As I was about to pay for ‘the desired one’, ‘the man’ discovered some small stains on the silk.
He said: “I cannot sell this to you (in Tamil). The silk is stained and selling a damaged sari will damage our reputation.”
I said: “Are you sure? It is the perfect colour I was looking for –soft Indian pink.”
He said: “Who are you giving it to?”
I said: “My mother-in-law.”
He said: “Then I definitely cannot sell it to you! Take this one instead.”
