LORILearning Object Review

Learning Objects are small, self-contained and reusable units of learning

LORI is a standard for evaluating the quality of Learning Objects

LORI may be used for either individual or group reviews

With LORI 1.5 the reviewers can rate and comment with respect to 9 items

LORI Learning Object Review Instrument

For each of the 9 items, quality is evaluated on a rating scale consisting of 5 levels

How are objects rated? LORI

If the item is judged not relevant to the learning object, or if the reviewer does not feel qualified to judge that criterion, then the reviewer may leave it blank

1. Content QualityVeracity, accuracy, balanced presentation of ideas, and appropriate level of detail

2. Learning Goal Alignment Alignment among learning goals, activities, assessments, and learner characteristics

3. Feedback and Adaptation Adaptive content or feedback driven by differential learner input or learner modeling

Items LORI

4. Motivation Ability to motivate and interest an identified population of learners

5. Presentation Design Design of visual and auditory information for enhanced learning and efficient mental processing

6. Interaction Usability Ease of navigation, predictability of the user interface, and quality of the interface help features

Items LORI

7. Accessibility Design of controls and presentation formats to accommodate disabled and mobile learners

8. ReusabilityAbility to use in varying learning contexts and with learners from differing backgrounds

9. Standards ComplianceAdherence to international standards and specifications

Include examples for each item

Read it carefully before evaluating

LORI User Manual

Some of the LORI items are conditioned by the authoring tool (ViSH Editor)

7. Accessibility All Learning Objects (i.e. Virtual Excursions) are accessible via portable devices, and all of them use HTML5 (and W3C) compliant elements.

8. ReusabilityAll Virtual Excursions can be modified using the authoring tool to be used in different learning contexts. However, not all of them have the same reusability potential.

Considerations in the ViSH scenario

9. Standards ComplianceAll Virtual Excursions can be exported to SCORM. However, not all of them have the same metadata filled.

Anyway, considering that some of the metadata is inferred, and other metadata values are mandatory, according to the LORI specification, a Virtual Excursion shouldn't be rated in this item with a score lower than 4 under any circumstances.

Considerations in the ViSH scenario

Learning Object Evaluation Platform LOEP

1. Enter and register in the LOEP platformhttp://loep.global.dit.upm.es -> Include in your “Areas of Interest” the topics (competition categories) that you prefer to review

2. Download the LORI user manual available on LOEP and read it

3. Wait for the Learning Objects assignment

4. Reject assignments (if any of them is not appropriate)

5. Evaluate the Virtual Excursions using the online survey on the LOEP platform
