INT. DENIS'S HOUSE - DAY

Two story messy house. Living Room we see a small TV with anantennae coming out. The TV has the Boston Celtics playing.Shot turns to the couch where DENIS (17 years old) is sittingholding a beer and bag of chips. Next to him is his dad, Mr.O'Neil (42 years old) reclined back in a chair. Denis getsup and heads to the kitchen.

MR O'NEILHey can you grab me a another?

DENISYa the Bruins are playing theCanadiens at 7:30. Me and the boysare going to the game.

Mrs. O'Neil(40 years old) comes in. She has long curly redhair walks down the stairs carrying a laundry basket

MRS. O'NEILWill just called. Do you guys haveplans for tonight?

DENISYa were gonna grab some food at O'DaysPlace and head to the hockey game.

MRS. O'NEILWell you boys be careful. There alwaysseems to be trouble when you hangoutwith him.

Knock at the front door. Its Denis's friend Will (17 yearsold)

DENISAll right I'll see ya guys

MR O'NEILYo. Stay cool out there. No fightsall right. Don't get that Irish bloodof yours too boozed up.

DENISSure thing Pops

The mom comes back into the scene after Denis walks out ofthe living room

MRS. O'NEILDid you talk to him about the layoff?

Dad with an agitated face gives her a silent wave motion tokeep quiet.

MR O'NEILYeah right. Have a good time andtell your buds I said hi.

DENISAll right

Denis grabs a couple beers for the road and walks out thefront door.

MR O'NEILNows not the time. He's going out tohave a good time with his friends.

EXT- DENIS'S HOUSE -- DAY

Will's outside leaning on his Mustang. Will puts his handsup in a catching motion for one of the beers in Denis's hands.Denis throws him a beer

WILLWe gotta pick up Ben and Matt

DENISWell shit in that case. Hold on fora sec.

He goes back into the house and emerges with the rest of thecase of beer. They tear off screeching the tires.

EXT - WILL'S DRIVING SCENE IN THE MUSTANG WITH DENIS --CONTINUOUS

Will is driving his mustang to pick up Ben and Matt. He isflying around showing Denis how fast and good he can drive.

WILLHold onto your beer sally

Will punches on the gas and Denis flies back against theseat somewhat startled. The scene shifts from a straightaway to a winding road and Will hits the bends with greatacceleration. They come to the end of the bend to anotherstraight away where Will reaches high speeds. They pass asubdivision on their left.

DENISJeez man your nuts we got beers inhere. You passed the turn.

Will pulls a 180 degree donut to go back the other direction.The camera shifts to Denis's face who's just smiling. Willlooks over and is smiling too.The car pulls up to a house.

DENIS (CONT'D)That car's gonna fucking kill you

WILLKill... No. Jail... Yes. But I ain'tscared. You guys'll bail me out.Right after you find lucky's pot ofgold at the end of the fuckingrainbow. Why you gotta be so negative.

DENISYou are insane, I hope you know that.

WILLJust ring the fucking doorbell. Yourkilling any buzz I was gettin.

Denis knocks on the door and Ben's sister answers. Shes 16and very beautiful. Denis looks her over wide eyed

DENIS (CONT'D)Wut up gorgeous?

She Giggles and smiles and looks down then looks back up atDenis

JENNIFERHey Denis wuts up?

DENISGoin to the hockey game tonight.Bruins and Canadiens. Its gonna behuge. You should come with.

Shot shifts to Will who sees Denis talking to Jennifer andhe chuckles.

JENNIFERYa that would be fun but I don'tthink Ben would want to hang outwith me and his friends.

DENISWhy? You're cool

JENNIFERHaha. Well cause he probably actsdifferent with his friends than withhis sister and you boys would have abetter time.

DENISI wouldn't have a better time.

She smiles

JENNIFERhaha. Maybe some other time

BEN (17 years old) comes over to the door to see whats goingon

EXT- OUTSIDE OF BEN'S HOUSE -- CONTINUOUS

Denis is still looking at Jennifer and shes looking back athim. Then Ben and Matt walk out to the front door and saylets go.

JENNIFERI'll see ya at school.

