SAFETEY MANAGER

My career is a safety Manager. The education you need is a certificate in occupational safety.

What is your career? What education did you need?

I chose my job because I was in the retail business for several years and I wanted a career change.

Why did you choose your job?

My goal when I first started my job as a safety manager was to insure that I am running a safe work environment for all employees.

What was your goal when you started this job?

To insure all training is up to date also to make also make sure equipment is properly inspected also Audits and week/ monthly expectations.

What is required of you to do your job?

My job can be stressful at times when there is a serious accident on site.

Is your job stressful? How?

It took a couple of years to get to my job as safety manager from a safety coordinator.

How long did it take to get your job?

My job involves all kinds of training, train the trainer fall protection, train the trainer power line hazard and confined space.

Does your job involve training? Where?

Yes my job offers premium health care witch covers everything.

Does your job offer health care? How much?

My job is safe because I have Lots of experience also I have lots of education in the field.

Is your job safe why or why not?

Being a safety manager was not the job I always wanted. The job I always wanted was to be a police officer because safety wasn’t big back when I started out.

Is this the job you always wanted? Why or why not?

I first took a job as a sails manager for a sails company. My boss encouraged me to get my safety citificit.

What influenced you to choose your career?

The skill set you to be need for this job is you need to be good at presenting to a group of people on site or elsewhere.

What skill set do you need to do your job and why?

Yes I would recommend this job to others. This job is rewarding , everyone goes to work and returns home safe to there family’s.

Would you recommend this job to others?

Yes, you can move from Safety Manager to a Director role. This position involves a higher designation in the Safety field and more people report to you.

Is there room for advancement in your position?

I have been in the safety business for 7 years.

How long have you been workng in current position?

My job includes travelling to and from Long Harbour and various construction sites in the city.

Does your job involve travelling?

My hours in my office are 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday and when I travel to Long Harbour my hours are from 4:00am to 6:00pm

What are your hours of work?

Yes, my job offers 3 weeks of vacation plus because its a Construction company they close for Christmas break which works out to be an extra 2 weeks vacation.

Does your job include extra holidays?

My work environment consists of indoors in an office and outdoors on the various construction sites

Describe your work environment.

Some benefits of my job are attending Safety conferences all across Canada. I also sit on the NLCSA board of directors which stands for Newfoundland & Labrador Construction Safety Association.
