Welcome to Term 2 Term 2 has commenced smoothly after our recent Easter vacation break. Students in general seem to be very happy to be back at school and are settling effectively back into the daily routines which allow learning time to be maximised. Mrs Orford and Mr Santilli will be conducting their classes in the Multi this term whilst the Grade 2 classrooms are refurbished – the last part of this major project. The school now has a new entry foyer which we hope will provide improved access for parents and visitors to the General Office. I wish all school community members a happy and productive Term 2.

The Mano Carnivale is only a week away! Saturday 28th April 11am – 4pm This special event is very, very close now! Thank you to all volunteers who will ensure its success but there are still some vacancies on stalls for parents to offer their support. Anyone can volunteer - grandparents, aunts & uncles, neighbours and friends. To sign-up to volunteer please visit http://manifoldheightsprimaryschool.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/ . If you need assistance please contact the General Office. A big thank you for all the donations to date – chocolate, wine, second hand books and toys, plants, class hamper items, etc. Please keep them coming in. Class Hamper donations close Friday 20th April. Raffle ticket sales are going well and if you’d like another book of 10 tickets just contact the General Office. Raffle tickets are due back on Tuesday 24th April. Colouring competition entries are still being accepted and close on Wednesday 25th April – spares can be collected from General Office.

Term 2 Student Leaders Announced These were announced at Assembly on Monday and a big congratulations to all students who have taken on significant leadership roles for Term 2. We can feel very confident that these roles will be embraced by such worthy appointments. School Captains: Molly Howell and Megan Eltringham House Captains: Purrumbete - Izak Pankhurst. Strachan - Isabelle Nicolson. Narmbool - Koji Stanton-Lawrence. Manifold - Jack Logan. School Leaders: Henry Edwards and Mia Atanasovski

New Shade Sails for Mano Have you seen the new shade sails? They look fabulous and are the result of a successful State Government Grant received last year. The $20,000 structure provides shade over the playground near the corner of Strachan Ave and Narmbool St (the playground that in recent times was refurbished with past fundraising funds such as the 2016 Mano Carnivale). Other funds from this SunSmart related grant will supply some mature trees to add natural shade to our school grounds. We hope to complete this during the middle months of the year.

Education Week – Monday 21st May - Friday 25th May Education Week (the 6th week of this term) will be celebrated across schools in Victoria with a theme of Celebrating The Arts. We are planning lots of special events including: Open Day Tours, a whole school breakfast, Grandparents day and a dress up day matched to the theme. Lots more details to come – stay tuned!

NAPLAN Testing for Grade 3 and 5 students All students in Grades 3 and 5 (together with Year 7 and 9) across Australia are invited to complete four tests – literacy and numeracy related. These tests are scheduled for Tuesday May 15th to Thursday May 17th. Students at Mano in Grade 3 and 5 will be preparing for these in the coming weeks. If you wish your child to be exempt from these national tests we require formal written communication from parents. Whilst the results take some time to be received, teachers will use this data to moderate against in-school testing and assessment procedures and to align curriculum planning work accordingly.

ANZAC Day Public Holiday – Wednesday 25th April On this day school will be closed and classes will resume Thursday 26th April at 9am. At our weekly assembly on Monday 23rd April we have an ANZAC Day component planned, largely planned and delivered by our student leaders. We hope to see many parents at this special assembly, which will also see the first ‘Students of the Week’ for Term 2 awarded.

Proposed Pupil Free Day for Term 2 – Monday 25th June (last week of term) In response to previous surveying and parental input, we have added into our program an opportunity for parents to meet formally with classroom teachers at mid-year – a pupil free day has been proposed for the last Monday of Term 2 for Parent/Teacher Interviews. An online appointment system will be able to support these and details of this will be shared closer to the date. These interviews will be offered very soon after mid-year Student Reports are issued (planned to be Friday 22nd June). Teachers will clarify report details, share samples of recent student work and discuss plans for student learning for Term 3 and beyond. Parents will decide if they wish their child to be present at the agreed interview time – this could be just for some of the interview time if deemed appropriate. Interviews are likely to be offered from midday into the early evening, to cater for various family commitments and working hours.

Recent Working Bee In some pretty cool and challenging weather this ‘day before schools goes back’ Working Bee achieved a great deal. A big thank you to the eight Mano families who supported the works being addressed which included a tidy up around the adventure playground (photo below). Our school grounds are well looked after by our gardener/handyman John but Working Bees are needed. The next one will be Sunday 15th July – the day before Term 3 starts. We hope to see you there!

Manifold Heights PS Week beginning 16th April 2018

Coordinator: Kammie Kaur

Hi Everyone,

It has been a great first week of term. We have enjoyed group games and other activities. Vivian, Jacob, Ingrid, Samuel, Justin and

William played with Lego. William built a space ship and Ingrid made a telescope with Lego. As this week was declared as environ-

ment week, children participated in an environment project. Amber, Leah, Addyson and Jarvis enjoyed colouring in. Madeleine and

Scarlett played Charades. Samuel, Jack and Angus played with zoos pieces. Children got the opportunity to be active

outside. Charlie, Caleb and Angus built houses with building blocks. I would like to thank all the families attending the OSHC room.

If you looking for registration, just log. www.campaustralia.com.au. Just reminding parents if your child is not attending the OSHC

program on any day they are booked, you must let us know via phone or school office as we are to follow correct procedures in

locating children who have not shown up. This will involve calling parents, additional contact then if not located the police. So

please ensure you communicate if your child is not attending the OSHC program.

Thanks. Kamaljit (Kammie)
