Xerox PARC, 1996http://sandbox.xerox.com/ubicomp

some experience types

Visit:

...“on the way to the museum”

...“engaging with the objects”

Non-visit:

Also - engaging with the objects!

gaming

..but how do you actually “do” it...?

1. Adapt your existing site, or part of it

2. Have a distinct and separate mobile site

(example: powerhouse museum)

3. Build an App

Brooklyn...

National Gallery

http://bit.ly/9vVYJP

= £1.79From MW paper, roughly:> avg 17,600 downloads per week when free

> avg 1,360 downloads per week when paid

> Estimated revenue: £44,350 (after Apple)

Gaming...

3b. Build an app (without building an app)

Build apps with existing skills:

- Titanium Appcelerator

- PhoneGap

- Adobe CS5

- Next generation of Adobe AIR ?

4. Build a mobile web app

nextstop.com

5. Don’t forget….

is there a final thought?

making use of capability

..but balancing with ubiquity

SMS: 100%Browser (including WAP): 95%MMS: 80%Camera: 73%Modern browser: 71%Bluetooth: 64%WIFI: 19%

revisiting location

thing

person

radius ofopportunity

radius ofinterest

augmented reality

http://bit.ly/c0N098

location doesn’t require location capability!

all of these things are incoming for location

• more devices with GPS

• more common use of QR and other codes

• RFID (in-built to devices)

• More accuracy

• Someone, at some point, will crack internal waypointing...
