with the Old Testament and continuing into modern tir 1es. Volume two, when published, will cover Marian theology, and volume thrF ~' devotion to the Blessed Virgin.

Father Carol has an international reputation as a , \arian scholar and he has called on eleven authorities in various branches of the. >logy to contribute to the first volume. MARIOLOGY is the only work of its kinJ in the English language and marks a significant step forward in American Ma· iology. It belongs in all college, university, and seminary libraries. Every reLgious and rectory library will also need it.

PROTESTAN'fS and the DIVINE MATERNITY Reports from 100 Protestant ministers to a recent questionnaire showed

that 64 percent do not b€lieve in the Divine Maternity, that is, that Mary is the Mother of God. Of the remaining 36 percent, 21 ministers expressed belief in the Divine Maternity, an 15 percent were uncertain.

These statistics wer• given by Father Kenneth Dougherty, S.A., of the Atonement Seminary, W .~shington, D.C., in a paper, "Contemporary American Protestant Attitudes TO\Iard the Divine Maternity," read at the sixth annual convention of the Mariological Society of America in St. Louis early in January.

Father Dougherty said that the most common reason given by the minis­ters for denying the Divi 1e Maternity was the mistaken belief that the Catholic Church divinizes Our Lady. This charge of Mariolatry "could be corrected by a visit to any Catholic Church," he concluded.
