“The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.” – Dolly Parton

This week we explore the virtue of moderation. Moderation is creating balance in our

lives between work, rest, play and exercise. It is having or doing something – not too

much, not too little, but what’s just right for us. If we study all the time or play all the time,

it is not being moderate. Moderation is being in charge of our own time and using self

discipline to keep from doing too much or too little. Please consider discussing being

moderate with your child[ren] this week.

Today marks the end of another fifty days of learning and what a great way to

celebrate by acknowledging the efforts and excellence of our learners via our online

Assembly of Excellence. Our learners consistently demonstrate amazing resilience and

have accommodated the changes this year as a natural part of their learning. This

morning’s Assembly of Excellence Online recognised our 100% Attenders and Highest

Attending Classe, our Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum Behaviour Awards, each Class

and Specialist Teachers’ 5R Awards and the Term Three PAWS Reading Awards. Three

draws were also made for the Parkhurst Parents and Citizens’ Association’s Voluntary

Contribution Program. All winners have been contacted. Congratulations.

On Tuesday this week, the Hon Brittany Lauga, our State Member for Keppel and

Assistant Education Minister was onsite to ‘turn the sod’ and officially launch the

construction of our multi-million dollar Learning Centre. Driving past, you may have

noticed the bunting in place that outlines the construction site. This project has been

many years in the making, with initial conversations taking part ten years ago. Recently,

when a parcel of land adjacent to the school was purchased four years ago, planning

commenced for this facility, a new Administration Building and Tuckshop. The Learning

Centre is a thirty six week build and is scheduled for occupancy in May 2021. A big

thank you is once again extended to our Project Managers, GHD, Architects, DesignTek

and the Construction Company, Paynters.

Just a reminder to all families that learning for Term Four resumes on Tuesday October

06th 2020, with the Monday being the Queen’s Birthday Holiday. Over the break, any

changes to current COVID-19 restrictions will be shared via email and social media. If

you are heading away to explore our amazing state of Queensland, travel safe and

enjoy the opportunities it may bring for you and your family.

2020 is our year to Lead, Teach,

Learn and Live like a PIRATE.

‘PIRATE’ is an acronym to

remind us all to learn with

passion, be inquisitive,

demonstrate our 5Rs, be active,

think creatively, critically and

reflectively and be enthusiastic.

In 2020, learning like a pirate will

underpin our learning and

remind us to look for the treasure

in every moment. We we will

continue to recognise our

weekly Pirates of the Week

through our Assembly Online.

Congratulations go out to this week’s ‘Parkhurst

Pirates’ who have …

‐ demonstrated passion for their learning

‐ have been inquisitive

‐ displayed the 5Rs (respect, responsibility, rigour,

resilience and relationships)

‐ being active learners

‐ thinkers

‐ showing enthusiasm

The selection process for our 2021 Student Leaders

has commenced. On Thursday, all current Year Five

learners met with Mr Walker to learn about the

Accreditation Process, including the completion of

the ‘Blue Card’ that verifies a number of key criteria

required for selection.

All learners wishing to be considered for Leadership

Roles will have the opportunity to address their

peers on Tuesday November 17th 2020. Should

COVID-19 restrictions be lifted by this date, we will

encourage all parents and carers to attend. Should

this not be possible a recording will be securely

uploaded to our YouTube Channel for later viewing.

A big thank you is extended to Mrs Alison

Worthington and Ms Tanisha Bickey for their work

behind the scenes.

Our Oval Walk has begun from 8:45 a.m. to 8:55

a.m., ensuring that every learner participates in

moderate physical activity that raises the heart rate.

There is a requirement that at least 30 minutes of

physical activity is provided for every learner every

day through Physical Education Lessons, Sport and

Smart Moves. Thank you to all Staff who regularly

assist. Great job and thank you !

Student Banking is every Friday.

This program provides all

learners with an opportunity to

regularly deposit funds to their

DollarMite Accounts. For every

deposit, the school receives a

small commission. If your

child[ren] wish to start banking

this Term, please contact the

Office for information.

Our PAWS Reading Program has

started again this Term. Please

contact Ms Stace if you have any

questions regarding PAWS. Don’t

forget to email PAWS if you have

any questions or would like to

share a photo of you reading at

home. PAWS’ email is [email protected].

–School photos are almost upon us again. The

school has engaged MSP Photography to create

our school records this year and you are invited

to purchase prints of your child[ren]. Our Photo

Day was rescheduled from Term Three due to

COVID-19.

On Photo Day, every student will be

photographed regardless of whether you are

purchasing or not. Your child[ren] will bring home

a personalised order envelope from the

photographers. Please take care to read and

follow all the instructions carefully. This will ensure

your order is processed smoothly and efficiently

and will help you to avoid any late fees.

