HEPHAESTUS is the Greek name for the Roman

god of the forge, Vulcan. Birmingham has the

world’s largest iron statue, that of the Roman god,

Vulcan. We named our Starfleet chapter the

Hephaestus to give us ties to our city and to Star

Trek, which has had its own Vulcan since 1966.

Hephaestus forged armor and weapons for the gods.

We create our own “armor and weapons” here, in

our newsletter, so it is called The Anvil.

The Anvil, Issue 264, is the monthly newsletter of

the USS Hephaestus, NCC-2004, of Starfleet, The

International Star Trek Fan Association. All terms

and phrases from Star Trek are owned by

Paramount Pictures Corporation, a division of

Paramount Communications and all rights are

reserved.

Can you believe that Star Trek is 47 years old? That Next Generation is 26 years old? Both of these shows premiered in September. Star Trek on September 8th, 1966 and the Next Generation on Sept. 28, 1987. These shows have given hope to generations that a brighter future is out there. These shows have shaped not the small group of Trekkies who originally watched it but have shaped the world. So many things that we use and say can be traced back to these shows. I don’t remember when I first watched Star Trek since I was only 2 when it first aired, but I know it has been in my life since I was four because I was given a model of the Enterprise for my fourth birthday. My oldest memory was fighting with my brother over if we were going to watch Gilligan’s Island or Star Trek. This of course was when it was in reruns in the afternoon. So what are your memories of seeing Star Trek? Your memories of meeting the cast? Send them to me and I will share them in the next anvil. Also if you have a report on a convention you like to give, or on the new shows coming out this fall then send those to me as well. As always see you around the ship, Capt. MarkAdam Miller [email protected]

Here we are at the end of summer, and soon the weather will turn cooler, and right around the corner are the holidays.

Then I’ll be briefing you on our Fall Feast.

However it’s time for important ship’s business. Remember the Vote of Confidence for our CO MarkAdam Miller,

going on now until September 21. Email your vote to me at [email protected] by that date. A simple “yes” or

“no” will do. Currently I have received only three votes, so come on everybody, don’t be shy. Vote!

AND for the trivia lovers on the ship, here are a few facts about September. September begins on the same day of the

week as December every year because there are 91 days separating September and December. Two important dates in

September (besides 9/11 of course) are September 14 and 19. The 14th is the day Francis Scott Key wrote the Star

Spangled Banner. And the 19th is International Talk Like A Pirate Day.

So practice your Arrgggg’s! That’s all this time folks.

Attendance: 10 people.

Personnel Updates:

If you have any news or accomplishments you would like to share with the group please email them to me at: [email protected]. Also your personal updates can give your Captain added info to help get you recognition and an award at summit for your accomplishments.

SSttaarrfflleeeett MMaarriinnee CCoorrppss Greetings,

The 654th MSG is looking for members. There is a completely different set of Academy schools for those trying to get

the Boothby awards. There is no pressure in joining. There are two categories: Active which means all ranks will be

Marine ranks, and Reserve which mean you stay primary Fleet and only use Marine ranks when doing marine stuff.

Contact Major General Neil Yawn if you are interested or have questions.

Looking to boost your Boothby Awards? The Starfleet Marines Academy may be your answer. Check out what SFMC

Academy has for you.
