CIPS Pan African Conference 2014moving to Zambia
INSIDE THIS ISSUE
We regret to inform our members and public in general that our annual CIPS conference will no longer take place in Nairobi, Kenya, as we had initially communicated.
The unfortunate deadly attack in Kenya’s Westgate Shopping Centre has brought shock to the entire continent. As a result, a number of members have received travel warnings and insurance restrictions on travel to Kenya.
CIPS has now opted for Zambia as the destination for the CIPS conference 2014.More details about the conference will be released shortly and CIPS extends their condolences to those affected by the recent events in Kenya.
CIPS Africa stays committed to its membership community and stakeholders in Kenya, and therefore the 2015 conference will be hosted in Kenya.

The Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) has
signed a partnership with The International Institute for
Advanced Purchasing & Supply (IIAPS) to develop a new
masters-level qualification for procurement and supply
professionals.
This unique qualification in strategic sourcing will bring
together the expertise of IIAPS with CIPS' awarding body
status to create world-class professionals sought-after by
business and organisations around the world. On
completion they will be awarded the post-nominal letters
ExDip.
The qualification will be studied via an online distance-
learning system, available 24 hours and anywhere in the
world with PC and internet access.
CIPS Group CEO David Noble said: “This is a fantastic
development and we're pleased to be working with such
a highly-regarded institute as IIAPS.
“We have long been aware that we need to be offering
masters-level qualifications to go with our masters awards
programme and offer a route that will take specialists
'beyond MCIPS'.
“Strategic sourcing is a complex, highly-skilled activity that
calls for high-quality professionals. Sourcing sustainably,
ethically and efficiently is one of the major challenges
Masters level in strategic sourcing will create world-class specialists of the future
facing business and global organisations, and finding the
right talent to support such corporate objectives will be
crucial in the decades to come.
Andrew Cox, Chairman of the Advisory Board and Vice-
President at IIAPS added, “The development of this
unique partnership provides a real opportunity to move
the profession to the next level. By studying for the
IIAPS International Green & Red Belts in Advanced
Purchasing & Supply® practitioners now have the
chance to achieve the CIPS Executive Diploma in
Strategic Sourcing, a Masters level qualification. This
will clearly differentiate those practitioners who have
been able to demonstrate their advanced practical
competence in category management and strategic
sourcing”
The qualification will be launched in the coming
months and will form part of a CIPS initiative to offer
masters level skills, qualifications and training relevant
to modern business environments.
More information about the qualification will be
available at the CIPS conference on 10 October at Kings'
Place London where elements of the online system will
be available to view and trial.
The new BEE Codes for Procurement and Supply Chain Executives
There are now five BEE scorecard elements companies
must measure themselves on, three of which are priority
elements. Large companies must achieve minimum
thresholds on each of the priority elements. If the
minimum threshold is not met on ANY one of the priority
elements, the company will automatically drop a BEE
compliance level, once measured on all five elements.

A wealth of resources, specifically designed for public sector agencies, is now available from the Partnership for Public Procurement … on the Global Public Procurement portal.

What is NIGP?
NIGP is the National Institute of Governmental
Purchasing, a professional body which is specifically
focused on public procurement in America and Canada
NIGP has over 17,000 individual members and 2,500
organisational members, and like CIPS, has been
operating for over 80 years. As such, NIGP has been
mentioned several times in our history as a potential
partner.
Why are we in partnership with NIGP?
Firstly, the partnership is for a very specific reason, and
that is to serve public procurement organisations
around the world. There are four very specific strands
of work that both organisations will pursue together.
This is therefore not a merger, but a partnership.
For many years, CIPS has had a public sector strategy,
with over 25 per cent of CIPS membership working in
the public sector. However, NIGP has a level of
specialist public procurement expertise that CIPS is able
to introduce in to its own markets in a structured way.
In essence, CIPS and NIGP are coming together because
they believe in an absolute necessity to develop public
procurement for the public, social and economic good
of the countries in which both organisations operate.
What makes NIGP such a good partner is that, its
mission, objectives and vision are closely aligned to
those of CIPS. It is hoped that together the two
organisations will develop principles and practices that
assist in improving public procurement worldwide but
also a public maturity framework that will aid the
journey of continuous improvement for public
procurement organisations.
The partnership brings together the strength of the CIPS
brand and CIPS position as the largest professional body
of its type in the world, with NIGP’s brand, recognised
as the largest public procurement professional body in
the world. Both organisations are highly respected and
bring different attributes to the relationship, together
with complementary products and services. CIPS gains
access to the US market, while giving NIGP access to
our wider international markets.
CIPS will be able to access academic and organisational
networks through NIGP, including stronger links with aid
organisations, which may support further development
of our International Development work. NIGP will be
assisting CIPS in gaining access to US and Canadian aid
organisations.
As CIPS and NIGP work together, it is possible that access
to and work with South American countries such as
Brazil, Mexico and Panama will become more easily
supported from within the USA.