You will have the option to order online or with

cash in your child[ren]’s envelope. Please take

care to follow the instructions carefully.

Additional order envelopes will be available

from the School Office for separated parents,

blended families and grandparents. You will

need to collect these on or before Photo Day

and give it to the photographer on Photo Day.

Be sure to write ‘Mum’s Order’ or ‘Dad’s Order’

on top of your envelope.

COVID 19 NOTICE

Due to the current social distancing health

directive proscribed by law, school

photographers are obligated to social distance

from all students, school staff and parents/carers

whilst visiting your school. This is a hard and fast

rule that we cannot break or bend. As a result of

this requirement, it means that we have had to

remove any traditional group photos (including

sibling photos) from our offerings until such time

as social distancing requirements are lifted. We

are truly sorry for any disappointment that this

causes and appreciate your understanding that

these circumstances are outside of our control.

As school staff are unable to help with

photography enquiries or payments, please

direct your questions and comments directly to

MSP Photography by phoning 07 4921 3355 or

email [email protected]

Thank you for working with us through these

unusual times and we look forward to a great

photo day. Keep smiling.

Every Parkhurst State School Staff

Member has an email address and

can be used to make contact using

this mode. These email addresses

are on our school website at Staff

Contacts

We encourage all families to make

contact with the school to update their

current contact details, including

Telephone Numbers, Email Addresses

and Emergency Contacts. At the end

of each Semester, please consider taking a few

minutes to check that your details are current and up

to date on our system. A form is available to assist with

this process.

Parkhurst State School proudly offers an annual

Swimming Program for all learners from Prep to Year

Six. Information was sent out to all families this week

regarding the program and payments. Our Prep to

Year Three Learners will swim in class groups at the

Caribeae Swim School, and will be transported by

bus. All payments can be made to Caribeae directly.

Our learners in Years Four to Six will once again swim

at the Central Queensland University Sports Centre.

Mr David Johnson and Mr Lachlan O’Keefe are

Austswim Accredited Swimming Instructors and will

facilitate the program with Class Teachers and a

Teacher Aide. This Program will occur on Fridays in

class groups in lieu of Friday InterSchool Sport. The

Year 4-6 Swimming Program will culminate with our

annual Swimming Carnival in Week Nine.

A big thank you is extended to Mr David Johnson, Mrs

Chris Olive and Mrs Elizabeth Nugent for all of their

work in preparing both of these programs for

commencement in Term Four.

Parkhurst State School Jump Rope

for Heart Jump Off Days were held

next week as a conclusion to the

Program and to celebrate and

demonstrate the skills learnt and

health knowledge gained. Thank you Mr David

Johnson for your work in making this happen.

The School’s Leadership Team is currently working

with our Regional Human Resource Team to

accurately determine our 2021 staffing requirements

based on our predicted learner enrolments. If you are

leaving Parkhurst State School at the end of the year

or know someone who is intending to enrol with us,

we need to know as soon as possible so this

information can be taken into account.

All parents and carers once again have an

opportunity to provide specific information to assist in

the placement of learners to classes in 2021.

This is not an opportunity for parents and carers to

request specific teachers, just as Classroom Teachers

are not able to request specific learners to be or not

to be in their class[es]. It is however an opportunity for

parents and carers to provide specific information to

guide our Teacher Teams to make informed decisions

to ensure the full range of learners’ needs are

considered and catered for.

A template is included in this week’s Newsletter and

future Newsletters. Copies are also available from the

Office for those families wishing to provide such

information. The deadline for the return of all forms will

be Friday November 06th 2020 with no exceptions this

year.

working towards going ‘cashless’ in 2021, with online

and cashless transactions being the preferred

methods.

temperature. In as little as five minutes, the

temperature in a vehicle can reach dangerous levels.

The impact of heat on a child's body is almost

immediate and can be fatal. A child's body

temperature rises three to five times faster than an

adult's, placing them at greater risk.

It only takes one shortcut on safety to have

devastating, lifelong consequences. Importantly, if

you accidentally lock your child in a car or you come

across a child left unattended in a vehicle :

1. Keep calm

2. Think clearly and act quickly

3. all your roadside assistance provider if you have

one

4. Call 000 immediately if you have any concerns

about the child's health.

PARKHURST STATE SCHOOL

Parkhurst State School proudly offers a range of classroom structures with a clear goal to place all

learners in environments that best suit their individual learning needs. Class structures are determined

by the number of learners in a Year Level, the ability to provide capacity for enrolment growth and

meeting the class size targets of twenty five students in Prep to Year Three classes and twenty eight

students in Years Four to Six. It is envisaged that our 2021 Learning Neighbourhoods and related Class

Structures will be communicated towards the end of Term Four.

The purpose of this form is to provide all parents and carers with an opportunity to outline any

specific information regarding their child[ren] that will assist in their placement in classes in 2020.
