2019 Teachers and Classes Class set up is subject to change up to the end of Term 1. This happens only when there is an unexpected increase in enrolments when school starts or when students don’t return and we have not been informed. It is also possible for classes to stay the same, but students may need to be moved to even up the number of children in each class. Not all teachers have been appointed. I hope to have them sorted before Christmas, so keep your eyes on the Upper Swan Facebook page. There is a chance appointments may be delayed until the week before school starts. 2019 Information

New Teacher Ms Jeanette Bell is the only new teacher to date. She has taught for twelve years at Quinns Beach Primary, teaching mostly Year 4. Jeanette has a proven track record as an expert teacher. She is on loan to us from Quinns Beach for 2019.

Leaving Staff At this moment I know of some teachers who are definitely leaving. They are all to be congratulated for being selected on merit for jobs at other schools. This acknowledges their outstanding professionalism in all aspects of teaching.

Miss Niki Zakarias – Caladenia Primary (Canning Vale) Mrs Julia Spencer – Malvern Springs Mrs Jessica Munro – Deputy Principal, Armadale Primary

Mrs Konnie Green is semi-retiring from her Pre Primary job and will now only do relief work. Konnie is a terrific team player and has spent four years working with various teachers and assistants in Pre Primary.

Retirement After 28 years of service to the Upper Swan school community, Mrs Maureen Campbell is retiring. Maureen is currently our longest serving staff member. It is not possible to measure the impact Maureen has had on the lives of many hundreds of young people during this time. Suffice it to say that she has touched many lives and leaves with the memory of the many special bonds she has forged over the years. A retirement function will be held early next year.

Leaving or Not? A few of our teachers don’t have positions yet. This might change during the Christmas holidays. I thank each of them for the contribution they have made at the classroom, school and community level. They are Mrs Tania Lorschy (Yr4), Ms Cindy Merillo (Pre P) and Mrs Tarquin Allen (Pre P).

Some of our Education Assistants have completed their contracts. Depending on how things unfold, we may see them again next year. They have all made an enormous contribution to the education of our students and provided tremendous support to the teachers they have worked with. They are Mrs Lynn Carroll (Pre P), Mrs Robyne Healy (K/PP), Mrs Lisa Jones (Yr 2) and Mrs Michelle Minus (Yr 3).

School Uniforms Although it’s possible the supplier of our uniforms may change around April or May next year, the colour and style of the school and faction polos will stay the same.

Year 6 2019 Camp Camp has been booked for week 3 of Term 4; October 30 to November 1. That’s 3 days and 2 nights at Point Peron. There may be changes to the cost and activities as next year the Education Department will no longer be running the camp. It is being taken over by a private company. This is a “budget repair” measure.

Graduation Families will be consulted about the type of ‘event’ the graduation will be. Just because a certain style of event has happened in previous years, it does not necessarily mean the type of event in 2019 has to be the same as any other year. For your interest; a survey of this year’s families completed after last week’s event shows a strong preference for a restaurant type venue.

Parent Meeting Within the first few weeks of Term 1 there will be a parent meeting as part of the consultation process for graduation, camp and fundraising.

Dance Concert I can’t be certain if there will be a dance concert next year. I am keen on the idea of the dance concert alternating with the Art Show. That would mean the next few years might see dance concerts in 2019 and 2021 with the Art Show being held in 2020 and 2022. Holding the dance concert in our undercover area from 2019 is under consideration. However, the Midvale complex definitely adds to the spectacle. Parent and Community Volunteers On behalf of all staff I sincerely thank the tremendous support our students and staff get from our many volunteers. Whether you a P & C Committee member planning and running the next event, a classroom helper, student mentor, camp helper, excursion slave or a School Board Member; you all help make our school a better place. To everyone who supports P & C fundraising activities and helps out at events like discos and sausage sizzles; I appreciate your efforts. You’re all amazing. School News A BIG thank you to everyone who was able to contribute to the Christmas Hamper and presents appeal for Vinnies! Our school collected around 20 generous boxes full of food and goodies and a huge pile of presents that will go to families in need this Christmas.

Noelene Mercer Chaplain Medication Collection If you have any medication stored at the school, please collect it from the front office on your child’s last day of school for 2018. As most medications are heat sensitive, the school cannot guarantee a stable temperature throughout the school holidays. We thank you for your collection in advance.
