strives to achieve excellence in Teaching and Research. Several issues about Interdisciplinary research as thwell as opportunities were discussed in 4 Nirma Institute of Pharmacy International Conference
(NIPICON)-2018. Organization of various events and guest lectures is an example of constant updation.
This time also students at Institute of Pharmacy received prizes in One act play. The major highlight in
the student performance includes Ms. Khushali Parekh receiving Prime Minister's Fellowship from
Department of Science and Technology, Mr. Harshil Shah receiving Khorana scholarship from DBT and
Mr. Vandit Shah receiving summer internship from Harvard Stem Cell Institute, Harvard University,
Cambridge, USA. I am sure the Institute will achieve greater heights in future.

Anti-Ragging Poster Competition
Industrial Visit
Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University celebrated its
Foundation Day on October 4, 2017. The day started with
inaugural function graced by the Chief Guest Shri Sirish G.
Belapure, Managing Director, Zydus Hospira Oncology Pvt.
Ltd. Prominent faculty members, Alumni members and
students were felicitated for their achievements. The events
included poetry competition, extempore competition and
debate competition Overall, it was an enjoyable experience
throughout the day which encouraged us for taking the
challenges in the upcoming time.
The anti-ragging poster competition was organized at the
Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University on October 13, 2017.
Around 85 students participated enthusiastically in the event
and the competition was judged by Ms. Sujan Umaraniya,
Assistant Professor, Institute of Architecture, Nirma
University and Dr. Shital Panchal, Assistant Professor,
Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University. The selected posters
were displayed on the notice board.
Educational Institute needs to cater diversified requirements
of the students. During graduation, students understand the
profession and thus teach varied subjects starting from basic
to advanced. In the technical field like Pharmacy, students
are taught theory as well as trained to perform various
practical. In addition to above all, students visited various
industries and institutes to understand the functioning of
the same. Visits to Nivea India Ltd, Sanand for B. Pharm
semester-VII students on November 18, 2017 and to B. V.
Patel PERD Center, Ahmedabad for M Pharm semester –I
students on November 28, 2017 were organized.
Good habits can be imbibed during childhood. However, it’s
very sad that many children do not get environment to grow
and understand the difference between what is good and
what is not. Hence, social extension activity is part of
curriculum and our students of B. Pharm semester V visited
Primary school in Jamyatpura village for creating awareness
amongst school children about following:-
• Anti-Tobacco Drive to create awareness about bad effect
of tobacco on health on November 10, 2017.
• Awareness program on Emergency and First Aid was
conducted on November 17, 2017.
• Awareness program on skin care in winters was
conducted and cold cream was distributed among the
students on November 24, 2017.

National Pharmacy Week Celebration
Workshop on “Application of Analytical
Techniques for Herbal Drugs Research”
Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University celebrated Gujarat
State Pharmacy Council (GSPC) sponsored National
Pharmacy Week from December 18-22, 2017. The event was
inaugurated by Dr. Jolly Parikh, Professor and Head,
Department of Pharmaceutics, A.R. College of Pharmacy,
Vallabh Vidyanagar and Nominee, GSPC on December 18,
2017. She highlighted various means of creating awareness
of pharmacy profession and role of pharmacist in healthcare
system in her address. Shri MontuKumar Patel, President,
GSPC informed the activities carried out by GSPC for
creating public awareness in relation to pharmacy
professionThe National Pharmacy week celebration included
events like Extempore, Elocution, Expert lecture, Health
check-up and awareness camp. On the last day of the event,
expert lecture by Dr. D. D. Santani, Former Director, ISF
College of Pharmacy, Moga, Punjab was organized where he
informed about the role of pharmacist and opportunities
ahead. The expert lecture was followed by Prize distribution
for Elocution and Extempore competition and feedback by
the students. The students found the program informative
and interesting. Overall, the program was successfully
conducted meeting the aspirations of the budding
pharmacists.
Department of Pharmacognosy, Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma
University organized one day workshop on “Application of
Analytical Techniques for Herbal Drugs Research” on January
6, 2018. Dr. Subrata De, Consultant, Zoetic Ayurvedics Pvt.
Ltd was the chief guest and one of the speakers for the
workshop. He delivered his talk on “Overview on
Applications of Analytical Instruments in Natural Product
Research”. Dr. Rina Gokani, Director & CSO, Accuprec
Research Labs Pvt. Ltd., delivered a talk on the topic “Recent
Advancement in Quality Control of Herbal Medicines”. There
were total 44 students and faculty members who
participated in the workshop from various institutions.
During the workshop participants got the exposure of
various sophisticated instruments like GC, HPLC, HPTLC, FT-
IR and Spectro-flourimetry.
Three days International Conference (NIPiCON –2018) was
organized by Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University,
Ahmedabad, on the theme of “Innovation in Pharmaceutical
Research by Interdisciplinary Approach” during January 23-
25, 2018. Dr. Dan Miller (VP, Excorp Pvt Ltd, Singapore) was
the Chief Guest for the inaugural function and Dr. Anamik
Shah (Vice Chancellor, Gujarat Vidyapith) was the Guest of
Honour. International eminent speakers like Dr. Eric
Kupferberg, Dr. Nikolaos Kostopoluos, Prof. Sunil Jambhekar,
Dr. Balvantsinh Chauhan, Dr. Maya Nair, Dr. Neelima
Chauhan and Dr. Manoj Mishra delivered talk related to the
theme of NIPiCON 2018. Nationally reputed speakers from
the fields of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Ayurvedic science,
Biological Science etc. shared their knowledge and discussed
avenues of interdisciplinary approaches in Pharmaceutical
research. More than 400 delegates from all over India and
from various fields attended the conference and presented
their research work in poster session during three days. Dr.
Eric Kufenberg (Director, Cambridge Graduate University
USA) was the Chief Guest and Prof. Sunil Jambhekar
(Associate Dean, LECOM School of Pharmacy, Bradenton,
Florida, USA) was the guest of honour of Valedictory
function. The prizes for best posters were presented during
valedictory function. This conference has served as a
platform for sharing of knowledge and ideas in
complementing research areas of Pharmaceutical Sciences
which will encourage young researchers to take up newer
challenges using multidisciplinary approach.

