Here it can be seen that the album cover
has been placed in the bottom right corner of the
advertisement featuring
Rihanna in a close up shot
closing her eyes with the
title ‘LOUD’ below her
face.
Here, the audience can identify the artists’ name as it is presented in a capital lettering style at the top of the advert. Also, Rihanna is
recognisable since her full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty yet fans and the public know her as her middle name Rihanna.
This line of text identifies the fact that Rihanna has successful songs in this album which are already recognisable to the public so will entice fans and the target audience to buy this album. Also, people outside of the target audience may know these songs, like them, and therefore purchase the album too.
We know that ‘Loud’ is the name of the album because it features the same lettering style as the artist name.

It can be seen from the main image that this is a singer of the pop/r&b genre because of the outfit choice (specifically the rose ring) and sunglasses. The image of Rihanna takes up the whole page which suggests all the attention is on the artist and she is a bold character.
The colour scheme used is girly, indicating that the target audience is
young women/teens.

• I used Google to find out which font was used on Rihanna’s ‘Loud’ album
and found the website ‘www.dafont.com’ which was able to identify it as Helvetica Neue 23 Ultra
Light Extended.
Sophie Skinner
This displays the artist’s name in a bold, white capital lettering style in order to contrast against the blue sky background and stand out as this is the first thing the eyes are drawn towards.
This image shows the artist (Lana Del Ray) with a stern face and vintage look. Her head is held high in this
image which displays signs of power and confidence along with the stern/ serious facial expressions Lana is showing. The image also has a bright
and summery theme which is
Blue skies is a connotation of calmness/ positive vibes.

Here, we see the album title ‘BORN TO DIE’ in the same capital lettering style but in a larger font than the information
underneath it yet smaller than the artist's name to show its key significance on the advertisement. The font is blue which
synchronises with the vintage colour scheme of blue and white.
Displaying the website at the bottom of the
page entices the target audience to look for more and therefore builds a bigger fan base.
This is the album release date which is
essential for the advertisement and
allows the target audience to find out
when it will be available to purchase
and listen to.
Placing the amazon.com logo here indicates to the audience that this is where the album can be purchased online. This logo is recognisable and therefore people can identify this clearly.
Sophie Skinner
The colour scheme is simplistic and natural in a sense that death is natural therefore
reinforces the fact that we are ‘born to die’.
In conclusion, this album advert looks as though it would be
placed in a music magazine and fall into the indie genre. There
are no connotations of r&b, pop, rock etc. in the style of
this advertisement and the look of the artist therefore this

• I used Google to find out which font was used on Lana Del Rey’s ‘Born To Die’ album and found the website ‘www.dafont.com’ which was able to suggest the fonts ‘Steelfish’, ‘Empire’ and ‘ITC Roswell’.
• Personally, I think the font is Steelfishby Ray Larabie. It seems the rainbow font which is identified on other sites is fan based and is not the exact font Lana uses.

The font style is coherently used and works well to stand out against the white background therefore is eye-catching to the audience. The same font is used throughout his work as displayed in the examples.
It is evident that there is a key colour scheme of black white and red/orange for the advert which is reinforced through using a black and white image.
This is the album release date

This line of text identifies the fact that Olly has a number 1 single in his album and so is more recognisable to the public.
Sophie Skinner
• The target audience for this magazine is mostly young girls due to the fact that Olly Murs can be seen as an ‘attractive’ young man with a great personality therefore singing in the pop genre will make his music and this advertisement appeal to people interested in pop music which is usually young girls/teens.
This is the artist’s name which is usually presented at the top of the advertisement as
seen here.

• The track listing for Rihanna’s digipak carries out the same light pink colour scheme as the disc does which reinforces the target audience being females. Furthermore, the image used on the back of the album here is not as explicit as the other images featured in the album artwork which makes her seem vulnerable and not as attention seeking as compared to the front cover.
• The delicacy of the colours used
is a nice selection and the thin strip
of the red rose down the side of the
track listing (left to the image of
Rihanna) contrasts nicely to keep the
audience aware that the album is
‘Loud’ and attention grabbing just
like the artist.
Sophie Skinner
• The main colour of the disc is baby pink which makes the album look girly and therefore appeal to the target audience. Light pink colours have connotations of love therefore this suggests along with the image of the rose that the tracks of the album will be based around love. The same font typeface is used on the CD disc as throughout the album as well as the song titles specifically situated around the inside circle of the disc.
Sophie Skinner
Blue skies is a continued theme in order to show that
calmness and happiness is a theme
throughout the album. The red colour scheme used on the digipak, in
relation to Lana’s red hair and lips, may
signify a connotation of lustThe CD features a colour scheme of
black, white and red. The disc has a white background with an mage of three roses entering the circumference from different angles. The dominance of the red against the white colour is powerful and relates to the front image and title born to die. Flowers are often seen at funerals which is suggested through the title including the word die, therefore roses are relative throughout the album
Sophie Skinner
The first song on the track listing is ‘born to die’ which is
also the name of the album. This is juxtaposing because the title
is about death (die) but the album artwork on the digipak has a theme of positivity and
features a blue sky with clouds. This could suggest that when we
die we go to heaven which is supposedly above the clouds. The colour scheme is simplistic yet very bold and links to the title born to
die due to the red colour relating to blood. Also, the colour black connotes darkness, death and funerals which makes this a key colour as part of the track listing colour scheme .