DENISYa ok.

Our boys pack into the Mustang and Denis sits up front.

Will gets ready to respond

DENISAll right lets go girls its gettinglate.

INT- O'DAYS PUB AND EATERY -- AFTERNOON

O'Days place is an Irish pub and eatery. The hostess haslong curly red hair and is a friend of the boys. The guyswalk in.

DENISHey there she is. How we doin Jess?

JESSICADenis. Hi. Oh wow the whole crewshere.Looks like trouble.

WILLSure is. We just need to get ourenergy first.

JESSICAYou know we got a new special sixcourse dinner going that'll give yaa kick.

WILLNow that's what I'm talking. Realman like me needs six courses.

JESSICAOne baked potato and five draft beers.

Denis laughs and they follow Jess as she leads them to theirtable. They all sit down. Denis, Will, Ben, and Matt

JESSICA (CONT'D)Someone will be out to serve youshortly.

DENISHey Jess can you bring us all a roundof beers.

JESSICAYou guys got IDs?

DENISNaw. We're going to the Bruin gameand only wanted to have a couple. Wegot a Designated Driver.

JESSICAAll right I'll bring out three beersbut if anyone asks, you showed meyour IDs.

WILLMan, why'd you have to blurt out thewhole DD thing dude. She might nothave even asked.

DENISCause the way you drive that fuckingcar. I'm sure as hell not getting inthere if you've had even one, yaneed for speed psycho. Where thehell are we? Daytona.

Denis looks at Matt and Ben

DENIS (CONT'D)Hey guys lookie here we get to eatdinner with Jeff Gordon.

Matt and Ben start laughing.

Will dangles his keys in the air.

WILL (CONT'D)Don't ever piss off the driver thatsthe first rule. Now you can passover your beer when it comes unlessyou feel like walkin to the game.

Jessica brings over three beers and places them down. Mattpasses his over to Will.

Will takes a sip and makes a ahhh sound showing how deliciousthe beer is in front of Matt.

BENMan this game is gonna be sweet.Both teams are fighting for the topspot in the East.

MATTYa, the Bruins are looking like theteam of old champions again.

BENIt's all about getting a hotgoaltender going into the playoffs.If Moog or Lemelin can get on a rolegoing in we're set.

DENISHockey man. It's just so fast andintense. I wish I would've played.

WILLIt's an awesome sport but ya gottaknow how to really skate.

A waiter comes up to there table and they order

DENISWoh, Woh, wait up. Medium well. Myas well just order it overcooked andchewy. Ya gotta go rare with theblood coming out. That's the onlyway to eat a steak.

WILLI'll get steaks the way I want themand you can get your steaks raw,Mufasa.

DENISI guarantee mine's gonna be better

EXT- LEAVING O'DAYS PLACE -- EVENING

They all get into the Mustang and take off for the game.Will drives.

INT- WILL'S MUSTANG -- NIGHT

The boys are driving through the downtown portion of theIrish neighborhood.

BENI predict the scores gonna be 4 to 1Bruins.

MATTNaw its gonna be a close game. 3 to2 Bruins in overtime.

BENThink there's gonna be any fights?

MATTHell ya, this is one of the mostheated rivalry's in the NHL.

BENDamn I'm pumped. Let's go.

Matt starts to sing Go Speed Racer Go Speed Racer Go SpeedRacer Goooooooo. Then he shifts to the nanananananana BatMan music. Ben starts following along. (Will steps on it andis weaving in and out of turns hauling ass).Denis is silentand is looking out the passenger side window. As the cartravels past a local Irish convenient store. Denis sees thestore being robbed by three black men.

DENISQuiet. Pull over.

WILLGoddammit.And the pisses beginalready.

DENISI don't gotta piss ya jackass. Ijust saw Debby's place gettin heldup by three guys.

WILLSo what, shit happens. We're gonnamiss the faceoff. We spent a lot onthese tickets man.

BENYa. It's getting late lets just keepgoing. We can call the cops on theway and let them know.

DENISIt was three black guys.

MATTWhat the fuck are they doing in ourpart of town?

