Vibrations and Frequency Relationship

Robertshaw vibration switches and monitors minimize production shut down time and repair costs by measuring the total accelerated force (shock) present on a machine. Individual acceleration measurements are summed to yield the total destructive force acting on a machine. This information enables you to proactively and strategically maintain equipment.

Robertshaw Vibration Switches and Monitors measure the total acceleratory force (shock) present on a machine or piece of equipment. Vibration switches can be wired in through machine controls to accomplish a shut down or alarm if values exceed preset levels. Vibration monitors provide a continuous 4-20 ma signal for trending and or contacts for shutdown or alarm.

In general terms, vibration can be described as mechanical motion or oscillation of a machine about its point of equilibrium. Displacement is the measure or movement or motion. Frequency is the number of sine waves generated for rotating equipment.

Frequency = Machine RPM/60

Vibration measurement benefits include:

*Shutdown and early warning before failure*Unattended machine protection*Predictive maintenance*Reduced severity of machinery damage*Savings by reduced downtime and repairs

Vibration monitoring equipment can avoid costly down time and repairs.

Vibration Switches and Monitors Selection Guide

Virtually any equipment which rotates or has other forms of reciprocating motion will vibrate when it becomes unbalanced due to wear or other factors. Monitoring vibration of this equipment is your insurance to prevent costly breakdowns and down time.
