When to use infinitive/-ing form

• When verbs are followed by the -ing form, they tend to refer to a GENERAL activity. BUT

• When these verbs are followed by the infinitive, they tend to refer to PARTICULAR occasions.

Ex: Which sport do you like? * I like swimming. (In general) * I like to swim in the mornings. (Particular situation)

You can use a noun, a pronoun or a verb (w/o +ing.)

Full Forms Negative

Don’t = do not

Doesn’t = does not

I don’t like swimming.I do not like swimming.She doesn’t like swimming.She does not like swimming.

Short responses

Yes, I/you/we/they do. / No, I/you/we/they don’t.Yes, he/she does. / No, he/she doesn’t.

Do we listen? Yes, we do. OR No, we don’t.Does he listen? Yes, he does. OR No, he doesn’t.