WILLRobbing us. Mother fucker. Thatchanges things. Debby's a good lady.It wasn't her in there was it?

DENISNaw, it looked like a guy to me.They were throwing him around prettygood though.

WILLSo what do we do? These guys aregonna be strapped. I ain't dying forthis shit.

DENISPull around back and I'll go checkit out. There's windows out front.

EXT- MUSTANG IS PULLED OVER BEHIND THE STORE NEAR AN ALLEYTHAT LEADS TO THE FRONT OF THE STORE.

Denis gets out of the car and sneaks through the side alleyto the front of the store. The store is decorated with thenormal convenient store advertisements but there is also alot of shamrocks and Irish decoration. Its tough to seeclearly into the store.

INT- MUSTANG -- MOMENTS LATER

WILLWhat the fuck are these monkeys doingtakin down a small mom and pop Irishstore a good twenty fucking milesaway from the projects?

BENMaybe its just a solo job. You know,no affiliation with the Crips.

WILLNaw not in this town, Benny. Youdon't make a move or take a shitwithout making damn sure it's safe.Else you end up floating down theDan.

Denis gets back into the car.

DENISOk. There's three of them. Two aregetting the money and a third has agun drawn on the clerk. Matt, callthe cops. Heres what I got so far.We gonna have to take down the onewith the gun first.

BENWoh, woh. I don't know if we shouldget involved. Maybe we should justcall the cops

WILLAnd let these hoodlums come into ourtown and take our friend. You knowthe cops aren't gonna get here fastenough.

Will pops his trunk and goes around back and gets a baseballbat. He plays baseball.Denis gets out too and Ben and Mattfollow.

MATTSo what are we gonna do about theguy with the gun?

DENISThe plan is we gotta take that guydown first. That's Will's job.

MATTBut hows he gonna know which guythat comes out has the gun.

Denis goes around front and hides behind the ice machine andlooks into the store again. He sees that there is a backentrance and sees that the guy with the gun is looking aroundout front and towards the back. He then goes back to theboys.

DENISOk. So we gotta assume they're gonnago out the back. That's where theircar is parked. So we'll have Willhide behind a crate or something andhave him take out the guy with thegun.

WILLYa that all sounds nice but how am Igoin know which one to hit?

DENISWere gonna spread out and sendsignals.

MATTWhat do you mean?

DENISIm gonna stand out front behind theice machine so I can see inside.I'll be able to see the order thatthe guys leave. I'll see in whichposition the guy with the gun isleaving and then I'll put up thatnumber of fingers. If its the firstguy I'll put up one and so on. Mattwill be farther down from me rightat the beginning of the ally andhe'll pass the signal on to Ben andBen you pass it on to you.

WILLSo whatever number of fingers thatBen raises up is the guy I take out.

DENISYa and then we all converge on them.

BENI don't like it. What happens ifthey change position after you can'tsee them anymore just as there leavingthe back door. Will's taking a bullet.

DENISYou come up with somethin better letus know. But we gotta go now getinto your positions.

They all scatter out to different places. Denis takes hisspot out front and looks at the guys in the store.

INT- CONVENIENT STORE -- MOMENTS LATER

Robber 1 ( 30's) gathers up the cash into a big bag. Robber2 (30s) has the gun pointed at the clerk. Robber 3 (30s) ismoving around the store checking things out destroying thevideo footage. He goes outside to look around and make surethe coast is clear.They tie the clerk up and put somethingin his mouth so he can't speak.

ROBBER 1Hurry up lets go.

Robber 2 goes out front and sees a car go by. The car slowsdown as it passes the store and puts its break lights on.

ROBBER 2We gotta go now.

ROBBER 3Move

Robber 3 has the gun and starts to go out the back.

ROBBER 3 (CONT'D)Come on.

ROBBER 2No lets go out the front.

ROBBER 3The cars out back

ROBBER 2There could be an alarm on that backdoor lets go.

He leaves out the front first and the other two follow. Denisdoesn't give any signal. He waits for them to leave past himand then runs over to the boys.Dennis waves over the otherguys.

DENISThey went out the front

The sound of a car engine starting and taking off. The boysturn and see a Lincoln Towncar speeding off.

