Electing your Class representatives

At West Thames College class reps play an important role in shaping our provision.

We call it a ‘learner voice’

Learner voice at your school:

Evaluations Learner Surveys Class reps attend up to 3 Course meetings Class Reps attend student parliament Class Reps may be invited to focus groups Student union Students are involved in staff recruitment

Learner voice at West Thames College:

Attend the training Attend up to three departmental meetings Attend two student parliament meetings Attend an occasional focus meeting Represent your group in those meeting

Responsibilities of a class rep:

Are you a positive role model?

Can you inspire others to follow your direction towards a common goal?

Can you represent other’s opinions impartially?

Are you a leader?

What are these leaders famous for?

What did they do for their countries (e.g. freedom fighters, presidents, religious leaders)?

What qualities did they have as famous world leaders (e.g. communications skills, patience etc)?

World famous leaders

Develop your leadership skills

Get recognition – certificates are issued for participation and positive contribution

Strengthen your CV and UCAS application

Benefits of being a class rep at WTC:

In groups discuss what skills and qualities you would like your class rep to have, e.g. patience, good listening skills etc.

Who do you want to be your Class Rep?

After you have heard all the candidates speeches you will need to nominate 2 candidates to be your class reps.

write 2 names on a piece of paper place your nominations in a ballot box

Key dates 2014-2015 Course reps training 22/25/26 September

1st Student Parliament W/B 28 September

SU executive Nominations open: Wednesday 1 October

Nominations close; Friday 10 October

Campaigning starts: Monday 13 October

Campaigning finishes: Friday 24 October

Half term 27 October -31 October

Voting opens Monday 3 Nov October

Voting closes: Friday 7 November

SU training 14 November

2nd Student Parliament 2 W/B 9 December
