Charity Dinner Charity Dinner
DanceDance On Tuesday 2 October the BSO held it’s very first Charity Dinner Dance at the Wellington Park Hotel in aid of the NI Hospice.
The night was hosted by Stephen Clements from Citybeat and included entertainment provided by the McGowan Dance Academy.
It was a night filled with plenty of fun for all, with raffle prizes and dancing. The night also raised a fantastic £2,840 for a great cause!
Next year will see us planning another great night and raising more money for charity.

Oh What a Night!!!Oh What a Night!!! The first ever BSO Charity Dinner Dance, in aid of the NI Hospice, was held on Thursday 2nd
October at the Wellington Park Hotel.
Stephen Clements from Citybeat (above, left) was our host for the night, and what wonderful job he
did keeping the guests laughing. David Bingham welcomed everybody and thanked those involved
in organising the event and all of the businesses who very kindly donated raffle prizes. Ellen Hillen,
from NI Hospice, spoke about the work of the Hospice, and how events like this provide valuable
resources to the NI Hospice for those most in need.
To start the night’s entertainment, we had dancers from the McGowan Dance Academy (above,
right) who put on an excellent performance, providing both traditional and modern Irish dancing.
Following a wonderful meal, The Bizz commenced playing with no-one needing any encouragement
to get up and dance the night away.

The most important thing about the Charity Dinner Dance was that we were able to have a great night
out knowing, at the same time, we were raising money for a very worthwhile charity. We are pleased
to say we have raised £2,840, with just over £1,000 being raised on the night from the raffle alone -
not bad for our first event!!
A great night’s craic and entertainment was had by all - the photos below speak for themselves.
Now the planning starts for next year’s dinner dance- a Friday night this time in October 2015. Details
will follow soon, so there should be no excuse as you can start saving now and you don’t need to book
the next day off work.

Senior Staff Planning Workshop 2014 Senior Staff Planning Workshop 2014
The annual Senior Staff Planning Workshop took place this year in Mossley Mill, Newtownabbey. The
Workshop was attended by senior managers from across the organisation and was facilitated by Dr Adrian
Gundy (pictured below left), a consultant from the Centre for Competitiveness (CforC). CforC is a not-for-
profit organisation, dedicated to improving the competitiveness of Northern Ireland at both the regional
level and the level of organisations in the private, public and voluntary sectors. BSO is a member of the
CforC network.
The day began with presentations from three key speakers. Glenn Houston (bottom right), Chief
Executive of the Regulation, Quality and Improvement Authority (RQIA) commenced with an insightful
overview of the Health and Social Care environment from the point of view of a BSO customer. The
second speaker was a representative from another customer-facing public sector organisation, Alec
McQuillan (top right), Acting Director of Customer Service Delivery, NI Water. Alec described the
transformation journey of NI Water, particularly the improvements made since the ‘perfect storm’ freeze/
thaw conditions of Christmas 2010. The third speaker was Peter Toogood (bottom left), who outlined the
view from the DHSSPS, particularly with regard to the financial challenges ahead.
Dr Gundy facilitated the remainder of the day to assist senior staff in reviewing the BSO Corporate
Objectives and Values and pave the way forward for the development of a revised Corporate Strategy for
2015-18, which was summarised by Karen Bailey at the end of the session. Staff also began work on
agreeing key actions to inform the draft BSO Annual Business Plan 2015-16. Further guidance on this will
be issued shortly from Customer Care and Performance.

Innovation Award
The Knowledge Exchange considers all HSC staff, wider
organisations, departments and individuals delivering health
and social care across Northern Ireland as its customers. The
website provides a knowledge repository to help staff grow,
develop and share knowledge. It provides space (online, in
phone and in person) for staff to meet, discuss, debate and
tackle emerging and current trends in health and social care.

Team Award
During the challenging times following the
implementation of the new Finance,
Procurement and Logistics (FPL) system,
all PaLS staff demonstrated considerable
commitment to minimising the impact on
customers and contributing to a resolution
of the problems being encountered, often
in very challenging circumstances. The
result of their efforts enabled a continued
supply of goods and services to all HSC
organisations in Northern Ireland.