WILLHere we go.

Heads over to his Mustang and the boys quickly follow himand pile in. Music starts Korn - Are You Ready To Live

EXT- CHASE SEQUENCE -- CONTINUOUS

The Mustang catches up to the Lincoln and is following behinda pretty far distance. The Lincoln tries to lose them andsoon they discover there being followed.

DENISYo Matt call the cops. Keep themposted to our position. All we gottado is keep them in sight till theyshow up.

Matt calls the police up and the phone and keeps the operatorposted. Will shows off his impeccable driving skills onceagain. The Lincoln can't shake them. After awhile the copscatch up to them and force the Lincoln to stop. No damage isdone to the car and no one is hurt in the chase. The boysstop to talk to the cops and then continue on there way tothe Bruin game.

EXT- INTERSECTION OF STREETS -- EVENING

POLICE OFFICERYou the boys that called in therobbery?

DENISYes sir. Just doin our duty as anycaring citizen would do.

The officer goes up and shakes Denis's hand

POLICE OFFICERWell good work and thanks a lot.

DENISKina strange to be seein these kinafolk out here huh?

POLICE OFFICERYa probably gang related but we'llsee after the investigation. We'llkeep you posted

INT- WILL'S MUSTANG ON THE WAY TO THE BRUIN GAME -- LATER

WILLWow man that was crazy. What thehell were those nigs doin in ourtown?

DENISI don't know.

`WILLI bet Sullivan might have some idea.

INT- BRUIN HOCKEY GAME AGAINST THE CANADIENS -- LATER

Our boys have great seats behind the Canadien Goal and they'llall got beers.

Denis is working in the cart area cleaning out the carts andgathering them up as members drop them off.

Denis takes his cart and drives back into the storage shed.

EXT- BEHIND THE CART SHOP -- CONTINUOUS

Scene shifts to Will's Mustang pulling up out of sight ofthe cart shed. Will gets out and sneaks up, he's got twogolf balls in his hands and hides behind a bush. He seesDennis walking out front and throws them both over.

WILLFOUR!!!

Denis looks up and then covers his head. Two balls drop downon the concrete right next to him.

DENISJesus! Who the hell?

He starts scanning around trying to make out where the ballscame from.

Will pops out Laughing at Denis

WILLHaha.

DENISI shoulda known it was your goofyass. That shit almost hit me.

WILLNo where near you sissy.

Denis goes back into the cart shed and starts moving thecarts around. Will walks up to him

WILL (CONT'D)Went to go see Sullivan today.

DENISOh ya? What he have to say?

WILLSaid it was a solo project. Isolatedaway from the crews.

DENIS True. I'm almost done here, then wecan go up to the club for some food.

EXT-HIGH SCHOOL -- DAY

Students are shuffling into the school.Scene then shifts toDenis and the boys sitting at a table in the cafeteria.

BENYou see Erika today. Holy shit!

MATTYa she's looking pretty hot.

Scene then shifts over to the girls table where a group ofgorgeous girls are eating lunch.

Denis and Will sit down. They look around and shoot glancesover to the hot girls table.

DENISAw man! Todays fucking sloppy joes.That stuff sucks. Something aboutthat sauce that gives me the shits.

WILLAmen to that.

DENISLet's go get some burgers off campus.

BENIm down.

They get to leave the cafeteria and walk out to the parkinglot. Where they discover Will's Mustang shattered. All thewindows have been smashed in and the hood has been smashedin by what looks like a baseball bat.

MATTWhat the fuck?

BENI thought those guys got locked up.

DENISThey did but they got a good look atthe vehicle and got the word out totheir buddies. I knew that job wasn'tjust some free lancers bullshitinaround. Looks like the blacks aremaking moves.

DENISAfter this its time something getsdone.

BENThats what the cops are for.

MATTIf they can find any evidence orfingerprints. If not, there's no wayin hell their gonna find out who'sresponsible. Its pretty tough justto go off possible motives.

EXT- PARKING LOT WHERE WILL'S CAR IS SMASHED -- LATER

Cops and a detective (40s)arrive at the scene and do an indepth investigation. They take fingerprints and forensicslooks over the crime scene. They tell Will there going toinvestigate and get back to him.

