the history of the college. Students gladly
welcomed the idea.
8. There are some other innovative practices to promote a positive
impact on the functioning of the institution
Digital Display Board:-Digital Display monitor is installed at the
entrance of the college hall to communicate the daily events of
the college, important information for students, students
achievements and important news to the college community.
Facilities for socially disadvantaged students:- We follow many unique methods which also help students from socially disadvantaged sections to benefit like....
- Financial aid to the students who are socially and economically backward by way of fee education and fee ship out of our own
resources .Economically disadvantaged students are given facility to pay fees on instalment basis .
- We give some relaxation in the cut off percentage for admission to encourage the socially and economically backward students.
- Book bank is a facility provided by our college with the aim of helping the financially backward students by providing with text books on various subject.
- To facilitate differently abled students, we provide facilities such as ramp, suitable washrooms, assistant to write the answers in exams and time adjustment to suit their capacity.
- Our supporting staff is available to provide assistance to the differently abled students in the college premises.
7.2 Provide the Action Taken Report (ATR) based on the plan of action decided upon at the beginning of the year:
Action Taken Report See Annexure II
7.3 Give two Best Practices of the institution
TWO BEST PRACTICES:
The Best Practices that may be given the credit of being called the two best
practices are:
Making the students socially responsible citizens.
Creating maximum emphasis on practical knowledge by
imparting Vocational Education.
Best Practice-I
Title of the Practice: To make the students socially sensitised and
responsible citizens.
Goals: To produce well aware, confident and courageous
women to encounter social evils.
The Context: Social evils and crimes against women are rampant
in the society. So it is the need of the hour that
women at the college level are well trained through
different programmes to stand against these evils.
The Practice: NSS units and extension activity programmes train the
students to serve the society and fight social evils.
Frequent programmes are organized to create awareness
of various aspects.
Legal literacy cell & Women Cell create awareness about women empowerment and provide counselling regarding the legal rights of women through an Advocate who is on the panel.
N.C.C. Units remains active throughout the year and gives trainings and instil confidence in the girl students.
Service of many kinds like promoting literacy, creating health awareness, maintaining hygiene and cleanliness etc. are rendered to rural population through camps and campaigns.
The Career Guidance Cell imparts counselling and guidance regarding various career opportunities among students and society.
Programmes like Disaster Management Training, First Aid Training etc. provide the students ability to fight with emergencies and calamities that may befall, and rescue and help their social counterparts during hours of need.
Evidence of Success:
The institution successfully motivates the students to have
increased involvement in social campaigns organized by
Govt. and non-government organizations.
Problems encountered and the Resources required:
Social Resistance- When different Literacy or medical
surveys are conducted, people of the adopted slum areas
show resistance to participate. It is very difficult to
persuade them to come out and attend different Legal
Literacy lectures, Art & Craft workshops, and medical
camps. Even after much effort, not all the women of those
areas participate actively.
Scarcity of Funds- There is hardly any monetary support
from the Govt. or other N.G.Os. to carry out major
development projects, drives, surveys or workshops
during these camps. The volunteers of the N.S.S.unit work
seeking some collaboration of G.Os & N.G.Os.
Administration does not provide active support in
organising these activities and their follow-ups.
Best Practice-II
Title of the Practice: To create maximum scope for practical
knowledge by
giving vocational trainings to students.
Goal: To make the students academically qualified and also
equipped simultaneously with some professional training to
be eligible and employable for different career avenues.
The Practice:
Professional degree: - B.Sc. in Fashion & Textile Designing
has been started in the college to provide a professional
degree to the girl students of this college.
B.Com Computer Vocational: Gives the students an edge
over B.Com General as they become professionally
qualified in Computers and e-learning. They have great
scope for specialised Post Graduation and have better
opportunities in the fields of IT & e-commerce.
Add-on Courses: - Add-on Courses in different genres like
Fashion Designing, Textile Designing, Interior Decoration,
Cosmetology, Diet & Nutrition, Information Technology,
Tally, and Yoga & Functional English are run in the college.
Kurukshetra University provides dual degree to the students
opting these Add-on Course along with their academic
degree. The Add-on Courses have the provision of One-
year Certificate Course, two year Diploma or three year
Advanced Diploma Course.
Short-term workshops on Fabric painting, Glass painting,
Pot painting, Soft-toys making, Mehandi Art, Cookery and
Jam/Jelly/Cake making are organised from time to time.
Gandhian Studies & Research Centre has been running
short-term Certificate Courses of 1,3 &6 months duration on
Cosmetology & Herbal Products, Fabric Designing, Art and
Craft & Cooking.
Nehru Studies & Research centre has been running 3-4
months Certificate on Basics of Computers, Fine Arts
Designing, Textile Designing & Practical thoughts of
Jawahar Lal Nehru.
