Patient Parenting: Overcoming Anger in Your Home

theapollosproject.com

Anger is your friend and foe.

Anger usually comes from a blocked goal or desire.

Foundational Issues

Anger as a Foe

Sinful anger is in the family tree of murder and serious. (Matt 5:21-22)

Sinful anger needs to be recognized.

Sinful anger is not pleasing to God and will not fix the problem. (Eph 4:30, James 1:20)

Sinful anger can and must be controlled.

Sinful anger that spills out as sin must be repented of and restitution made.

Anger as a Foe

Anger can be used to indicate a problem.

Anger should motivate us to attack the problem not the person.

Anger, as our friend, should motivate us to come up with a plan.

Suggestions

1. Record the event. What was the stimulus? 2. What did I say or do? 3. What was I desiring? Is this a sinful desire or a good

desire that became a demand? 4. What does God say about my reactions? 5. What godly responses should I have had in the

moment? How should I have loved, thought, acted? 6. What godly desires should rule me next time? 7. What structural changes should I make? 8. What verses will I use to renew my mind?
