A LETTER FROM OUR

FOUNDERDr. Alexis Felder - Founder, Chief Executive Ofcer & Lead Volunteer

The Joseph Assignment Global Initiative is encouraged by achieve-ments in the eort to eliminate global poverty. Every clean water well constructed, school built and staed, community engaged and revitalized, medical clinic facilitat-ed, shelter operated, and sustain-able agriculture infrastructure developed in the world’s poorest regions is a testament to the compassion of our donor partners and volunteer sta. Every life saved and child provided opportunity to fulfill his/her potential is evidence of the power of purposeful collabo-ration.

The good news is, according to the United Nations, global poverty

rates have decreased by more than half in the last two decades. Since its founding in 2005, JAGI has relentlessly contributed to advanc-ing the battle against global poverty, focusing its eorts in many of the poorest, most remote areas of entrenched poverty and neglect in the world. Partnering with JAGI means you are on the winning side in the fight for a world in which hunger and malnutrition, prevent-able illnesses and infant mortality, illiteracy and lack of educational opportunities, sex tracking and child exploitation, and homeless-ness and destitute communities are but memories of a dark past never to be revisited. Together we are making progress!

However, acute challenges remain. Today, one in ten people (783 million) in developing regions live on less than US $1.90 a day per family (the international poverty line). Millions more earn just above this daily amount. 42% of the popu-lation in Sub-Saharan Africa continues to live below the poverty line. Global poverty continues to disproportionately impact women (122 women aged 25 to 34 living in extreme poverty for every 100 men of the same age group) and children (one in four children under age five in the world has inadequate height for his or her age due to malnutri-tion.) Four billion persons in the world exist without any social safety net or supportive services.

Page 3: ANNUAL REPORT · developed in the world’s poorest regions is a testament to the compassion of our donor partners and volunteer sta. Every life saved and child provided opportunity

Dr. Alexis FelderFounder, Chief Executive Ofcer & Lead Volunteer -

JAGI continues to be driven by foundational principles:

Every person has a right to adequate shelter, economic opportunity and sustainability, quality healthcare and access to clean water.

Global poverty is a human creation requiring collaborative human solutions. People living in poverty need not be destined to a life (and generations) of poverty.

Collaborative initiatives are essen-tial to leveraging the resources necessary to develop educational and economic opportunities for impoverished children and fami-lies.

Green technology and ecosystem preservation are essential elements for sustainable econom-ic development of the world’s poorest communities.

Compassionate action to promote holistic living is the key to global peace and shared prosperity.

JAGI maintains accountability to our donors/partners and commitment to operating with integrity and transparency.

As political and economic instability sweeps across the globe, children remain the most vulnerable to adverse impact. Nations and aid agencies are reducing their support in eorts to rid the world of extreme poverty. Climate change disasters disproportionately destroy lives in the most vulnerable communities, facing decreases in disaster relief and redevelopment resources. Already inadequate food production and other life sustaining infrastruc-tures are disrupted.

The need continues to be immense, and the JAGI needs you to continue, and increase, your support for our mission. Thank you for being such committed individual and corporate donors. The lives and communities we have impacted would not be possible without your valued partnership. The progress we have made since our founding in 2005 has been an impressive contribution to the fight against global poverty.

Yet people are still dying from preventable waterborne illnesses. Unfortunately, starvation, malnutri-tion, easily treatable illnesses and lack of access to education rob children of their dreams and the fulfillment of their potential.

We all suer the losses of our broth-ers and sisters deprived of opportu-nity and life contribution to society. The girl or boy with the aptitude to cure cancer, develop transforma-

tional technologies, advance the cause of human welfare, lead nations toward peace and prosperi-ty, or otherwise serve humanity cannot do so without a safe place to live, uncontaminated water to drink, nutritious food to eat, and a quality school in which to learn. Their loss is our loss.

As founder, CEO and lead volunteer, my purpose, motivated by my own rise from poverty, is to maintain an organization with an operational model reflecting 100% commitment to lifting the world’s poorest people and communities from poverty to opportunity. JAGI is designed to commit every dollar of its budget directly into the mission field. This is the Joseph Assignment Global Initiative and you are Joseph.

The Joseph Assignment Global Initiative needs you, where possible, to increase your giving. Write your network to show support and increase the number of JAGI donors and corporate partners (company sponsored school, drill a clean water well, etc.) or through corporate matching gifts, United Way contributions, etc. The more you give, the more lives you save, and the more men, women and children you uplift.

It is my great honor to have partnered with you these 13 years of progress. Don’t become weary in well doing. The best is yet to come.•

CORE AREAS OF

SERVICEEDUCATION134 million children between the ages of 7 and 18 have never been to school. Girls are more likely to go without schooling than boys. Children are more likely to be forced into child labor if they are not attending school.

HEALTHCAREMeasles, malaria, and diarrhea are three of the biggest killers of children. More than 30 million children are not immunized against treatable or preventable diseases. 1 in 4 children who die before age 5 die of water-related diseases. Diarrheal diseases kill five times as many children in the developing world as HIV/AIDS.

CLEAN WATERNearly 1.1 billion people do not have safe water to drink. A child dies every 15 seconds from unclean water. 2.3 million children die before age 5 due to water-related diseases.

Children often walk miles every day to collect dirty water to drink. 2.6 billion people lack adequate sanitation services.