Yoga classes are often organised in the morning under
qualified Coaches to give the students not only practical
training but also aiming at the development of their
physical, mental and spiritual being.
The athletes and sportsmen are given training of different
games and sports-events under qualified coaches besides
‘Physical education’ being an optional subject so that
students can opt for some career in the field of Sports.
The practical subjects Music Vocal and Music
Instrumental open the avenues in the field of music.
The practical subject of Fine Arts leads to a plethora of
avenues in the field of Arts like Commercial Art, Painting,
Sculpture, Cartoons etc.
Evidence of Success:-
A great number of students have established themselves in
the field of Fashion Designing, Fine Arts, Yoga,
Cosmetology, Sports & IT.
Problems encountered and Resources required: -
Most of the students want to opt for one or more Add-on Courses
but there is time-table constraint. Many of our girl students who
are coming from far-off places or rural areas cannot stay back late
in the evenings for fear of missing their bus or train to their home
place.
Resistance is also faced from their parents sometimes as they have
a narrow minded approach and just want their daughters to
complete the main academic programme with good score and
reach back well in time.
7.4 Contribution to environmental awareness/protection
The Eco and Nature club keeps on making its mark by spreading
awareness about importance of environment and the necessity to
protect it. The students are also actively involved to spread this
awareness among society. Tree plantation camp has been
organized in which different varieties of saplings of herbal,
medicinal and ornamental trees have been planted. The students
were briefed about the way these trees and plants purify the air and
maintain a higher level of ecological balance.
The college campus has a number of trees, shrubs, medicinal
plants, decorative plants, flower pots, a large variety of cactus
plants etc. to promote the healthy environment.
The Waste is converted into manure which is an effort of
sensitization towards environmental protection.
The Water-harvesting through a deep-dug well helps in water-
conservation and maintaining underground water level. During
N.S.S. Camp, the N.S.S. Volunteers planted saplings of trees in the
adopted slum-area also.
7.5 Whether environmental audit was conducted? Yes No
7.6 Any other relevant information the institution wishes to add
After going through the whole exercise of preparing Annual
Quality Assurance Report through collecting data, observations,
analysis and reports from various constituents of the institution,
some of highlights that emerge can be reflected through the
SWOT analysis given below:
Strengths of the Institution:
The institution has very experienced, highly qualified and skilled
teachers who persistently work towards the overall development
of the students. It is under their able guidance that many (more
than 80%) of the students are able to be precise about their clear
objective of life ahead. The teacher and taught have healthy
relationship and strong bonding as small strength in some
subjects and tutorials leads to individual attention. Career
Guidance and Placement Cell always remains active to guide
about suitable opportunities and avenues to the students. Book
bank facility is given to almost all the students. Audio-visual
aids for teaching have always proved as prompters to the
students. The Yoga and Health Centre along with multi-gym
provides sufficient infrastructure, motivation and facilitation to
students to take care of their physical fitness and endurance.
B.Sc. in Fashion Design, PGDCA, B.Com Vocational and Add-
on-Courses are big strides in the direction of Vocational
education.
The Financial assistance to students in the form of scholarships,
stipends etc. helps to encourage the students on merit-cum-
means basis.
Facilities for the convenience of physically challenged students
have been provided e.g. construction of Ramp/suitable
washrooms etc.
The college has purchase a bus to provide transportation
facilities to the students.
Weaknesses
The college faces a little locational disadvantage being on the
outskirts of the city with poor roads and little of ‘government
transport’ facility. The girl students coming from far-off areas
and surrounding rural areas find it difficult and expensive to
approach the Institution.
The girl students have been demanding a Girls-hostel.
More students want transport facility by the college
which has not yet been possible.
To open more P.G. Courses has been the standing
demand of the students and stakeholders.
The College Managing Committee is planning to
improve the commenting faculties for the students.
Opportunities
The College Managing Committee is planning to
purchase a Bus to facilitate the transportation of the
students and staff in near future.
The construction of Girls Hostel has been started.
Efforts will be directed towards opening more courses
in the college.
Threats
The number of the students is difficult to raise because of some of the
factors given below:
1. Opening of a new Govt. Women College in the city where the
students don’t have to pay fees etc.
2. Poor condition of the Approach Road.
3. Locational disadvantages.
8. Plans of the Institution for the Next Year
1. Completion of the Shooting Range.
2. Construction of Girls Hostel.
3. Completion of Ramp leading to Commerce Block/Computer
Labs/Music labs & Library
4. Running of college bus on more routes to facilitate the
transportation of students coming from rural areas, villages and
places a little far from the Institution.
5. Establishment of Additional Computer Lab annexed to Library
6. Extension of Library: Adding a separate wing (fully furnished)
