The importance of Design!

The importance of Design!

What is design?

• “In design sometimes one plus one equals three.”Josef Albers.

What is design?

1+1=3

Joseph Albers

The world isn’t a given, we construct the world!

How about the sciences,.. Is there a

difference?

The gravity of lawFree falling object motion:

Is the velocity of falling objects depending on the mass of the object?

Is the velocity of falling objects depending on the medium it is falling in?

Aristotle

Falling in water and air

Galilei, But:

What happens if:

Faster or slower?

• “Everything is design. Everything!” Paul Rand.

• “Design addresses itself to the need.”Charles Eames.

• “In most people’s vocabularies, design means veneer. It’s interior decorating. It’s the fabric of the curtains and sofa. But to me, nothing could be further from the meaning of design. Design is the fundamental soul of a man-made creation that ends up expressing itself in successive outer layers of the product or service.”

Steve Jobs, Apple Computer.

• "Design is as much an expression of feeling as an articulation of reason. It is an art as well as a science, a process and a product, an assertion of disorder, and a display of order.”

Victor Margolin.

Design

In an knowledge economy design is a necessary asset!

But what do we mean by knowledge

economy?

knowledge-based economy

Per definition:

• A business product, as educational and innovative intellectual products and services can be exported for a high value return.

• A productive asset in an information society,.. Look at google, e-bay, etc., or i-tunes

That means:

Research, development (R&D) and

Design are key assets of your

future!