ORPHANS & VULNERABLE CHILDRENA staggering 53,100,000 orphaned children live in Sub-Sahara Africa. In India, approximately 12,400,000 orphans and almost 40,000,000 children are in need. An estimated 6,000 children are orphaned by

AIDS every day. Children account for

half of all civilian war casualties in Africa.

SHELTERMore than 1 billion people are living in unsafe and impoverished living conditions. In most housing structures, 5 to 12 people share one 10’ x 10’ room. The structural quality is very poor and dangerous in most thatch and clay homes. Poor housing means diseases spread more rapidly.

FOODHunger kills more people every year than AIDS, Malaria, and TB. More than 900 million people go to bed hungry every day, 300 million are children and 5 million people will die every year from hunger. Every day, almost 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes. Children who are poorly nourished suer up to 16 days of illness each year.

GREEN TECHNOLOGIESIn developing countries (Asia and Africa), especially in rural areas, 2.5 billion people rely on biomass, such as fuel, wood, charcoal, agricultural wastes and animal dung, to meet their energy needs for cooking. These forms of energy sources predisposes families to hazards associated with smoke, fumes, CO, HC and other particulates. •

Our 100% project commitment literally transformed the lives of more than 70,000 individuals in 2017. Our community came together and raised thousands of dollars to ensure clean and safe water was available for children to drink so they would not die. Through your partnership with The Joseph Assignment, we continued to achieve our mission and vision for families around the world. Thank you for allowing The Joseph Assignment to be an extension of your heart. We are stronger and better together, so let’s continue the work we started together over a decade ago. Sometimes, the mental, physical, and behavioral conditions of residents within a community are determined by the condition of the community. We believe if we can change the condition of the community, we can change the condition of those living in the community. •

Through our ongoing strategic development efforts throughout the world, we have impacted the lives of more

than 497,000 people living in extreme poverty through our core areas of service.

PRIVILEGE!MEETING THEIR NEEDS IS OUR

Isn’t it good to know that great things can happen wherever you desire? Our giving opporunities let you customize your contribution to impact specific needs in the world. When you look for a return, it’s not always measured in the dollars and cents you invest. It's also measured by the smile you see when you look in the mirror or by the smiling faces of children and families who just benefited from you sharing a real touch with them - LOVE!

Some 3 in 10 people worldwide — or 2.1 billion people — lack access to safe, readily-available water at home, and 6 in 10 — 4.5 billion — lack safely-managed sanitation. This results in the death of 361,000 children under the age of 5 years old due to diarrhea annually. This is a problem Joseph can solve.

GIVING IS

EASYCASH, CHECK, AUTO-DEDUCTIONS OR CREDIT CARD DONATIONS ARE A GREAT GIFT IDEAYour immediate gift of cash or check is greatly needed and appreciated. You can use the enclosed envelope to make an end-of-the-year gift of cash or check that can be claimed as a tax deduction on your 2018 taxes. If you would rather make a gift by credit card, please call (866) LIVE-10 to speak with a member of our team, or visit us online at www.josephassignment.org.

MAKE A GIFT OF STOCK BY WIRE TRANSFERA gift of stock can support the lifesaving work of The Joseph Assignment while lessening your tax burden. Whether the stock has increased or declined in value, you may be able to enjoy significant tax benefits by making a gift of stock to The Joseph Assignment before December 31, 2018.

If the gift of stock has appreciated in value, you can avoid capital gains tax on the appreciated value and deduct the amount of charitable income tax that is equal to the full fair market value of the stock upon the transfer.

You can easily donate the stock by simply providing your broker or financial advisor with The Joseph Assignment oce number (815) 806-3591 or (866) LIVE-010. It is best to sell the assets first and then donate the proceeds to The

Joseph Assignment. Claim both a loss deduction from the sales and the charitable deduction on your taxes.

DEATH BENEFICIARYThe most tax-eective way to donate life insurance is to transfer the policy so that the charity becomes the owner and beneficiary. You are entitled to an immediate charitable deduction for income tax purposes. Donating a life insurance policy to charity outright is just one potential strategy for leveraging unneeded life insurance to achieve your philanthropic goals. Others include: Charitable gift annuities. Exchanging a life insurance policy for a charitable gift annuity allows you to deduct the value of the benefit received by the charity while retaining an income stream for the rest of your life. Typically, the annuity payments consist of a combination of ordinary income and tax-free return of basis.

TAX INCENTIVES FOR IRA GIVING EXTENDED THROUGH 2018A tax law passed in 2010 reinstated the option allowing people age 70-1/2 and older to make tax-free transfers of up to $100,000 from their IRA through December 2018, provided that the money is transferred directly to a qualified charitable organization from the IRA. If this applies to you, please check with your financial advisor about the best ways to take advantage of this giving opportunity and how state and federal tax laws may aect your plans. •

TO EACH OF OUR

DONORSvery single dollar you donate is put directly into action towards fulfilling your intent to change a life. Our dedicated U.S. sta

members volunteer 100% of their time so your gift can meet the needs of the world’s poor and needy. We place high value on meeting the desires of our donors. Our donors place a high value on the lives they seek to save.

God does not only comfort us to make us comfortable, but to make us comforters.

We believe compassion must be followed by action that cultivates change and promotes holistic living. Through successful partnerships, The Joseph Assignment Global Initiative has been able to provide resources, expertise, and opportunities to enhance the quality of life for people all over the world. Just because people are born into poverty does not mean they are destined to a life of poverty.

I am your brother Joseph, it was God who sent me here ahead of you to preserve your lives.
