EXPRESSING AGREEMENT in AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES

SO +POSITIVE VERB +SUBJECT

Examples: to BE

Peter is from Smolyan. Ivan is from Smolyan, too

- So is Ivan. (И Иван също) The red books are new. The blue books are new,

too.

- So are the blue books. (И сините книги също) Maria is in the classroom. I am in the classroom,

too.

- So am I. (И аз също.)

Examples: present continuous

Maria is reading a book. Ivan is reading a book, too.

- So is Ivan. (И Иван също.) I am studying now. My friends are studying, too.

- So are my friends. (И моите приятели също)

Examples: CAN

Maria can swim. I can swim, too

- So can I. We can dance well. They can dance well, too

- So can they.

Examples: Have/Has Got

Maria has got an English textbook. I have got an English textbook, too.

- So have I. We have got a lot of friends. He has got a lot of

friends, too.

- So has he.

Examples: MUST

Negative sentence + EITHER

NEITHER/NOR positive verb SUBJECT

Examples with To BE

Mary isn't Bulgarian. David isn't Bulgarian EITHER. NEITHER is DAVID.

Examples: present continuous

I am not writing now. Peter isn't writing EITHER.

- NEITHER is PETER. They aren't working now. We aren't working EITHER.

- NEITHER are WE.

Examples: CAN

She can't swim. I can't swim EITHER. NEITHER can I.

Examples: MUST
