TETRALOGY OF FALLOT

WHAT IS TETRALOGY OF FALLOT

A congenital heart condition involving four abnormalities occurring together, including a defective septum between the ventricles and narrowing of the pulmonary artery, and accompanied by cyanosis.

WHAT CAUSES TETRALOGY OF FALLOT• Till don't know what causes tetralogy of Fallot.

• Some conditions or factors that occur during pregnancy may raise your risk of having a child who has tetralogy of Fallot. These conditions and factors include:

• German measles (rubella) and some other viral illnesses

• Poor nutrition

• Alcohol use

• Age (being older than 40)

• Diabetic

• CHILDREN WHO HAVE CERTAIN GENETIC DISORDERS, SUCH AS DOWN SYNDROME AND DIGEORGE SYNDROME, OFTEN HAVE CONGENITAL HEART DEFECTS, INCLUDING TETRALOGY OF FALLOT.

•Difficulty breathing•Bluish discoloration of the skin•Passing out or seizures•Weakness•Unusual irritability

SIGN AND SYMPTOMS• h coloration of the skin caused by blood low in oxygen (cyanosis)

• Shortness of breath and rapid breathing, especially during feeding or exercise

• Loss of consciousness (fainting)

• Clubbing of fingers and toes — an abnormal, rounded shape of the nail bed

• Poor weight gain

• Tiring easily during play or exercise

• Irritability

• Prolonged crying

• A heart murmur

MAIN SYMPTOMS IN BABY

• Difficulty breathing

• Bluish discolouration of the skin

• Weakness

• Unusual irritability

DIAGNOSIS

• Echocardiography

• Electrocardiogram

• Chest x-Ray

• Pulse oximetry

• Cardiac catheterisation

TREATMENT

• Complete Intracardiac Repair

• Temporary or Palliative Surgery

• Tet spells