DETECTIVE 1Hi guys. How we doin? Not too good Iguess.

WILLThats right.

DETECTIVEBet this baby flew.

DETECTIVE 1Ya. Well were gonna do everything wecan to find out who did this son.

EXT- O'DAYS PLACE -- NIGHT

Denis pulls his pick up truck into the parkinglot. Will andDenis get out of the car and walk into O'Days Place.

INT- O'DAYS PLACE -- MOMENTS LATER

They meet a hostess and she looks over to Sullivan ( mid20s) who waves them on to come join them at a table. Theysit down.

SULLIVAN

(To Hostess)Two cokes for the fellows please.

HOSTESSComing up.

SULLIVANYou look pretty good for a guy thatgoes around chasing crips. You mustbe pretty young.

WILLI am. But that don't mean I takenobody's shit.

WILL (CONT'D)This is my buddy Denis. He was therewhen Debby's place got hit.

DENISYou have strict punishments underthe law.

The boys are eating lunch. Matt and Ben are talking but Denisis eating in silence and seems to be in a glum mood. ThenMatt and Ben stop talking and start eating in silence.

BENOh my gosh man. There's no way thosetits are real?

Matt and Ben stop talking and Denis is eating in silence.Matt and Ben then start to eat in silence too for awhile.

WILLYo ladies, why's everyone so goddamnglum. Check this out.

Will takes his plastic spoon and loads it with some applesauceand flicks it at a group of nerdy kids and it hits one rightin the face getting all over his glasses and stuff. Everyonebut Denis laughs. Denis gets up with some napkins and goesover to the nerdy kid and hands him the napkins.

DENISHere you go, sorry about that.

KIDYeah right.

(grabs the napkins)

Denis then walks out and leaves the cafeteria. Ben and Mattlook at Will. Will gets up and walks out of the cafeteria

WILLYo man wuts up? You ok?

DENISWhy you gotta pick on those new kids?

They all take their shots. After he finishes his first shothe takes down the other two one right after the other. Theguys give a little cheer. The camera zooms up to the glasses and when they pull awaythe scene fast forwards to Denis's going away party at O'Daysplace and instead of beer its coca cola in the glasses becausefamily is there.

All the boys are gathered around at a table. Denis's parentsare there. Ben's family is there including his sisterJennifer. Three more hispanic kids jump up from the table toward Denis.Denis takes out the first one who came up by himself and isstarted on the other two. He is outnumbered two to one atthis point. The next two are more systematic in how theyapproach Denis. Just as Denis is about to get hit by thesecond kid he is fighting the three white kids sitting atthe table get up and join him in the struggle.

They take down all the hispanic kids in the fight. At thispoint everyone in the cafeteria is watching and at the endit gets silent. Four of the hispanic kids are down rollingaround in pain and anguish.

Denis picks the team out and the game begins. A crowd startsto gather. On one of the plays one of the blacks rushingthe quarterback places a late hit on Denis and hits him hardfrom the back. He gets up and looks at the guy.

I see a lot of faces around here. Faces that appear on edge, nervous,and jumpy. Faces that have to walkaround at times looking at the groundto avoid eye contact with the wrongperson. Kyle walks around and eventually sees the crew in the gymplaying basketball and chilling on the bleachers. He decidesto stay on them and will stay in communication with the otherguys via a cell phone. The final bell RINGS and they leavethe gym. They decide to keep playing and walk over to theoutside courts.

Denis proceeds to get another beer and theres no change inhis facial expression. Then he switches to a inquisitivelook upon himself.

DENISI recognize that voice.

Denis walks into the dining room.

DENIS (CONT'D)No way? What the hell is this?

Will gets up and walk over to Denis and they shake hands.

WILLSurprise man. What's up buddy?

Denis is smiling now.

Will smiles. He goes to sit back down in his seat and Denissits down in his.

Will becomes silent for a bit. Denis turns to get into thecar. He gets in and hears the door behind him close too.