IPNUAA meet
Personality Development Sessions
The annual Alumni meet of IPNUAA (Institute of Pharmacy
Nirma University Alumni Association) was organized on
January 26, 2018. More than 90 alumni members joined for
the annual meet. Prof. Manjunath Ghate welcomed all the
Alumni Members and shared the updates of Institute. Dr.
Sunil Jambhekar and Dr. Eric Kupferberg from USA graced
the occasion by their words of wisdom. Alumni members
enjoyed various fun activities arranged by B. Pharm
Students. Few Alumni members shared their feedbacks,
views and achievements. Dr. Dhaivat Parikh shared the
updates about IPNUAA activities and opportunities of
alumni networking. The annual meet ended with delicious
lunch.
Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University organized series of
sessions on personality and life skills development for
students of 2nd, 3rd and 4th year B. Pharm during January
12-20, 2018. As a part of this series, Mr. Farhat Umar, Chief
Human Resources Officer at Aerolam Insulations Pvt. Ltd.
and Founder of Credo HR solutions interacted with 4th year
students on 'Campus to Corporate’. He also motivated the
2nd year students talking on ‘Effectiveness and Goal setting’.
Mr. Suresh Mashruwala, Professional Commentator and
Trainer, interacted with 3rd and 4th year students on “Public
Speaking and Effective Communication’. Further, Dr. Debjani
Dass, Faculty at B.K. School of Business Management, gave
talk on time management to 2nd year students. Also, Dr.
Nina Muncherjee, Professor, Institute of Management, Nirma
University interacted with 3rd year students on the various
aspects of ‘Team Building’. The students were able to
develop their soft skills and learnt a lot about its importance
in development of their future career.
Institute of Pharmacy, Nirma University organized Refresher
Course for Registered Pharmacist during February 3-4, 2017.
It was attended by more than 180 registered pharmacists
from all over Gujarat. Speakers from industries as well
academics delivered expert talks entitled “Medication
Errors”, “Pharmacovigilance and Adverse Drug Reactions”,
“Clinical Research”, “Patient Counselling on Anti-Tubercular
Drugs”, “Patient Counselling on Anti-Asthmatic”, “Rational
Drug Use” and “Patient Compliance” during the program. It
was highly appreciated by all the participants and turned out
to be a great success.
A workshop on the "Computer Aided Drug Design Software"
was conducted by the Department of Pharmaceutical
Chemistry, Institute of Pharmacy under Center of Continuing
Education, Nirma University on February 17, 2018. The main
objective of the workshop was to provide conceptual insight
as well as demonstration of important software used for
computer aided drug design (CADD). The sessions were
conducted by internal faculties while software
demonstration and hands on training on some CADD tools
were given by research scholars. The workshop received very
good response and total 48 participants attended the
workshop.
