Animal Free Human Serum Albumin

INTRODUCTION. ecoHSA™ is a Human Serum Albumin produced in the endosperm of Oryza sativa (Asian rice). The primary function of ecoHSA is to promote cell growth and support cell health. In this capacity, ecoHSA performs equally or better than animal or human derived albumin, and is structurally and biochemically equivalent to plasma-derived HSA, but without any of the potential downstream problems associated with serum-

derived albumin, such as the risk of contamination with adventitious viral agents or transmissible spongi form encephalopathies. Whether you are

This recombinant HSA is prepared by careful genetic cloning and transformation into rice plants, resulting in endosperm-specific expression. Production in an ISO 9001 certified facility using rigorous quality control procedures assures batch-to-batch consistency. The result is a highly pure HSA protein free of any animal or human by-products, such as potential infectious agents like BSE, infectious viruses, or prions.

General Information

a. ecoHSA is a single polypeptide, 585 aa long, with a molecular weight of 66 kDa (with no glycosylation).

b. ecoHSA can function as a fatty acid carrier, hydrophobic moiety and toxin scavenger, membrane stabilizer, metal delivery enhancer, and can help maintain oncotic pressure in cell cultures.

c. Known ecoHSA applications include: general mammalian cell culture; reduction or elimination of FBS; formulation of protein therapeutics and vaccines; Cryopreservation, in vitro diagnostic research, formulation development research.

d. IMPORTANT: ecoHSA is NOT for use directly in drugs or food additives.

Cell Culture Protocol

1. Dissolve one vial of ecoHSA (0.5 g) with 3-4 ml of cell culture medium, or in 1X PBS. Let the ecoHSA solution sit for 1 hour to assure full dissolution before adding to cell culture medium. NOTE: Use the cell culture media with the added ecoHSA within 7 days or less.

2. Transfer all of the dissolved ecoHSA from 1 vial (0.5 g), to 500 ml of medium. Final concentration is 1 mg/ml.

3. Culture your cells as normal using the ecoHSA-containing medium.

4. To freeze cells, spin down 2-5X105 cells and resuspend in 1ml of cell culture media containing 30% ecoHSA and 10% DMSO.
