■ The US FDA received a programme level budget of$US1.64 billion when the US President signed theFY2003 Omnibus Appropriation Bill in February thisyear, representing a 21% increase compared with theFY2002 omnibus. The legislation will provide theFDA’s generic drugs programme with an additional$US5.3 million, while the improvement of patientprotection against medical errors involving FDA-regulated drugs, medical devices and biologicals willalso receive $US5 million.Food and Drug Administration.
