Native Plants of the Slopes and Mountains of the New South Wales Eastern Murray Catchment This brochure has been prepared to aid identification of a selection of native plants from the slopes and mountains in the Eastern Murray Catchment of NSW (see map at back). The photos may assist in identifying some of the more common groundlayer herbs, shrubs and trees. The colour coded vegetation communities distribution map will help you with your identification. Photos show plants in flower and colours may vary depending on location. Photos are not to scale.
This brochure provides a good starting point, but many species can look similar. Please see the references and websites listed in this brochure for accurate species identification.
How Can I Help?
To help conserve places where native plants persist, please:
• Join a local Field Naturalists, Environment, Friends, or Landcare group
• Ask your Shire to include any diverse native areas you know of in their roadside conservation plan
If you own or manage land:
• Minimise earthworks in areas with native vegetation
• Minimise application of herbicides and fertiliser in areas with native vegetation
• Identify and control weed species
• Control rabbits
• Sustainably graze areas to allow plants to flower, set seed and regenerate
• Contact Murray CMA to talk about managing and enhancing native vegetation
