WEEKLY NEWSLETTER | DECEMBER 23, 2018 | VOLUME 51 | ISSUE 48
As most of you recipients are aware, Dana and I along with family and friends are awaiting the death of Dana’s mother, Lorna Whisnand. She is 95 years old and has had many health issues in her life. She lost a leg when Dana was 2. She also had typhoid fever, spinal meningitis, whooping cough, ulcerative colitis which involved many blood transfusions. When I married into the family (1972), the Doctors told her she would need a surgery which she avoided by watching her diet. She was an exceptional cook and mother, sister, mother-in-law (which she referred to as “mother by law”). She was married the first time for six months when her husband, a pilot, was called into WW2 and was killed. After the loss of her leg, mentioned earlier, she spent her life working at a hospital, and working at home from a wheel chair. She lived by herself, after the death of her second husband (2013) until a month ago. At the present time she is at our house under hospice care and we are awaiting her move into eternity. She has passed through these difficulties and trials with grace, happi-ness, patience and faith. She cared for her family and extended family with a deep love and affectionate service. In her living room is her Bible which she read daily. In my 46 years of knowing her I cannot remember an unkind word (except when she told me to wash my hands before I touched a loaf of bread). I never understood “mother in law” jokes because Lorna treated me especially kind (knowing me that was a trial in and of itself). She also prepared for me the greatest wife any man could have. My Dana is just like her mother. Given all Lorna has been through no one really expected her to live 95 years, but she did. She did it with faith. Her faith has been the one unaltered constant in her life. Through the happiness of life and the trials of life her faith remained. It was/is the foundation of her life. She rolled through her time here and faced all the eventualities with steadfastness and belief in the Divine. Now, as her body struggles into eternity, the Divine One is there, as always. Now, whatever she has enjoyed or suffered is of no conse-quence. It’s over. But the heavenly reality is just beginning. It will be

a blessing when she breaths her last. It will be relief from the “thorny” world and a movement into exceptional enjoyment. In some ways those of us left behind have a tinge of jealousy that she gets to hug the Savior before us. I gladly imagine that mo-ment for her. Lorna Whisnand. My mother “by law.” A woman of faith, no matter what. I thought maybe all my new friends in Deer Park would like to know a little about one of the ladies in my life who helped shape me into the person I am today. Foree

At this time of the year, I catch myself reading over the story of Jesus birth and remembering why the season came to be. The story is recorded in both Luke and Matthew, but strangely not in John or Mark.
The angel, Gabriel, told Mary, “You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.” Luke 1:31-33
Who would come to save the world? But God decided that Jesus would enter the world, just as we all have done, as a baby. Then as an adult, Jesus came in obedience to do the will of His Heavenly Father. Through his obedience and by His death and raising on the third day, He was proved to be the Son of God.
“For to us a Savior was born...And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” –Isaiah 9:6
Have a great holiday season. Todd
