Minds rule, hearts matter.

“education must be

in service to a principle that is broader than education itself.”

As part of his Health Care in Society class, sociology professor Mike McQuaide takes his students to

London, where they can see firsthand a publicly provided health care system. In Social Problems, he takes

them to a maximum-security prison, and in Transitioning Societies, he takes them to a village in Ecuador.

By including authentic experience in his teaching, McQuaide is shaping informed students as well as future

doctors, social workers, and policy makers. At Emory, professors are inspiring passions, shaping thinkers,

discovering brilliance.
