Según un informe emitido por la Agencia de Protección ambiental de EEUU alrededor del mundo se consumen cada año entre 500 billones y un trillón de bolsas plásticas.

Less than 1% of plastic bags are recycled. Recycling a plastic bag is more expensive than producing a new one.Then, where do plastic bags go?

Un estudio de 1975 demostró que los buques transoceánicos arrojaban 8 millones de libras de plástico al mar cada año.

La razón por la cual los basureros del mundo no estaban inundados es porque la mayoría acaba en el océano.

A survey from 1975 proved that transoceanic vessels threw 8 millionpounds of plastics to the sea each year altogether.

The reason why the dumps of the world weren't full of plastics was because the greater part of them end in the ocean.

Las bolsas de plástico son llevadas a diferentes sitios tierras y hacia nuestros mares, lagos y ríos.Las bolsas de plástico encuentran su camino al mar en alcantarillados y cañerías.

Plastic bags are taken away to different places in our land and our seas, lakes and rivers.The bags find their way to the sea in the drains and pipes.

Se han encontrado bolsas plásticas flotando al norte del Círculo Ártico cerca de Spitzbergen e incluso mucho más al sur, en las islas Malvinas.

Plastic bags have been found floating north of the Artic Circle near Spitzbergen and even much more further south, in the Faulkland Islands.

Las bolsas plásticas se fotodegradan: con el pasar del tiempo se descomponen en petropolímeros más pequeños y tóxicos que finalmente contaminan los suelos y las vías fluviales.

Plastic bags photodegrade: with the time they are broken down into smaller and more toxic petropolimeres that finally contaminate the ground and the rivers.

Como consecuencia, partículas microscópicas pueden entrar a formar parte de la cadena alimentaria.

As a consequence, microscopic particles may enter the food chain.

El efecto sobre la vida silvestre puede ser catastrófico.

Los animales se quedan atrapados sin esperanza.

The effect on wild life can be catastrophic.

Animals are trapped without hope.

Cerca de 200 diferentes especies de vida marina, incluyendo ballenas, delfines, focas y tortugas mueren a causa de las bolsas plásticas.

About 200 different species of sea life, including whales, dolphins, seals and turtles die because of plastic bags.

Mueren después de ingerir las bolsas plásticas que confunden con comida.

They die after eating the plastic bags that they confuse with food.

Si usamos una bolsa

de tela podemos ahorrar unas 6 bolsas por semana. Es decir, 24 bolsas al mes. O sea, 288 bolsas al año.

O sea, 22.176 bolsas en una vida promedio.

If we use a cloth bag, we can

save 6 bags a week. That is,

Si sólo 1 de cada 5 personas en nuestro país* hiciera esto, ahorraríamos 208.454.400.000 bolsas durante nuestras vidas.

Son muchos los países que han prohibido las bolsas plásticas gratuitas, lo que ha reducido su consumo.

There are many countries that have forbidden free plastic bags, which has reduced their consumption.

Por último, las bolsas plásticas están hechas de polietileno: un termoplástico que se obtiene del petróleo.Reduciendo las bolsas plásticas disminuiremos la dependencia del petróleo.

Finally, plastic bags are made of polietine: a termoplastic that comes from petrol.By reducing plastic bags we will make our dependance of petrol smaller.
