What is this tutorial about?

This tutorial is about how to use a photography web 2.0 application on the internet and on any smart phone.

It is considered web 2.0 because there is no cost, users are able to communicate through comments back and forth as if they were talking face to face, and because users are able to “tag” other users in photos so that more than one person is involved.

Step 1

In the App Store,

download the

Instagram app.

Step 2

Wait for the app to

download. Then

click open.

Step 3 Then after this create a

username and password. You have the option to “invite” Facebook friends. You must type in a valid email and your name in the provided slots. Then click done. You may also add a picture by clicking the edit button under the word account.

Step 4

Click yes if it is

correct.

Step 5

You can also find

friends from your

contacts.

Step 6

How to follow people:

You can click on the star icon to

search people/users or hashtags.

Once you find a user click on

their name and go to their profile

and click follow. The icon with

turn green and say following.

Step 7

To add a picture to your feed. Click on

the camera Icon. Add a picture from

your photos. Choose a filter that you like.

Next you can tag people in the photo so

there will be more than one person

involved in the photo. Click done and

the photo will appear on your feed.

Step 8

You can comment

on a picture back

and forth to

communicate with

people in real time.

Step 9

To reopen and

perform the tasks

above, just click on

the Instagram app

on your home

screen!

How can it be used in

Education?

This can be used to

take pictures of

whatever you are

going over in class

and comment

back and forth

talking about it.

You could also do

a picture

scavenger hunt

exercise. Have the

students find

pictures of certain

things and post

them to a class

Instagram feed.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

This is a simple

social networking

site, so it is easy to

use and little room

for confusion.

Cons:

Because this is simple, it is hard to have many different assignments and it might not be able to work with all lesson plans or subjects.
