WHERE DO I PUT THE SCORES?

AN INTRODUCTION TO BASIC CONCEPTS USING AN ADOBE LMS

That’s me, Allen Partridge. I live in Oregon, and love to hike in the mountains that surround my home at the southern edge of the Williamette Valley.

Where did my scores go, and other nonsense …

• I need a place to put my training online, and a way to track the access, scores and results.

• I have to provide certification solutions, compliance training and I want to host a library of training.

• I just want to give a quiz or test and find out how learners did. Isn’t there a magic button for that?

• I need to know how all of my learners are progressing. Who finished? Who hasn’t even started?

• I want to understand if my courses are working – are people learning the ideas I’m trying to teach?

Most people just point to that one tech expert …

That ain’t gonna fly forever.

A place to put my training online

• With Adobe Captivate Prime • Host your eLearning, docs, pdfs, videos & PowerPoints online• Blend instruction with Virtual Conferences and F2F Training• Easily access to test scores and tracking data

• Simply put, you can just publish to Prime from • Adobe Captivate• Adobe Presenter • Adobe Presenter Video Express

• OR Publish any SCORM, AICC or xAPI content• Like Storyline or Lectora

Wait! Huh? What is all that?

• Just a way to organize score reporting • With any of these standards, quizzes and

interaction scores can be shared and stored

• Always make sure that your authoring tool(s) and your LMS support at least one of these standards.

• Adobe Captivate Prime supports all three

SCORM? AICC? xAPI?

Combine scheduling & content

Any format content incl. interactive

PDF, PPTs, DOCx, SCORM, AICC

Build courses – align to skills

Just load all of your content into the LMS

Wait! Huh? What is a skill?

• A skill is a specific learned activity.• Trainers often use competencies &

skills to organize the types of training created and assigned to learners

• By aligning your learning to skills, you will be able to easily show the people with the money, how awesome your training is.

Align your courses to skills

During the late 50’s, Donald Kirkpatrick introduced a four level model for evaluating learning impact.

Reaction, Learning, Behavior, Results

Competencies / Skills

L1: Reaction How did the learners react to the training?

L2: LearningWas there improvement in knowledge, skills and abilities?

L3: BehaviorIs the knowledge transferred to on the job action?

L4: ResultsHow did the training impact the business?

Competencies / Skills

L1: Reaction FeedbackHow did the Learner react?Generally a series of simple questionsOften called smile sheets

Jim Kirkpatrick of Kirkpatrick Partners redefined L1 Feedback with a learner centered focus: http://www.kirkpatrickpartners.com/Portals/0/Storage/The%20new%20world%20level%201%20reaction%20sheets.pdf

Competencies / Skills

L2: LearningWas there improvement in knowledge, skills and abilities?

Commonly this is measured through a comparison of pre and post test results.

Practice / Simulation / Gamification all provide alternatives that may expand the reach of evaluation into skills.

Competencies / Skills

L3: BehaviorIs the knowledge transferred to on the job results / behaviors / action?

Some approaches here: • Delayed knowledge testing• Formal and informal on-the-job practice• 4-6 Week manager check up

Competencies / Skills

L4: ResultsHow did the training impact the business?• Break down the business strategy into

parts that require training• Describe the required competencies • Identify the skills and knowledge that

contribute to those competencies
