What is the First 2000 Days Network?

The First 2000 Days Network is a collective response of community members, organizations, professionals with a passion for making progress on our vision:

All children from conception to six are supported by family and community

in order to reach their optimal development.

Why 2000 Days?

From conception to entering kindergarten, our community has 2000 days to build a lifetime

foundation and make the difference in the life of a child.

What is the First 2000 Days Network?

• A common voice to influence leaders, policies, decision makers to understand and act on the importance of the early years.

• A virtual hub for communities who chose to participate.

• A trusted place for organizations and individuals to be there for each other and serve each other’s needs.

Our HistoryThe First 2000 Days Network began as a collective response to move the needle on early childhood development.

The First 2000 Days Network brought together:•the Early Childhood Mapping Project (ECMap) and their community-based coalitions; •the early years programs from the United Way (UpStart); and •the early childhood literacy work of Calgary Reads.

The Network’s Purpose Statement

To enable unique contributions from a diverse group of individuals and

organizations to achieve the vision of the First 2000 Days Network by acting as a catalyst for learning, connecting, and

collaborative action.

A Network that has a strong voice and evidence-based requests for

policy makers and funders based on the collective needs of communities for leadership

in early childhood development.

How you can contribute:Weaving Relationships

• Building on existing relationships and weaving new social ties and relationships. (Deliberately connecting others to strengthen social ties).

• Accessing new and diverse perspectives.• Openly build and share knowledge and best

practices.• Create infrastructure for widespread

engagement; find avenues to make it easy for people to connect.

• Coordinate resources and actions when possible.
