Examples of incidents generating an emergency response:

Emergency preparedness activities are designed to protect life, property and equipment when an event may interfere with normal operations of the Hospital.

Two Emergency Preparedness Disaster Drills are conducted annually for each hospital with

at least one being an external disaster drill.

An emergency is a natural or manmade event that suddenly or significantly:

•disrupts the environment of care such as damage to the building or grounds due to severe windstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, or earthquakes.

•disrupts care and treatment- from loss of utilities (power, water, telephones) due to floods or civil disturbances, accidents, or emergencies within the hospital or in the community or;

•changes or increases demands on the hospital’s services due to bio-terrorist attack, building collapse, or an airplane crash, etc.

YOUR ROLE IS IMPORTANT

• To report an emergency - Call 3333 & tell the operator which hospital building and floor

• Review the Emergency Preparedness Manual/Policy to see how you are expected to respond in an emergency.

• Make sure that your telephone number on the department’s Disaster Recall Roster is kept up-to-date.

In the event of a disaster where more staff is needed, the Disaster Recall Roster will be activated.

Types of Pages

• Code Yellow Drill -a practice drill is being activated.

• Code Yellow Standby - the Hospital has been notified of a potential emergency.

•Code Yellow- the Hospital’s emergency plan is activated.

•All Clear- the emergency condition is terminated.

staff and visitors. When announced, stay away from the area!