EXT- BASE WAREHOUSE -- NIGHT

Denis, Brandon, and Will arrive at the base warehouse.Thewindows are smashed and three of the guys are badly beaten.

DENISDamn they really trashed this place.You guys ok? You need to go to thehospital?

ONE OF THE BEATEN GUYS It's nothing too serious just bruisesand stuff.

Theres a crowd that has gathered. The crowd is furious andready to make a retaliatory strike.

DENISI know we are all very angry. Theresa lot of damage but the injuries arenot severe. INT- HANGAR OF THE WAREHOUSE -- LATER

Loading up the van with baseball bats and masks.

EXT - IN FRONT OF THE WAREHOUSE -- MOMENTS LATER

They pack the van with about ten guys and Brandon is driving.

EXT- HAITIAN HOUSE BASE -- LATER

They roll up to the Haitian base and get out a brawl ensuesand Will gets involved.

EXT- IN FRONT OF THE HAITIAN HOUSE -- CONTINUOUS

One of the Haitian kids at the base, JAMAL is a very youngkid only about 13 years old. He gets his teeth knocked out.The older brother, DARYL ( mid 20s) arrives on the scenelate and finds his brother with his teeth knocked out.

Daryl rushes off inside and sees his younger brother withhis teeth knocked out and bleeding bad from his mouth.

DARYLMother fuckers are dead. Centurasget him to a hospital now.

EXT- DARYL IS DRIVING -- MOMENTS LATER

He becomes infuriated loads his gun and gets in his car andspeeds off to catch up with the guys who did this. He knowsa shortcut and speeds up very fast to a point where he knowsthe van will have to pass to go back to their base.

EXT- CORNER STREET -- NIGHT

He goes there and gets on top of his car and takes out hispistol ready to fire. He sees the van coming up and startsto shoot.

INT- VAN -- CONTINUOUS

DENISDown

They all get down and Brandon steps on the gas to get awayfrom the shooter.

DENIS (CONT'D)Everybody ok?

Denis looking around. Will got shot in the chest and isgasping for air. The bullet hit him in the center of thechest and he is having trouble breathing. Denis sees thisand jumps in the back of the car to be with his friend.

DENIS (CONT'D)Oh no. Get to University hospital asfast as possible.

WILLDenis?

DENISYa?

WILLYou're my best friend. And whateverhappens it's not your fault. Samething coulda happened to you whenyou were there for me. I want you toknow that.

DENISDon't talk. Rest. Everything's gonnabe fine. We got the best hospitalsaround. We'll be there soon. Justhold on.

Will gives him a smile and puts his hand up. Denis takesahold of his hand and holds onto it tight. Will has a paleclamy look about him.

Brandon steps on the gas and hangs a quick right.

EXT- IN FRONT OF HOSPITAL -- LATER

They arrive at the hospital.

INT- INSIDE HOSPITAL -- MOMENTS LATER

Denis rushes into the hospital carrying Will in his arms. Atthis point musics starts to play and no more words can beheard. The shot shifts from color to black and white orsomething that would simulate what Will would be experiencing. We can see Denis talking and shouting for a doctor. But nowords can be heard.

Music starts playing. The scene shifts to Nurses coming upto him with a stretcher and they lay him down on thestretcher. Two doctors rush up to him and take the stretcherand rush him into the operating room. Denis follows andthey tell him he must stay outside. Doors close on him asthey rush Will back into the OR. He stands at the door andwatches Will get taken away knowing that will be the lasttime he will see his friend. Denis falls down in agony onthe floor and is screaming his lungs out. He cannot bear thepain. The music is still playing.

INT- HOSPITAL WAITING ROOM -- LATER

Denis is in a hospital waiting room. His parents come intothe room. He is still teary eyed. They all embrace and startanguishing in pain. Words start to be hear. Denis' is givinga narration to the audience but is not saying them. He isthinking them.

V.O. DENIS You know its funny how people cangive you the best advice in the worldand you let it pass through bothears. The sort of advice that comesfrom people who have lived theexperience. But hey, you'll dowhat I did. Live through it yourself.

Denis sits alone and looks around at all the different typesof people in the lunchroom who are ignoring him. He eats hislunch.
