AuSkills is a joint initiative of VETnetwork Australia and WorldSkills Australia (WSA) and it involves the development of a number of events, professional learning sessions and the distribution of some key marketing materials that target Australian Apprenticeship Advisors who work directly with schools leavers interested in an Australian Apprenticeship.

AuSkills has been funded by the Australian Government Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education through the Australian Apprenticeships Mentoring Package.

The program will encompass all states and territories across Australia with planned activities outlined below:

a) at least one major event in each state and territory for potential Australian Apprenticeship Advisers - the event will be structured and will involve the use of existing Australian Apprentices who can highlight the benefits of an Australian Apprenticeship. These events will also be open to young people who are considering an Australian Apprenticeship.

b) at least two smaller rural and remote events in each state and territory for potential Australian Apprenticeship Advisors - again this session will involve the use of existing Australian Apprentices who can highlight the benefits of an Australian Apprenticeship.

The program will encompass all states and territories across Australia with planned activities outlined below:

c) During National Skills Week 2013 (TBC), a key event for Industry and Business will be organised. The event will be a one off event with involvement from highly skilled Apprenticeship Advisers - one from each state and territory will be engaged to present at this event.

d) A smart phone 'ap' will be developed that will provide up to date information for Apprenticeship Advisors. The intent of the app relates to portability, currency and accuracy - information can be accessed immediately and is available 24 hours a day.

Each session may involve additional features, such as the development or use of aptitude and attitudinal testing, job matching support, or support or resources for new employers to better equip them to support an apprentice who is making the transition from school to work.

These will vary according to the need in each state and territory.
