• Symbols are people, places, events, or things that stand for ideas larger than themselves.

Colors as symbols

• Red is the color of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love.

• Orange is a mixture of red and yellow. It is associated with joy and sunshine. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.

Colors as symbols

• Yellow is the color of sunshine. It often represents joy, happiness, intellect, and energy.

• Green is the color of nature. It symbolizes growth, harmony, freshness, and fertility. Green has strong emotional correspondence with safety. However, dark green is also associated with money and greed.

• An allegory is a story that is both literal and symbolic. The plot is literal, but the events have an underlying meaning. . The characters and events represent abstract ideas or states of being, things like love or freedom, evil or goodness, hell or heaven.

• On the surface, an allegory must hold our attention. The characters must seem believable so that we will identify with them. But the symbolic meaning or allegory must be something that the reader can perceive.
