Musicleonard bernstein (1918-1990): “chichester psalms“ (third movement)

Lord, Lord,My heart is not haughty,Nor mine eyes lofty,Neither do I exercise myselfIn great matters or in thingsToo wonderful for me to understand.Surely I have calmedAnd quieted myself,As a child that is weaned of his mother,My soul is even as a weaned child.Let Israel hope in the LordFrom henceforth and forever.

Intercessions“Kyrie eleison“

Choir sings during wreath layingcanticle “nunc dimittis“ sung in church slavonic

Now, Lord, you let your servant go in peace:Your word has been fulfilled. My own eyes have seen the salvationWhich you have prepared in the sight of every people;A light to reveal you to the nationsAnd the glory of your people Israel.(Luke 2:29–32)

Lord’s PrayerWe are praying togetherCollect

Final remarksheinz W. engl, rector of the University of Vienna

Song of thanksgivingNow thank we all our God, with heart and hands and voices,Who wondrous things has done, in Whom this world rejoices;Who from our mothers’ arms has blessed us on our wayWith countless gifts of love, and still is ours today. O may this bounteous God through all our life be near us,With ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us;And keep us in His grace, and guide us when perplexed; And free us from all ills, in this world and the next.

All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given; The Son and Him Who reigns with Them in highest Heaven; The one eternal God, whom earth and Heaven adore; For thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.

BlessingArchbishop christoph cardinal schönborn

Recessional (organ)franz schmidt (1874-1939): prelude in D major (“halleluja“)

Processional Anton bruckner (1824-1896): “perger präludium“ prelude for organleonard bernstein (1918-1990): “chichester psalms“ (first movement)

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord all ye lands.Serve the Lord with gladness.Come before his presence with singing.Know ye that the Lord, He is God.It is He that hath made us, and not we ourselvesWe are His people and the sheep of His pasture.Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,And into His courts with praise.Be thankful unto Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good, His mercy is everlasting. And His truth endureth to all generations.

Welcoming and OpeningArchbishop christoph cardinal schönborn

Hymn Ancient christian hymn “phos hilarón“ sung in church slavonic

O Joyful Light of the holy glory of the immortal, heavenly, holy blessed Father, O Jesus Christ.Having come to the setting of the sun, having beheld the evening light, we hymn the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, God.Meet it is at all times to hymn Thee with reverend voices, O Son of God, Giver of Life, wherefore the whole world doth glorify Thee.

Reading from Scripture Acts 17:16-34 (Apostle paul’s Areopagus sermon)christa schnabl, Vice-rector of the University of Vienna

Musicleonard bernstein (1918-1990): “chichester psalms“ (second movement)

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.He maketh me to lie down in green pastures,He leadeth me beside the still waters,He restoreth my soul,He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness,For His name’s sake.Yea, though I walkThrough the valley of the shadow of death,I will fear no evil,For Thou art with me.Thy rod and Thy staffThey comfort me.Why do the nations rage,And the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves,And the rulers take counsel togetherAgainst the Lord and against His anointed.Saying, let us break their bands asunder,And cast away their cords from us.He that sitteth in the heavensShall laugh, and the LordShall have them in derision!

Thou preparest a table before meIn the presence of mine enemies,Thou annointest my head with oil,My cup runneth over.Surely goodness and mercyShall follow me all the days of my life,And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.

SermonMichael bünker, bishop of the protestant church A. b. in Austria
